Botes, who was part of the initial Namibian 25-man squad that was announced a few weeks ago, picked up an injury against Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium last week.
“I am very disappointed at missing the match tomorrow,” he says. “I was eagerly looking forward to playing.”
Botes was looking forward to help his team settle old scores, as Bafana beat Namibia 1-0 in 2006.
“Then when we played Bafana in Namibia, we lost because of a goalkeeping blunder – and I was hoping I would be able to help my team revenge that loss.
“Tomorrow’s match is also very important as it is part of the 100 days celebration, and as I am based in South Africa it would have been good to be part of the Namibian side.”
Botes has been a vital cog in Platinum Stars’ side this season, and has scored some crucial goals. He says he will be supporting Namibia on the day.
“I will definitely be supporting my team from home, and though I say ‘may the best team win on the day’, you know who I want to win.”
