Pressure is mounting on the Professional League Board of the Ghana Football Association to take action against Sekondi Eleven Wise goalkeeper Theophilus Jackson and match referee Charles Nii Tagoe from Berekum after the official failed to send off the goalkeeper following an unsavoury punching incident last Sunday.
Jackson threw punches at Samuel Affum at a rate Floyd Mayweather would have been proud off following suspicion that the Hearts striker had planted juju in the Wise goalpost before the start of the second half of the Premier League game which Hearts won 3-2.
The goalkeeper caught Affum in the face twice in the full view of television audience after he had scramble off the alleged object off his goalline. Shockingly the referee chose to book Affum, while Jackson escaped without even a caution.
That has enraged many in Ghana football and the voices demanding a stiffer ban for the player and match official are rising.
Football coach Nana Agyemang, who also commentated on the game, feels the players and match officials let down the nation.
"The scenes were disgraceful" he said. "It is shocking to me that the referee takes no action when the goalkeeper has clearly punched the player. The match official must be sanctioned for failing to apply the rules properly and the players sanctioned for bring the game into disrepute."
The Professional League Board are likely to act only after the report from the match officials and independent observers at the game.
The goalkeeper involved this morning apologised on Peace FM for his horrible actions before blaming Affum for starting the whole incident by planting what Wise suspect was juju in their post.
