Though there is a myriad of Zimbabweans based in South Africa, head coach Sunday Chidzambwa has decided to ignore all of them except for Musona as he prepares for the CHAN qualifiers.
The teenage sensation was already on his way to the airport on Tuesday morning to board a flight to Harare when KickOff.com got in touch with him. He will be returning on Thursday ahead of Chiefs’ season-ending tie against Free State Stars.
Musona, who has been impressive in his first season at Chiefs, made his senior international debut against South Africa in January and will add his second cap tomorrow.
Also included in the Warriors’ squad is inspirational skipper Benjani Mwaruwari, who plies his trade at English Premier League club Sunderland.
The only other foreign-based player called up is Ovidy Karuru, who is at French club US Boulogne.
Exciting Ajax Cape Town target Tafadzwa ‘Fire’ Rusike has been included along with stylish former Witbank Spurs midfielder Ali Sadiki.
Zimbabwe will be using the friendly match against Malawi as part of the preparations for the CHAN qualifiers and the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Warriors will play Swaziland over two legs in the CHAN qualifiers starting off on March 13 away in Mbabane.
