Eagles friendly rescheduled?

Nigeria's friendly against Paraguay may be played at The Valley, home ground of Charlton Athletic, but a day earlier than originally scheduled, at the request of The FA.

England play Egypt at Wembley on March 3, and NFF officials told KickOffNigeria.com that The Football Association do not want other games detracting from the Three Lions game.

Already one other friendly scheduled for London has had to be moved to an earlier kickoff, the game between Ivory Coast and Korea Republic.

The Nigeria game is thus expected to be played on March 2.

Must the friendly be in London? Your players will have less than 24hrs to prepare for this game becos of the England friendly??!! I don't understand why we should subject ourselves to such insult, this is what you get for having inept officials running your football

Ubaka: 2010-02-17 08:16

Hiddink takes Turkey reins

Guus Hiddink has signed a two-year contract to take charge of Turkey, starting on 1 August, the country's football federation has confirmed

The Russia boss, who last week announced he will leave his current post in the summer, will steer Turkey through the UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers and there is the option to extend the deal for a further two years when it runs out after the finals. Turkey are in Group A, along with Germany, Austria, Belgium, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

A statement on the federation website read: "Dutch coach Guus Hiddink has accepted to take charge of Turkey until August 2012 after announcing he won't extend his contract with the Football Union of Russia which was due to expire on 30 June.

"Turkish Football Federation (TFF) president Mahmut Ozgener and TFF vice-president Lutfi Aribogan flew to Amsterdam to finalise the negotiations with Hiddink. The 63-year-old experienced coach agreed to a two-year contract with an option for a further two years."

The federation also confirmed that Hiddink's coaching staff would consist of former Turkey captain Oguz Cetin and an unnamed Dutchman as well as former Turkey goalkeeper Engin Ipekoglu. Hiddink had been linked with a number of club and national team jobs in recent months, with his time as Russia coach seemingly drawing to a close.

The former Australia boss took charge of the Russian team in 2006 and steered them to the UEFA EURO 2008 semi-finals, having beaten England to a place in the tournament, but Russia then failed to qualify for this summer's FIFA World Cup.

Hiddink, who won six Eredivisie titles as PSV Eindhoven coach, also led Holland to the FIFA World Cup semi-finals in 1998 and South Korea to the same stage four years later, as well as lifting the FA Cup with Chelsea during a six-month spell in charge last season.

I guess thats the end of hiddink and nigeria then!.

Besides @ ody do you know anything about football? how would you ask what we stand to gain from the match against Paraguay, first off they qualified for the world cup and ahead of Argentina. they qualified one point shy of eventual marathon winners Brazil. Given we play Argentina in our first match in the world cup, we stand a lot to gain. Dont criticize anyhow.

@ Birikiti... nff prefers to play the game in london in order to make more money from tickets sold 'cos of the value of the pound!!

What does it take Ogunjobi and his kangaroo committee to appoint a TA! Did Turkey make noise before appointed Guus hiddink? No they knew he had the pedigree and went for him. Did England make noise in appointing Capello? No, they identified their top candidate and negotiated with him. When Amodu famously lost the CAF champions league with 3Sc Ogunjobi it was who said we lost from the bench. How come he fostered Amodu on 150million Nigerians. This man and his cohorts are a law unto themselves. Just like Amodu you will leave the centre stage by August. Shame on you!

We cannot defeat paraguay. Even Bangladesh National football team will defeat our super eagles, if Lulu continue to impose Amodu on us and continue to delay concerning recruiting a new coach.
