Arrows let Chiefs off the hook

Posted: 9 February 2010 Time: 21:46

By not taking their chances Golden Arrows have allowed Kaizer Chiefs to leave Durban with a point.

The Golden Arrows camp will feel rather aggrieved at being held to a goalless draw at the Moses Mabhida Stadium tonight, especially after wasting numerous chances in the second half.

The point severely dents Arrows chances of making the MTN8, the competition that they won earlier this season.

For Chiefs, the result effectively ends their chances of bagging the league title. They now have 44 points with three matches left to play and it would take a miracle for them to claim the title from this position – especially considering SuperSport United won their match tonight.

After a dour opening 20 minutes of play in the first half, Arrows Njabulo Manqana rifled in a powerful low drive which Chiefs keeper Arthur Bartman grabbed at the second attempt. Seconds later, Knowledge Musona skipped clear from Arrows defence when he collected a poor Thanduyise Khuboni defensive clearance, but Arrows keeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo came off his line quickly to deny the Zimbabwean striker.

Arrows midfielder Lindokhule Bengu broke down the right flank and sent in a low cross into the Chiefs danger area but Ntlantla Zothwane miscued his strike.

Chiefs' striker Musona rattled the Arrows upright a few minutes before the interval with a well struck shot.

Arrows should have had a handsome advantage had Thokozani Mshengu not been wasteful with the three clear-cut opportunities that came his way in the space of five minutes, minutes after the break.

Midfielder Zothwane tested the reflexes of Bartman in the 58th when he got onto the end of a threaded ball from Mzivukile Tom, but the keeper did enough to avert the danger.

Chiefs only effort on target in the second half came when Musonda made good contact with a strike from 20 metres out that required Khuzwayo to tip over his crossbar. Siyabonga Sangweni got a decisive touch when Abia Nale was bearing down on the Arrows goals in the 75th minute.

Richard Henyekane failed to make contact with a header when he had the Chiefs goals at his mercy a minute later, Thamsanqa Gabuza picked him out with an accurate cross.

The last chance of the match fell to Zothwane with four minutes remaining. Joseph Musonda launched a long throw which Gabuza flicked into the path of the midfielder.

Result between Arrows and Chimps was immeterial in the greater scheme of things. In the meantime, i think SSU are doing exceptional, if Downs fail to collect maximum points in our next 2 matches, then the league is as good as gone!

I think it is now time Chiefs coach leave the team, I am sorry to say this. We are tired of being humiliated by average teams. Day in day out we win, we draw, we loose. To me the coash seem to be clueless. I know some players are not playing well but they are playing on coach instructions. They are following his instructions. As for the young stars playing, I defer with that. How can you leave Dladla, Simphiwe, Torrielba on the bench. What do you expect? If we are to use young stars we will lose day in day out. Chiefs is not a national who can use young stars from different development structures. I am very disappointed about the recent Chiefs results. To me Chiefs standard of play has declined. I beg the management to do something about it. If we are to use the young stars then we must promote Doctor to be senior coach, the young stars will understand him better that VV. It is time VV makes way for someone capable. We won nothing this season, street cups that we wont mean nothing to me as a supporter. I love Chiefs to bits and would love to see them winning.

Khosi for life.

Golden Arrows has no one else but themselves to blame for their misfortunes in the football feild. I mean Chiefs was not there at all, I think they were attending the same Spa Pirates Players are going to.I mean I could understand mistakes being done by youngsters but for the so called senior players to mess up on the basics haai no. Chiefs Backline was wide open yesterday and Mshengu should scored a hatric but he was foolish and as a coach after substituting him I would tell him to get out of sight and come back once he is of be a proffessional. My One problem is that do these Players that play for Chiefs and Pirates understand what it means to put on those respective jersey?NO! I dont think so. They join these teams for recognition and dont play with passion.I mean as fans we busy arguing against ourselves on whos the best but both our Soweto Teams are performing dismally. What happened to our teams pride? I think we must stop blaming coaches and start looking at the players because they are the ones playing after all.Who ever is not Big Team Material must either be Loaned or Sold.I'm dissapointed in both our Soweto teams the way chiefs played yesterday I can tell its not far from what my team will play today.Guys Brace yourself for another BORING/DULL Soweto Derby.Once and Always.

He he he he, I see most of you haters miss the point here, about last night's game...

Let me spell it out to you: We (CHIEFS) lost the championship by failing to WIN those 2 (2010) opening games against Swallows & Cosmos (...AND DONT TELL ME KAK THAT WE LOST IT AT BEGINING OF THE SEASON OR BEFORE THE SEASON EVEN STARTED OR BY BUY 1 GET 10 SHIT). We lost the race only last week and VV (after realising that the going is definitely gone) wanted to give the rest of the players (especially guys that saw little action this season) some game time.

I was happier to see LEBESE, YENDE, NAHAYO, MASHANGO, etc play last night THAN the result of the game. I hope VV gives more players a chance, especially those newly promoted youngsters (if he registers them with PSL).

Come on you Kaizer Chimpanzees, we can still win this leaugue, At least the money we paid to that Mshengu boy helped, otherwised they could have screwed us again, So who is screwing us next?

I'm happy that the coach used youngsters, Chiefs played a draw in the last 2 matches and the coach was so dissapointed that he gave up the title hopes. Everyone knew that the league is only between Downs and SSP. So let the coach give youngsters a chance bcoz the likes of Tshabalala and Yeye will be in Brazil and who knows, maybe after the wolrd cup they will be bought. So how do you expect the coach to rely on these youngsters when other players are in training in Brazil if he hasn't showed faith on them? What if Dladla gets injured, who's going to replace him? As much as the coach wants to win but he must start now preparing for coming cups and for next season. And how can you expect a coach on his first season to win a league, with players he didn't even bought? He had to use players that were there. Chiefs is not like Sundowns who only have stars even on their bench, so don't expect a miracle in the first season.

At least I will sleep peacefully from now on knowing that none of the Soweto teams will win the league again. It's now 8 PSL titles for Pretoria and 4 for Soweto. The Pretoria derby is now the best derby in SA in football terms at least. Look, when Pirates and Chiefs play in the league these days it's just to decide the top 8 positions. The outcome doesn't really say anything as far as the title is concerned. Contrast that with Sundowns and Supersport. The match between the two giants of SA football can decide the destination of the league title. I know that the Soweto derby is the most advertised-supported derby in SA. But that is all it is. It is just a fight of lightweights that happen to have more fans than heavyweights of SA football (the Pretoria teams)... and I'm not talking about history people. My focus is on the PSL. Not giants of the erstwhile NSL.

I acknowledge that the title is far out of our reach, even position 2. Perhaps like last yar, we may get no.3. When we needed men to take to the field, only the boys came. Chiefs at best can disappoint you to come nice str8, I thought I will book tickets against pilates, but taht would be a training match. But i am happy that few players did prove they are not Chiefs material. Its about time Chiefs let go of these players, mathebula, yende, masango, Rooi, Dominic Isaacs, Nhleko and mbooi. Did you see the shooting of Mhleko, one would have swore that he was a banyana-banyana player or amakrokokroko. he was woeful!!! But what he didn't have in terms of skill, he made up with his hard work which sadly didn't pay off. But his off-target shooting leaves a lot to be desired. Anyone you think of Khosis that we can ship out? Bring in Thabo September, Erwin Isaacs, that left back of sunflops (forgot his name).

About the game, Arrows came back strong in 2nd half, but it must not be forgotten how chiefs also let them off scot free in the 1st half.

Oh, torrealba as well. He is just pocketing some hundreds of grands but is fumbling at best. Let him go back to sunflops. We need hungry players, like these boys of Zimbabwe, though Nengomasha letus down badly against cosmos, but he has been a reliable workhorse, i think we can forgive him. But the four, nengo, sweswe, jambo, and musona, to the coach i will say keep them or atleast three of them. Its a double-edged sword choice of keep all of them or atleast 3 of them. We need space for other foreigners.

I agree with Thabang the league was lost at Coca Cola park against swallows,so its convinient to start preparing for the cup games and next season.VV did well considering that he had no sufficient time to prepare the team before the league began.Makhosi position 3 is a respectable position considering that we once languished @ the bottom of the table with 3 defeats in 6 games.I say lets give more players game time and support the team.Smaxk4lyf
