Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trappatoni has been included in Nigeria's shortlist of coaches to replace the demoted Shuaibu Amodu.

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation met on Tuesday afternoon in Abuja, and approved the inclusion of Trappatoni, who is said to have a clause in his contract allowing him to take up another offer before March 3.

Trappatoni joins a wish list which is headlined by Dutchman Guus Hiddink, and also includes Bruno Metsu, Ratomir Djukovic, Peter Taylor and Hassan Shehata.

The list of shortlisted coaches is due to be trimmed to three next week.

The Exco also directed its technical committee, chaired by Taiwo Ogunjobi, to reach a decision by 'the end of February'.

This definitely a sign of a failled state. Inability to plan in every facet of life and they think they are the best to rule over others. I keep saying it that Nigeria is a failled state without apology.
Who ever comes in now will not qualify from the group stage then if we have accpted the fact that we will not win WC then allow Amodu to take the team to the WC but assisted by coaches like Keshi, Siasia and maybe Oliseh or simply put a consortiyum of local coaches. There is sentiment is everything we do in life so let a black coach take a black team to an African WC. What a message we are telling the world that no son of Africa is good enough to lead team to WC. WE all know no African team will win d WC so let us do it with a sense of pride and show to the world we can compete with them.
But my people will not do the right thing at the right time. So failure is never too far from us bcos we know how to fail in every apect of our life. Please give the job to coach Izilien a former coach of Insurance of Benin let him use video cassette technique to coach the boys together with Benin juju maybe by luck of chance we can just win the WC. I'm not sure most Nigerians want Siasia, especially after Egypt 2009.. again thats the win at all times mentality most of us have.. and with such high degree of impatience, a coach's head can be cut of easily should he "fail

if we want a team as good as USA'94. we should be willing to sow good seeds. that finding a coach that is ready to work and develop from the grassroots, and not interfering in his job. such coach should also be left to learn from his failures if any.. he would need at least a 5 year tenure. what we sow is what we will reap

we cheapen our WC qualification by going after failures - those who couldn't qualify their wards. this certainly is a quest to reward failure. is there reasonable thinker in both nff and ptf. if we think is was luck that amodu qualify se for sa 2010, then be ready to sing the music self inflicted hardluck of berti vogt era.

Communique Of NFF Exec C'mmttee Meeting On Tuesday 09,2010

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation met at the NFF Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja on Tuesday, 9th February, 2010 in continuation of a meeting that began on Friday, 5th February, 2010, and resolved as follows:

1) The Executive Committee deliberated on the meeting with the Honourable Minister/Chairman, National Sports Commission in Abuja on Tuesday, 9th February, 2010 and thanked the Honourable Minister for his frank submissions and support for the activities of the Nigeria Football Federation.

2) Committee firmly resolved that the issue of new Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles must be taken serious and a decision reached by the end of this month, February 2010.

3) The Executive Committee hailed steps taken so far by its Technical Committee towards the recruitment of an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles.

4) Also, Executive Committee unanimously approved the inclusion of Italian Giovanni Trappatoni in the list of candidates to be considered for the job.

We have to be careful in who we line our boys up against so early before (WC) competition starts. We don't want them (Eagles) feeling as if they are of a lesser tier and inferior to the big boys. That is what would happen if we face one of the favorite countries so early before June. These teams have been playing and practicing, while gelling together all this time. We should play the likes of Japan, Paraguay, England and Russia but stay away from likes of Brazil and Germany for now. Let try and sneak up on the competition and use surprise (being underdogs) as our secret weapon. I also think you should try and keep one of the local coaches if we decide to hire a foreign coach. We need someone in camp who actually knows the players well enough to advice the new coach on who is who on the team. I have great hope for the Eagle now. We are on the right track but we need to act fast!

I don't know why everyone don't seem to get the body language of the FA: they are simply buying time and will hang on with Amodu with a pretence that they made all efforts for a quality coach and could not get anyone within the short time frame and time is running out; the end verdict: 'let's go with Amodu. Do we think Amodu just agreed to go coach Home based eagles without something good behind it for him and he's not making any noise? Is Ogunjobi's recent statement not enough clarification that they are just buying time for Amodu?
Most of the coaches ''Long Listed'' - no longer shortlist by what is going on everyday are too much for the FA to be shortlisted and expect them to come for interview; you either offer them the job or forget it if we are really serious. The real issue here is Amodu will be asked to take the team to the world cup with maybe Keshi. Mark it and be ready to go through world cup with Amodu's clueless tactics.

@Emeka, u are wrong. Siasia didnt fail. Rather NFF failed. Come to think of it. Which competition has Siasia gone with a full backing of the NFF. The 2005 U21. the dude was so frustrated that he has to run to alameisigha then for support. He went and conquered. The so called NFF took the glory. same with olympics. The same NFF couldnt push for the release of some players he requested.He went ahead to the Olympics using Ajilore and Kaita as playmakers, the boys washed their jersey to use it for another match in the same tournament. but the team was a team and they conquered. U and i saw that really in the finals, the team needed a playmaker. but the lost just out split second madness by the goalkeeper.
Same with the Egypt journey. Y did the so called NFF frustrate his oversea trip??? Have u also asked urself why the were rejoicing openly when Nigeria was knocked out. Only God knows if they were really paying the boys match bonuses.

Now remember, A manager is the manager, he calls the shots. Siasia as far as we know him will never beg any SE player. cos he will definitely unearth ur replacement even from Scandinavian countries. The players will be begging to play cos they need the SE for their increase in market value.
All we are saying is that NFF should stop this rate race. They should keep sentiments and tribalism by the side. If they must remove Amodu who has done so much to raise the team to 15th from 50th that Vogts left them. They should leave the team in the hands of young coaches who will grow with the team. Coaches who update themselves daily and not the ones waiting for NFF to send them to courses. I have said it earlier. They should get SIASIA/KALIKA/RUFAI/OLISEH as camp cordinator. Give them just 3/4 of the support they will give the so called white magician lets c if they will not rebrand the SE. We will never win the world cup. so why getting a man that will run from SA once the team is knocked out. let SIASIA and co combo have their baptism of fire in SA from there the team will start taking shape. 2012 AFCON is already around the corner.
