Lulu: NFF bowed to public opinion

Posted: 2010-02-08 15:23

NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi says the Glass House were forced to bow to the wishes of Nigerians, who wanted an expatriate Technical Adviser for the national team.

"The Federation was sensitive to the demands of passionate Nigerians, both highly–placed and not–so-highly placed, for a Technical Adviser who will drive the team to play professionally and with discipline as the FIFA World Cup finals approach," Lulu said in Abuja on Monday at a breakfast meeting with the President of African Business Round-table, Alhaji (Dr.) Bamanga Tukur.

Last Friday, the NFF demoted Shuaibu Amodu to the Super Eagles B side, and released a shortlist of six candidates to replace him, and Lulu said the idea was to see the Super Eagles perform creditably at the first–ever World Cup finals to be staged on African soil, noting that “football is one of the instruments that nations now use to position themselves in the international sphere.”

The NFF President was accompanied by Assistant General Secretary (Competitions), Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, Special Assistant Tunde Aderibigbe, Chief Media Officer Ademola Olajire and personal assistant Suleiman Yusuf.

Well Satan's people what is your take on this?

tee: 2010-02-08 16:27

This clearly demonstrate that this fools in the glass house are bereft of ideas and direction. So it takes the whole country to tell them the right thing to do for 5 years.
First, it was the appointment of berti vogts who by the way failed miserably with the scottish national side and then amodu, who again, came last in the job interview. This guys just dont get it, what is the reason for shortlisting managers that are either unavailable or not so compitent and conversant with african football.
Please mr lulu & co talk to siasia and oliseh and save us from this miserious and misguided decisions and also time.

tee: 2010-02-08 16:34

@ EMEKA, what do you mean by satan's people? Are we satan's people for looking for ways to improve our national team. I think you are sick in your head.

parkheaven: 2010-02-08 16:35

So what this means is that if not for the fan NFF wouldn't have know who is a good coach and who is not, again they want to deceive nigerians by adding big names like HIDDICK and VAN GAAL to they list of coaches,HIDDICKS had said earlier that he didn't need nigeria job and who does not know that VAN GAAL is seriously engaged with Bayern Munich, i see another BETI VOGTZ coming( a rubbish white coach coming to give NFF condition) let me remind NFF that there is a coach called MARCO VAN BASTEN who is available and there is another coach called SAMSON SIASIA who is also avalaible, if they can't give us these coaches then they should publish the post of S.E Coach so that other coaches can apply.

@Tee, who told you that the glass house has finally known the problem after 5 years? Just wait and see after the new so-called technical adviser is named.
I keep saying that if the SE needs a white-man then, Nigeria as a whole need a foreign technical adviser to steer our ship to economic progress.

Shijo: 2010-02-08 16:45

THIS IS NOT THE WISHES OF NIGERIANS!!! The wishes of Nigerians is for you to appoint Samson Siasia as the chief coach of the SE immediately. With him and his own assistants, Nigeria will perform creditably well at the Mundial.

Samson Siasia: THE WISH OF NIGERIANS!!!!

ucche: 2010-02-08 16:46

FELLOW NIGERIANS, I SAY IT AGAIN, THESE FOOLS WILL NOT LISTEN TO US !!!!!!!!

INSTEAD OF RESIGNING,

THEY WILL END UP HIRING PETER TAYLOR OR FORMER GHANA COACH,RATOMIR DJUGOVIC

JUST WATCH THESE NINCOMPOOPS!!!!!

Babatunde: 2010-02-08 16:46

I must second or third the guys in here.

JUST GIVE US SIASIA and we will be OK!!!!!

He understands our football. He has been the coach for our youth programms and together with this crop of players, gained a lot of experience on the International level. Combined with some of the boys he took to the U-23 Olympiad and some of the recent SE players he can make a world of difference.

What else is required for a criteria to be coach of the Super Eagles?? Does he need to come kiss your asses at the NFF??

Leonard: 2010-02-08 16:49

Paraguay,Japan!! Is it a sin if we play Brazil,Spain...
Why are these people fooling themselves?Yes,foreign coach was needed maybe some 6 to 7months ago but not when the WC is 4 months away.THERE IS NO FOREIGN COACH THAT WILL PERFORM THIS MAGIC THEY ARE EXPECTING(even F.CAPELLO).We all know new faces are needed in the SE for a change,so Hiddink will discover these players within 4 months? I'm not trying to justify NFF for wanting to keep Amodu, infact sacking him is the best thing that happened to our football lately even if it means our going to WC without a Coach, but the fact remains that all soccer loving Nigerians and even non Nigerians know the person that can redeem this team within these short time b/c he is well acqainted with both the players in Amodu's camp and outside the camp. It seems LULU swore not to ever give this job to SIASIA! the situation is becoming personal!!! FOR CHRIST'S SAKE,SHEHATA IS NOT IN ANY SENSE BETTER THAN SIA1.

@Mega thx a lot! he failed to understand that those comments refer mostly to him, that he who lives in glass houses do not throw stones!! that only one finger pointed towards Amodu but the rest four nko?
I can not wait for august.

DANIEL: 2010-02-08 17:28

Indeed they are too many mad men here in this forum. i wont mention names but am just wondering that some of those who are glamouring for the removal of Amodu and hiring a foreign coach are not talking about Siasia. Its this not madness????

the irony here remains that its this same people that will also be calling for the head of the foreign coach if he fails to scale through the first stage at the world cup.

there are just too many irregularities going on in the nigeria and as such too many things has realy gone wrong.

Imagine Lulu saying that it was because of the complains by Nigerians that makes the glass house to sack Amodu when you and i knows that it was because of the intervention of the presidential task force. WHO IS FOOLING WHO IN THE COUNTRY, SOONEST WE WILL KNOW" but this madness has to stop indefinitely or else nothing good will hapen in this country.

this country has really turn to something else, everybody now considers telling lies as the only way of getting things done. MAY GOD help us.

Lets see the miracle that the new foreign coach when perform when he resumes full duty.

May God have mercy on everybody fighting for the downfall of this nation.

Best regards

Alhaji,

Honestly, your board has out performed many others before it. During your era, there's been greater marketing drive, more sponsorship money, no bonuses fight with players & there's been relative success. Your board has also appointed some good coaches a la Tella, Siasia, Obuh etc.

However, I will still pick coaches' appointment as your bane! From Jossy Lad to Ladan Bosso to the mother of all mistakes Amodu.
If only ur coaches' appointment had been inspired! Rather you chose to politicise it, some you got away with (eg Amokachi - Siasia U-23, Dike - Nwosu - Obuh U-17) but the most important one has come to be your waterloo.

If only you had listened to us back in 2008 to give Siasia the job, moreso, as he came tops in the interview. If only you had stood up for what was & is right back then, if only...... I guess you know with the benefit of hindsight now that that was the huge decision that your whole board is now be judged by.

I sincerely feel sorry for you & on the other hand, I can't but help think that you have brought this on yourself. You put many inconsequential things ahead of professionalism, mediocrity ahead of excellence.
So there goes your 2nd term in office & a golden place in our football history!

@ DANIEL, If the nff hires any coach white or black and he does not perform and falls below standard then they should sack the coach , even if it sia sia. But the truth of the matter is, we all know that sia sia is not going to fail and we sincerely have faith in him.It is not by mistake that 90% of nigerian want him. He's got the passion, zeal, wherewithall and the pedigree to take us beyond 2010.

Hahahahaha! It's my turn to start laughing. Hahahahahaha! Any foreign coach who takes this job is stupid, greedy, is not worth the effort, or is a mercenery who is too excited to exploit our stupidity for to improve his CV and of course, his bank account. NFF decided to be stampeded into relegating Amodu, refusing to attach Keshi and Siasia to him, and made a stupid decision. Hahahahaaha! Let's see how the farce turns out. Hahahahhaha!

My dear people,i thank you all, the lovers and fans of Nigerian football, especially those of us who continue saying the truth no matter the cost, but let me assures all, my good friends in this forum, that the battle is not yet over until they fulfil those promises, i do not believe in any of them and what they say, ok, they listed the coaches they wanted to hire, they can turn around and tell us again that there is no time, let Amodou continue, so let us stop celbrating untill we see the final outcome.God help us.
Egbogu.

DON: 2010-02-08 18:11

We Nigerians are not asking for foreign coach give us Samson Siasia he knows our players, that is what we are saying.

DANIEL: 2010-02-08 18:18

@ Tee and Tart, don't allow anybody to deceive you in this country about our votes and cry. its not our complains or our out cry that made the glass house to sack Amodu. it was because of the declaration of the presidential task force when they said the government hands is off their management if they failed to get the SE a foreign coach.

the reason why am angry now is because Lulu is not saying, it was because of the out cry of Nigerians that motivated them to take the decision of Sacking Amodu. THEY SHOULD STOP TELLING US LIES.

we know that our opinion and suggestions in Nigerians and here in this forum does not count, we are only trying to make ourselves feel better and get the fun because football is just one thing that will continue to unite us in this country.

@Tee, am not saying that Sia Sia is not good, but if you must eat frog, you should eat the one with eggs, i mean real good eggs.
i tell you one thing, those in the glass house will not hire any of our local coaches, just mark my word. they are going to hire a foreign coach and at the end of the deals, those involve will get exotic cars and build new houses for themselevs and family.

tell me, what do you think Okocha will contribute to the growth of football in Nigeria by wanting to contest for vice president in NFF? what stop him from setting up an Academy in the country where he can be training future SE?

too many irregularities in this country. i need a change of heart and mind to scale throuigh

@ Austine, nice comment, dont really, they will soon see reason about what we are saying here.

Thanks

DONT ONLY BOW TO OUR QUEST FOR A FOREIGN COACH BY GIVING IT TO A COACH WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT NIGERIAN OR AFRICAN FOOTBALL.

GIVE IT TO A FOREIGN COACH NOT BY NAME BUT MY HIS ABILIY TO STAY IN NIGERIA AND DISCOVER TALENT SO THAT HE CAN BE ABLE TO BLEND THE LOCAL PALYERS WITH THE FOREIGN ONES.

DONT DO IT IN A WAY THAT YOU WILL MAKE HIM FAIL AND SAY, IS THIS NOT THE FOREIGN COACH YOU HAD WANTED AND WHAT HAVE THEY DONE. BONFERE JO OR WESTERHOF CAN PERFORM IN THIS SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND CAN BUILD A GREAT TIME 2YRS FROM NOW.

IF YOU GIVE IT TO YOUR SO CALL BIG NAME, PERSONALLY I DONT THINK IT WILL WORK, BCOS THEY ALREADY HAVE THE NAME AND SO DO NEED TO WORK FOR NAME AGAIN. SECONDLY MOST OF THE NAME YOU MENTIONED DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT OUR FOOTBALL AND PLAYERS SO IT WILL BE DIFFICULT.

ALSO REMEMBER CLUB IS DIFFERENT FROM COUNTRY BCOS IN CLUB YOU CAN BUY A PLAYER AND USE HIM FOR YOUR GAME PLAN WHILE YOU CAN ONLY USE WHAT YOU HAVE IN COUNTRY. SO TAKE A COACH THAT KNOW NIGERIAN PLAYER AND CLUBS ALREADY TO MAKE THINGS EASY FOR HIM AND HAVE A FORMIDABLE TEAM THAT WILL MAKE US PROUD. ADVICE, GO FOR WESTERHOF OR BONFERE JO.

Sani Lulu has once again confirmed the fear of many Nigerians that the himself asnd his cohorts at the Glass House are one and same birds with same cleavages with Amodu Shuaibu. These are people without focus and can be swayed like a paper in the wind.
Anyhow, they have done well by relegating Amodu to the B Team in order to improve the Home-Based players and possibly learn ropes of the mordern game himself. However, it's expedient that the NFF bring in Samson Siasia to combine with Stephen Keshi to the manage the SE to the World Cup. The duo together with Simon Kalika will make a good outing for our SE in SA.

@Daniel, You cannot dissuade or discourage me from agitating for a better SE and for a more improved polity in all levels of governance.
Your pessimism and negativity will not take us nowhere. I am well aware that manay nigerians are feed up and frustrated by the tactic of the so called self appointed leaders... ho sorry rulers that we have, but inspite of that there will come a time when CHANGE will appear either they like it or not. There is a time for everything, time to start and time to end.
Nigerians are constantly and consistently treated like morons and i dont think we are that gullible. Please dont see this as an insult, rather i want you to join us in this crusade as we clamour for CHANGE. This is 2010. We cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result . My brothers it is time to change our materialistic mentality in order for nigeria to move forward since 1960,50 years. with our natural and human resource we have achieved nothing.
Please i urge everyone of us to start visiting the nff website and start bombarding them with messages. Daniel, dont think they dont read our comments or know what is going on.

African Cup of Nations - Benin sack coach, staff and players

Benin have sacked the entire coaching and playing staff following their first-round exit from the African Cup of Nations.

The bizarre decision comes after the Squirrels finished third in Group C, behind eventual winners Egypt and semi-finalists Nigeria.

French coach Michel Dussuyer led the West African minnows to a draw against Mozambique, who they pipped to third on goal difference.

It was their joint-highest finish at the tournament, having previously qualified in 2004 and 2008 but failing to earn a point.

Their top players include Paris St Germain midfielder Stephane Sessegnon, Metz striker Razak Omotoyossi and Plymouth defender Reda Johnson.

The FA claimed a lack of patriotism and mass indiscipline led to the cull.

A good appointment, but the nff shud be careful and not make it a media circus until they appointment is sealed.

sly1: 2010-02-08 21:19

LULU OR Mumu, the voice of the people is the voice of God. There is no way you can now hide behind Amodu, we are now very sure that you are the problem. Your refusal to hire competent coaches for our national teams will lead to your removal. WE CAN'T WAIT. THAT GLASS HOUSE MUST BURN DOWN BEFORE YOU STAY PAST AUGUST,

For those hoping that a good performance in this friendly will help Amodu keep this job, you need to know this uncertainty has further eroded the respesct Amodu may have left among the Eagles. The players will barely tolerate him because they know he is not in charge anymore. Amodu will in turn respond with bad belle decisions by benching the players who have spoken out against him like Osaze, Kanu,Martins Taiwo etc. If a good coach is hired to help him what is the guaranty that Amodu will listen to him. Amodu knew that the Nations cup was a test he must pass before taking theb team to the World cup, yet he insisted on chosing unfit players without one single training session. HABA! THIS MAN WILL NEVER LEARN.

For 2 years Amodu can't read matches to decide the best fomation to play depending on the opponent. He is stuck on 4-3-3 only.Case in point, the games against Mozammbique and Zambia. Amodu made the same substitutions for both games. Where the two games similar in any way? He can't beat any well organized teams. When he gets his formation wrong as he so often does in big games, who will tell him when to switch. Who will Amodu remove from a game, and who does he bring in and when. Amodus incompetence is just too clear to ignore. I honestly think it is best to let KANU take this team to the World Cup as player/coach since the geniuses in NFF can't find a better man than Amodu.

The NFF has now further cemented the fact that they are the THE MAIN PROBLEM in our football. So going forward, the removal of everybody in that body is SACROSANCT.

BIG SLY WITH EAGLES 4 LIFE

DANIEL: 2010-02-08 21:42

@Tee, let me start by commending your maturity because you really try to be yourself with the level of your diction. i really do appreciate the fact that you are not sentimental about your comment.

Tee, i think that you are right but what am saying here is that they will end up hiring a foreign coach and leaving the good local coaches that we have. you will agree with me that foreign coach has not really helped us in this country.

Tee,you are talking about change which i think its a gradual process but dont you think that its taking Nigeria almost forever to achieve this desired change? i mean,we kept one repeating history and doing the wrong thing every time.

Tee, i really disagreed with you in the aspect of the NFF reading comment on their website. these guys are just too busy to settle down in front of their desktop or laptop. please am not speaking negetively about my country, but we really have a long way to go.

Once again, thanks for the level of your comment.lets just sit down and watch what the outcome of the NFF will look like, but mark my word, they willdefinitely hire the service of a white man.

best regards
Daniel

MTNFootball.com can reveal today that sacked Super Eagles coach, Shuaibu Amodu, begged to work under a new foreign coach when top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) informed he and his assistants of their decision to sack them in Benguela.

“We were very professional with how we went about sacking Amodu and his men,” one of the officials disclosed to MTNFootball.com.

“We called all of them in Benguela and told them they will not be taking the team to the World Cup. So, none of them ought to be shocked by the decision taken by the NFF board on Friday in Abuja.

“Amodu accepted our decision and even begged that he was ready to work with the new man we would hire.”

As exclusively revealed by MTNFootball.com, the NFF board sat in Benguela immediately after the Eagles opening Group C match against Egypt and endorsed that Amodu be shown the door and so Friday’s meeting in Abuja was only a mere formality to seal Amodu’s fate.

If Amodu was all along playing to the gallery about his future with the team, he clearly saw the hand writing on the wall, when top officials flew into Benguela accompanied by the Lagos-based lawyer who put together his contract, which ends on July 31, 2010.

The coach snubbed the lawyer in Benguela as he failed to acknowledge his salutations.

MTNFootball.com can also reveal that Amodu was given the home-based Eagles on compassionate grounds because there is a clause in his contract which allows for his employers to fire him outright without any compensation

Please Stop this lies.

Dont ever say that you people do the wishes of ngeria by demoting Amodu. If you people want to retain him then go ahead and if not then go ahead no body is disturbing you with the money you are stealing there.

We Nigeria that is outside the country Love our country and we are proud to be Nigeria but you Sani and Udoh continue with your fake news to distract people over there. It is not good try to change. Here what the people say everybody know that there is corruption in nigeria and even a new born baby at derby here know it, there is no need for you to be ashamed of saying that you have spend the money that you should use to employ foreign coach.

That is why it is bette for you to call Siasia back and remove all the Juju that you people have used to charm him when he fail at Egypte last time. Siasia can do better than Amodu

Please listen to what people say and make them happy. you never bow to our pressure one day. Government is not good no lihht no water no electricity people are not happy about this , the only place they have have joy you people dont give them the chance to have it there.

God will judge you all one day

Stan: 2010-02-09 04:05

Sani Lulu is right. The NFF was “sensitive to public demands”. Imagine, the public that is poor and struggling to feed themselves and their families, is the same public that is clamoring for an exorbitantly priced foreign coach. How does one explain this logic?

But where is the PTF getting the money to pay such high profile list of coaches? It better not be (but I suspect it is) coming from the federal govt. With all the poor, and suffering citizens and malfunctioning infrastructure, it’ll be shameful to spend such amounts on a single coach. Don’t forget, the foreign coach will have foreign assistants; they get paid too. Wow, we are good aren’t we?

NFF, just so we all know: It is not called a “short list” until after a few (short list) have been selected following an initial screening of a larger number of candidates. The short list are then retained for a possible second interview.

Stan: 2010-02-09 04:09

We have known for eight years that this special WC will be held in our continent. We are just now, with only three months to go, rushing and scrambling. Boy, we are good aren’t we?
I don’t specifically believe that every country going to the WC has had plans in place for eight years. But being aware, and planning well for things like this is what often separate the good from the bad.

We certainly talk too much. We should let what we do be our greater voice. To see some of those lost Ghanaians whom we used to feed and clothe, now come here and open their mouths to us is a disgrace. My dad used to say we were like fathers to them. They came to us for almost everything. But can we really say we blame them now?

I see a lot of people gloating here but they may be in for a shocker when they see Amodu at the world cup. The press like most Nigerians want Amodu out and are reporting with screaming headlines and exaggerated stories. it seems however the NFF is looking for a TA to assist. we Amodu. we wait and see as the drama unfolds. read story below

Later, You people calling for Amodu replacement will appoint OBJ as our Coach, take this take that, how many coach will lead us, calling for Siasia,Obuh, calling for white coach, calling for Olishe and others, a team with 12 Coach, make una stop rubish and leave the innocent Amodu alone

Bob : 2010-02-09 11:39

SiaSia, you are the COACH WE DONT WANT....You failed at Egypt U-20 WC....SE is bigger than you..Stay away from SE

Babatunde: 2010-02-09 11:53

Hello Mr Jimoh,
Even if Nigeria is using over-aged players, the Olympic U-23 team is a mixture of players with over-aged players amongst them. Siasia came home with a silver medal. In this tournament Sia One showed a great understanding of tactical and strategical depth. He also exhibited a highly disciplined approach towards his play and pattern. What else do you want?

@Ola, thanks for your very intelligent comments and contribution to the debate. I wish everyone on the forum will be as original and constructive as you. It is just that I missed your point. Does everyone clamouring for one option make that option right? That is how people were calling for the head of Westerhof in 1992 uptil 1994, until he picked the cup in Tunisia. What makes you think that with constructive criticism and support from ALL Amodu cannot perform at the WC? What make you think that Keshi and Siasia cannot work with amodu? Are you too myopic to see that we are the laughing stock of the world, not because of coming third at the nations cup, but because we are mistreating the man that won WC tickets for Nigeria on 2 occassions. PLease read today's Complete Sport and find out how the world regards us for this stupidity that we are displaying. Why should I not laugh? When we know everything and yet are consistently making the same mistakes. Read Bonfere Jo's interview on Complete Sports of today. We are all bahaving like a mob. Please let us think and not make a headless decision, though it may seem popular at the moment. @Ola, I will continue laughing at all of you who cannot see beyond your noses.

Ola: 2010-02-10 08:57

@Austin, am not saying that we should all agree in same direction, but the case of Amodu is glaring, he such an arrogant man that no matter how much u criticize him will never listen. check this complete sport that u referred me to and see the comment of NFF officials about him. Are u saying u are satisfy with the current performances of SE? if yes then u suck!
