Odemwingie makes CAF XI

Osaze Odemwingie was the only Nigerian player to make the Nations Cup XI selected by the Technical Committee of CAF.

Goalkeeper Essam El Hadary led five players from the championship-winning team Egypt named in the All star selection.

Angola surprisingly had two players in the list, ahead of Ghana, while no player from the Ivory Coast was listed.

Members of the committee are Hussein Abdel Moneim, technical director of CAF, Ben Kouffie (Gha), Adegboyega Onigbinde (Ngr), Anthony Baffoe (Gha), Noser Fathy (Egy) and Maalouch Belhassan (Tun)

CAF XI: 1. Essam EL HADARY (EGY) 2. Madjid BOUGHERRA (ALG) 20. Wael GOMAA (EGY) 21. MABINA (ANG) 6. Alexandre SONG (CMR) 7. Ahmed FATHI (EGY) 17. Ahmed HASSAN (EGY) 11. Osaze ODEMWINGIE (NGR) 3. Asamoah GYAN (GHA) 16. FLAVIO (ANG) 9. Mohamed ZIDAN (EGY)

SUBSTITUTES 22. Richard KINGSON (GHA) 6. Emmanuel MBOLA (Zambia) 10. Achille EMANA (CMR) 10. Kwadwo ASAMOAH (GHA) 12. Seydou KEITA (MLI) 15. Karim ZIANI (ALG) 15. Mohamed Nagy GEDO (EGY) 13. Where is Did Drogba? He was clearly on a holiday in Bungeala, Angola. Hehehehe. Zidane is a good player. Alex Song has played in almost each and every game for Arsenal this year, he is going to be great.

There are no Legislatures to pass bill on players selected, no elections and i don't care if Amodu allowed players forced on him, he is the Manager and Coach of the Super Eagles, that some players performed below expections, that Lulu or others forced players on him is entirely his fault, he could have chosen the path of honour and resigned when players were forced on him or selected match fit players instead players like Olofijana, Yakubu, Mohammed and Kanu with sentiments of forced on him. Amodu must go or as i heard a Technical adviser be placed above him to select players without bias. If ask me Siasia will do a good job and can carry on for continuity sake like the the Egyptian coach has done, let us look beyond the 2010 WC and allow Siasia build a team irrespective of how he may perform in South Africa, there's no doubt he is good and he's got the backing of the new Eagles. Amodu should go, he has played his part, he can't give what he does not have- it's simple, let him Go. Give Siasia a chance.

These members of commitee that selected these players are very wrong. For the fact that you were chosen by Issa Hayattou doesn't mean that you people are correct, there are ordinary people who can do better than you even that goat called Hayattou.Where did you place Mikel and Shittu? Shittus' defence didn't concede any goal from the time he was introduced except the mistake caused by Nwaneri against Ghana. How many did Bougherra concede? It should have been Shittu and Gomaa 'cos Shittu is current Africa' best defender. What did Alex Song do to deserve a place there when he was eliminated in the quarter finals?,even Andre Ayew who doesn't deserve anything. Mikel is far better than these 2 guys.Vincent Enyeama is supposed to be there in place of that Ghana keeper.infact you people are just mad and biased, you don't know what you're talking about.

Well done Osaze Odemwingie for making this list, but I think Danny Shittu deserve to be in that list or atleast in the substitute group.

Three or four things I want to say:

1) Amodu is a decent coach and should be left to take SE to the world cup. We must learn from the experience of 2002! However he should be given some tehnical assistant. This man has been unfairly criticised and some would have melted under the attack, but he did not. Here is a man who was given a job and a mandate to qualify for the world cup and semifinal in the AFCON and he delivered on both counts, yet some ignorant and uninformed "coaches" and idle and currupt PTF members are calling for a replacement with one foreign coach. Like the excellent governor Fashola (SAN) of Lagos state asked: Where is that foreign coach who has qualified a country for 2010 that has no job now that should take Amodu's job? Those forumites shouting here and wallowing in ignorance should answer the governor! Or you want to bring a jobless foreign coach like Berti Vogts or those who failed to qualify their country because you don't like Amodu's face?

2) The problem of the Eagles is not so much of a coach than of personnel- the players. They do not show much commitments in the field, playing like they don't care much and trying to show off individual skills that lead no where. The type of "I am ready to die in the field" for my country attitude adopted by Ghananians, the Cameroon and Egypt in every competition. Nigeria suffers this fate with the Ivory Coast in every tournament. Look at how Ghananians were blocking the SE in the semi-finals with all their strenght, bodies and ready to share blood. The Black stars were outplayed by the SE in that match but the determination and commitment of the young black stars ensured they won. If I may ask is it Amodu's fault that despite the black stars linning up their defense, 4 clear chances were created and Martins failed to score 3, and Osaze Odemwingie failed to score once. May be Amodu should kick the ball inside the net!

3) The SE lack a creative midfielder and they desperately need one soon, but if they can't get one before the world cup- just 4 months away- then we need Olofinjana in the holding midfield role and Mikel properly trained to become the creator with Kanu coming in after half time to replace Mikel. Mikel is a bit slow and he should work on his fitness and pace and stop frequent backwards passes which slows the Nigerian game. I just wonder why Kanu and Olofinjana were not brought in for the Ghana match at some stage. Olofinjana has scored some spectacular goals for Hull city in the EPL and he is robust and strong in the holding role. Recently he has started shooting from 30 yards and scoring like Sunday Oliseh used to do.

Finally I just think some players taken to Angola 2010 are not matured yet for SE roles: Nwaneri, Yosuf Mohammed in defence and the likes of Etuhu in midfield should be dropped and replaced with new players or even old ones like Adeleye who are better and more confident players.

Let Amodu be, atleast this same coach went to Paris and beat the world class french team in their own backyard. So those people talking nonsense about SE been beaten 10-0 by Spain or Argentina will see when we get to South Africa. African football is even tougher than playing Oyibo people. Amodu should however use the FIFA free days and get the boys to traing on time.

God bless SE, God bless Amodu, God bless Fashola the only intelligent governor and lover of sport in that country!

@Soccer_Pro How could you imagine that Mikel is worth Alex Song??? Do try and understand football!! Remove sentiment and get it right that Mikel be compared to Alex Song either in national duty or at club level.

me think that the rational for selecting players for the best 11 is faulty.the tournament highest goal scorer [gedo]is not even in the best 11.atleast enyeama who kept 4 clean sheet same with egypt goalie and help his country pass the 1/4 final should have been in the team or in place of ghana's kingson.shittu should also be there instead of the algerian.his introduction in the nigerian team brought stability to their defense line.they conceeded 1 goal in 5games.zambia kabala deserves a place in the team instead of angolan flavio who scored 2goals in the opening game and that was all about him.caf please come out with something good.this is not good enough.

Nigeria performed better than Cameroun, Ivory Coast, Algeria, etc. Let's agree that even though the style of play may not have endeared the Eagles to the fans it wasn't all gloom and doom.

There are 2 or more super eagle's player that should be listed in Somilia's XI players like Obinna Nweneri and Yakubu Ayebgeni.

yes that is where they belong, let them stop hindering the progress of Super Eagles.
