Hunt slates Zongo's antics

Posted: 25 January 2010 Time: 07:34 am

Even though SuperSport United midfielder Masibusane Zongo's showboating against Brondby IF at the weekend may have wowed the crowd, his coach Gavin Hunt was not impressed.

Zongo had fans on the edge of their seats every time he was in possession of the ball and at one stage made mockery of a Brondby player by dancing in front of the ball much to delight to fans at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

"It was disrespectful; he is a professional player and we never expected him to behave like that. I don't want to see him doing it again. I was happier to see him playing a good game in our next match against Kaizer Chiefs," Hunt says.

Even though Matsatsantsa ended up losing, Hunt says he was impressed with his side's performance against Amakhosi.

"The game provided us with a platform to give fringe players a chance to play. I was very impressed with players like Davies Nkausu who gave an award winning performance in both games.

"My main ambition is to see all my players in peak form ahead of both our CAF and Premiership matches," Hunt says.

Maybe Hunt want to build or develop this player into a top class material but then I feel he is also demotivating this boy.Yes he must have showboated but he was doing it positively without loosing the ball.Instead that overseas team wa so nervous and disoganised after Zongo came in.The boy looks grat but he plays for the wrong team.My advise to Zongo is to listen to whatever the coach tells him and follow the instruction and if he does that he will go places.Dede Ayew is playing like that in Afcon using his skills to fool opponents but no one says he showboat. This media is killing the players too.Why publishing this nonsese whilst u know that this young star is beginning to be serious about his football. This boy is better than Teko and Dane Klate

"It was disrespectful; he is a professional player and we never expected him to behave like that. I liked it very much, but at some point I felt embarrassed. He must do it when necessary nothing wrong with that. The stylish passing and step-overs and whole lot of positive tricks are what we want but stopping the ball completely only to dance MANYESA or GWAZAGWAZA on it, is too much and embarrassing.

The boy is definite TALENT,

Disrespectful ? Gavin Hunt is sick now . The player wasn't disrespectful, that was football & enjoying his game even though Zongo was overdoing it.
Zongo just needs to be more productive and be a team player in the field. Other than that he's a very talented player.

KALI mei buda, Chiefs' non-dominance of the league title does not mean that we should not be winning any other competition, official or friendly. You narrowly judge Chiefs on the league run but you forget that PSL is not only about the league title, else there wouldn’t be any other league competition all season long.

By the way, did you really have to scream “Bring the world cup, Bring the world cup!” when celebrating that meaningless BB’s 6-2 win over non-competitive Swaziland? He he he he

For heaven's sake mr Hunt it was a friendly game. We all know that you don't like the skillfull players. the sooner you go and coach at Germany the better. In Germany they play direct soccer.

It was a friendly, so there's nothing wrong with entertaining the fans. Man it was a change from the boring futbol we usuali see from Zion Water Sport United. I am sure in a serious match he won't do that...so Hunt get a life!

personally i see nothing wrong with showing off your ball juggling skills when your team is winning & you not losing the ball. it's a friendly game nogal. But as team coach, gavin calls the shots so it will be wise 4 Zongo to listen to the SOB.
P.S. I don't remember showboating being unprofessional until Glen Hoddle complained a few years back

I was watching Gavin Hunt yesterday on Supersport when Robert Marawa asked him to define skill for him. He said "skill" in a player is measured by the player's ability to pass the ball accurately, take the player's on in a way that benefits the team and vision. Therefore dancing on the ball according to him is not defined as skill...As much as it brings delight to the fans, may be Gavin is right.Best players in the world don't do it.

Kali you are very stupid because everybody knows that Chiefs always win a credible cup and the same cannot be said about your tema. Last season they won the MTN 8 and the season before Telkom cup. Even the two season under Middendorp they won the ABSA cup and SAA Super 8. Tell us what is it that your team won during those times. You know yo cannot tell because there was nothing. Teams that can be excited winning Macufe Cup, Peter Mokaba Cup and other friendly game cups are teams like Sundowns, Supersport, Pirates, Celtic and other teams in the PSL not Chiefs. At Chiefs winning is a culture just like at Man United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Juventus, Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic. The 64 Cups won by Chiefs in their 40 years history were not including Vodacom Challenge, Charity Spectacular, and useles friendly cups. If they were included the number of cups won over 40 years could well be over 100. Remember Chiefs are the only team that have won a cup in Africa in the new millennium and the are the only team who were voted Africa best team in 2001/02 season. Tells us Kali do you think you mediocre teams can come close to this impressive record of success. I don't think so, not in our life time.

Typical South African footballer, and the fans encouraging it is pathetic...

Coaches hate it when players do it, and it is time South African footballers learn that in the highest level, Skills require a end product, such a cross or a shot on goal
