Mambas ready for Super Eagles

Posted: 2010-01-20 07:46

Mozambique's Mambas lock horns with the Super Eagles in Angola today and their coach Mart Nooij states that he and his men are not afraid of the Nigerians.

Nooij's side still has a big chance of making it into the quarterfinals. A win should be enough for the Mozambicans, and Nooij has made it clear that his men are ready for the challenge.

"We drew with Nigeria in Maputo last year," said Nooij to Fifa.com.

"And they only scored in stoppage time when they beat us 1-0 in Abuja during October, when our central defender Mano was injured behind the goal with a broken leg."

"Nigeria were very lucky against us. Perhaps it is ordained that the luck on Wednesday will now be on our side.

"We have no fear. Did you see any fear in my team when we played against Egypt? Why should we fear an opponent?

"After three years of collaboration together, I know these Mozambicans guys will fight for every inch, but unfortunately here at the Nations Cup, we have made three individual errors in our two matches and this has not helped us at all."

Nooij should stop dreaming! Being touted as possible replacement for Amodu is enough to make u want to prove a point. However, it's time for Amodu and the eagles to prove to you and the moz team that Nigeria has come a long way in World football. Today, the men (SE) shall be separated from the boys (Moz) and the world will see how the Eagles prey on Mambas!

Toluwase: 2010-01-20 08:26

What is the meaning of"And they only scored in stoppage time when they beat us 1-0 in Abuja" So that stoppage time wasn't within the regulation time or what do you mean? It's not your fault anyway. Apari oko yakuba

THE MABAS ARE CONFIDENT BECAUSE THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THEIR COACH HAS TURNED SMALL MOZAMBIQUE TO A FORCE TO RECON WITH IN AFRICA. HE IS A GOOD COACH. AMODU, LULU AND OGUNJOBI HAS TURNED OUR FOOTBALL TO NOTHING. THEY SHOULD BE SACKED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS TOURNEY. EVEN IF THE EAGLES WIN IT. IF THAT HAPPENS, ITS 'COS OF THE DETERMINATION OF THE PLAYERS NOT THE COACHES INPUT. WE ALL WATCH THE MATCHES, THE PLAYERS THEY PICK, THE CHANGES THEY MAKE, AND ALL THEIR OPERATIONS ARE POOR AND FULL OF INEPTITUDE.

Billion: 2010-01-20 08:30

The SE has improved with every game thus far. A convincing improvement today with a superior goal margin could make Amodu retain his job after the AFCON. We're still holding on till the semi-final. I'm already thinking of Cameroun.

I look forward to this match with great expectations knowing its going to be the defining moment for NFF,SEs technical crew and the players.i believe in miracles and do hope something extraordinary happens to lift up the spirits of football passionate nigerians,i hope the eagles finds their feet and play like a team and real pros,i hope Amodu wakes up,brainstorms and come up with a winning formula,i hope to see SEs win and do it convincinly.i hope to see flairs, skills, amazing freekick goals,i hope to see mikel split mambas defence with divine passes and creativity,i hope to see a rock solid eagles defence.i know its possible if they will live up to their name.you dont have the prefix.SUPER attached to your name for the sake of it.this is the time to prove it.

oge: 2010-01-20 09:21

i have not been impressed with Amodu and his assistants but i believe in second chances and think this is the time for him to either shut his critics up or humbly throw in the towel.let him prove to the world why he should still be SEs coach.let him prove why he should be ranked amongst the best,Great managers prove their worth when they are under unbearable heat instead of buckling under the weight of intense pressure.this match should be a stepping stone to achieve his dream,if he wants to remembered for greatness.Amodu needs to keep cool,he needs his magnifying glasses to view the minuest of details,he needs his binoculars to spot any threat from afar and come up with counter measures.its not impossible,he can do it,the players can do it.May eagles fly high not just above the mambas but the lions, the tigers,or whatever names they might bear.

Kerewa: 2010-01-20 09:37

The drums have started rolling in lubango. Nooij wants amodus job by all means. Am not gonna miss 2days game. not in my world. Amodu should please shut the mans mouth today or loose his job to him.

I will watch the bench today, cos the match will be played by the bench. Pls mr idah tell amokachi to pls sit on the bench and watch today so our coach will do the talking today. I really enjoyed him in the last game telling echiejile to play line ball with osaze, Thats wat they are paid for and not sitting on the bench leaving the chicks to be devoured by the mambas.

Amodu, a draw will not save u today. It has to be a convincing win so that Nooij can shut up for good, and ur detractors can at least keep mute for sometime.

I DONT PRAY TO EAT WHERE I DID NOT WORK, THE MAMBAS HAVE WORKED HARD TO COME TO THIS STAGE, EVEN HELPING NIGERIAN TO BEAT TUNISIAN, WHAT THE NIGERIANS COULD NOT DO IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY AGAINST THE SAME TUNISIANS. I THINK THEY DESERVE TO BE IN THE QUARTER FINAL THAN THE EAGLES. SO I WISH THEM GOOD LUCK AND PRAY THE EAGLES JUST COME BACK HOME AND GET STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN. I DONT BELIEVE IN WINNING BY FLUICK. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU THAT SEES THE TRUTH AND NOT SAYING IT JUST BCOS OF SENTIMENT, I DONT PUT SENTIMENT IN GAMES.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO EAGLE NOW HAVE STARTED YEARS BACK,THEN IT WAS BAD BUT PEOPLE AND NFF REFUSE TO SEE IT THEN AND NOW IT HAS COME TO WORST. IF STEPS IS NOT TAKING NOW BY REALISING THAT THING IS WORST FOR OUR FOOTBALL SENIOR TEAM, I BET YOU OUR NATIONAL TEAM WILL DIE OFF. GET IS STARIGHT AND DO THE RIGHT THING AT THE RIGHT TIME, SACK AMODU AND GET A GOOD COACH TO START BUILDING A GOOD NATIONAL TEAM WITH COMMITMENT WE USE TO SEE IN THE WESTERHOF BOYS IN THOSE DAYS.

Every game is very important and its not suprising that NOOJ is talking tough, he said the same thing over the two games we played in the qualifiers and at the end AMODU's team got 4 points out of a possible 6 from the MAMBAS.

Today, we shall see who is the master tactician between AMODU and NOOJ, we shall see who is stronger between SE and the SNAKES. 90 minutes separates both sides. NO SHAKING

You will always come here and boast as if football is played with mouth. Let's wait and see if our boys can improve on their game before we start to boast. I wish them all the luck in this world. They will need it.

ken gadaffi: 2010-01-20 10:06

@garvey, it appears you havent been reading most of the comments on KON. If you do, i am sure you would have notice the number of people who have openly written that they want the team to lose. Just take a look at @david comment just above my innitial post and you will understand me better.

One thing is to be pessimistic about your team going into a game but another thing is to say openly that you want your country to lose just because you want the coach fired. This to me is treasonable felony. The highest level of unpatriotic act.

@Ken gadaffi - You know I do read most of the comments and can tell you that most of the people who write such things do not really mean what they write. No Nigerian in his right senses will want the Eagles to lose because of Amodu. Even the nff that hired Amodu knows that the Eagles have not been playing well under Amodu and are not happy. A lot of Nigerian football fans are also not happy about what the Eagles have been playing so far. Why dont you just ignore such people. It's a waste of time joining words with such people like I will not like to join words with the like of Frank who claim to be the original.

this is amodus chance to step up and be counted. i believe no nigerian is shouting for amodus head for selfish reasons. its a shame that we have had to endure the same kind of eagles for four years. nigerians are desparate for a change in the super eagles. these days we watch the eagles perched on the edges of our collective seats. i think this is a great opportunity for amodu to seize his dressing room and make us smile again. i believe that true football fans seeing a genuine change in the super eagles will not be against amodus continued stay. we should all try and bottle our negativity till after todays game. let us give our boys and amodu one last chance to play like the eagles were known for.

David or what ever you call your self, In the bible days David win Goliat with just a stone, I doubt if you have the same thoughts and faith as DAVID of the bible Yawaa man or boy, You need some prayers to start thinking like a normal man, People with your kind of fait thoughts never do well in whatever their doing because fears and weakness and lack of fait always end you to pit of shames and disgress, After the match I will write another message to share the good news with you that Nigeria finaly win, The reason why I said that Nigeria will win is because of all the coach have just said, Boosting is very very bad because when you boost God bring you down to the pit and allow people you think your better than to overcome you, I like Amudu for one thing he never boost just been calm and doing all he can, this is better than boosting before victory nonsense
I still for God to remove all the spirite of feliures in you DAVID and furnish you with lots of wisdom and power of been strong and fight with faith and hope of victory at the end Amen

martins,kalu uche/yakubu,nsofor
in this match,SE definitely need pace and stamina to win this match

Shijo: 2010-01-20 12:18

Nooij is obviously playing mind games. He knows that no matter how good a team is, when they are unsettled, then they are vulnerable. The SE are very unsettled now, more so with the unfortunate and ill-timed rumor of Amodu's sack.

One thing about these players is that, you never know what to expect with them. So, I am watching today's match with no expectations whatsoever. However, if the unthinkable happens, and Nigeria fails to beat Moz, (not even draw), then let all the "faithful", Pro Amodu forumites just honorably suspend themselves from this forum. I sign out now until after the match.......

AMODU'S IMINENT SACK: A CASE OF NINE STICHES
If eventually coach amodu is sacked, a stitch in time would have saved all the worries that will follow that decision.
Many persons saw the drama unfolding today viz-a-viz SE performance before the nations cup, we called for change...we were moral enough to ask Amodu to be retained while a Class A or B TA is hired for the SE. Many ppl out of sentiments majorly and lack of understanding and vision defended 'AMODU STAYS' with reasons ranging from 'his impeccable records' to the immorality of 'not letting him eat where he has labored'.
I wondered at how unseeing our ppl could be.
They failed to see that those records were not gotten from strong oppositions and competitions like Egypt or Tunisia. They didn't know the difference btw dancing to the tune of mortar and pestle and that of dancing in a big market square. Now they know, even if they can pretend not to be seeing.
As for letting him 'eat' where he labored, Nigerians are willing to give him any amount of money to 'eat' if that will do, so they can have a better team. We didn't need to compensate him at the expense of majority and posterity. But NFF and their supporters don’t know this. They choose to extend this sole proprietary manner of ruling Nigeria into football and don't give a damn how ppl feel about it.
Whatever you (NFF) chose (or are compelled) to do now, please avoid the following:

1. Do not appoint a coach to go and fail in order to vindicate you like it happened with U20 in Egypt. I don't believe Noij is the answer. M'bque has its own serious tactical deficiency, particularly in the attack. SiaSia/Kalika is even a better option than NOIj.

2. Kindly consider resigning after your tenure expires. Give Room for Administrators with more professionalism to handle our sports. Politicizing it has been our problem - the source of all the rut we see.

3. Pay Amodu all his entitlements plus 'inconvenience allowance' for all he has been thru. He is not a bad coach, just that the dance is too strong for his best.

Regards to all Pro Amodu forumites. The truth just has to be told and accepted for us to advance as a nation. Stay tuned for part II.

Austin: 2010-01-20 13:02

@David, What you have advocated is confusion for the SE. There is s cycle for appointing coaches and building teams. If we make the mistake of sacking Amodu now, will we be patient for another 4 years for the new person to BUILD a TEAM? And that is after failing woefully at the next WC in SA, becuase he will have to istill his philosphy on the players before the WC, and what time will he have? For him to fail at the next ANC in 2012 and then build for WC 2014? I bet that we will not be that patient. I maintain that Amodu should remain even after the ANC and take the team to the WC. After that we can start rebuilding the SE with Siasia, whom we have been subliminally "grooming" for that assignment. And then we must be willing to give him 4 years minimum to succeed.

Prof.: 2010-01-20 13:09

Recent research at the Faculty of Technology, University of Mkar, Gboko, Benue State, Nigeria, has shown that the man called Billion is actually Karimu Amodu, Coach Shuaibu's younger brother who is here to defend his brother's job. The team of Researchers also confirmed that a lot of new names appearing here and defending Amodu are all ficticious. These people are actually Billion and Frank (aka Original), masquerading as other people. The Researchers amployed Internet Input Magnetic Resonance Technology (A novel technology recently developed at the University).

Forumites, ignore them. They will soon meet their waterloo! Up Mozambique, Up Maart Nooij, Up Netherlands! Goede Dag (Dutch Language)!

Garvey: 2010-01-20 13:14

@Collins - Pardon David by ignoring some part of his comments. He probably have never played football. There is no need to start building a new team all the time. What we need to do is to always invite good, young and hungry boys to the national team to train along the big boys and test them in friendly matches and see how they cope. By doing so we will always have young boys who have been tested on the big stage to take over from the big boys. As most Forumites have posted in the last few days the problem we have with the Eagles is not only Amodu. It has to do with the whole system. The performance of the Eagles so far is a reflection of the state of the Nigerian Nation.

The word.: 2010-01-20 13:28

In Nigeria they say we have over 150 million vociferous coaches.

Well... take out the children, many women, and a few men who do not follow football and you end up with a figure of about 55 million coaches.

That's more that the populations of Mozambique, Benin and Ghana put together.

A tough, demanding lot, loving and unforgiving in equal measure depending on the results you get.

I am one of them, which is why I am advising Amodu on the right team selection today against Mozambique. AND IF AMODU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL... he would listen to me!!!

I think Nigeria will beat Mozambique, not as a Nigerian fan, but as a fan of the African game.

The Super Eagles have too much firepower and experience, which would be valuable at a crunch time like this, compared to the Mambas.

But Amodu needs to select right, and that is why going my way is the best way.

No body dey fear Nigeria again for Africa. Small time, even Chad sef go say dem go beat us. Na condition make crayfish to bend.

@Tony, so you expected Ghana people to complain when their team is currently punching above their weight? Do you honestly think that the Nigerian fans don't have any basis to complain? I think it is high time we stopped complaining about the complaints and do something about the complaints.

We know we will beat Mozambique today but for crying out loud, we want a team we can be proud of whether they win or lose. The former Green Eagles got the name "super" after the 1988 nations cup in Morocco and they did not even win the cup. Everybody was proud of their performance and they got a hero's welcome when they returned. That is all we ask from our team. If we lose, let it not be as a result of not trying enough.

I just hope that Amodu will break his record today of not scoring more than one goal in any match at the nations cup. Let us see a vibrant Super Eagles that will "fly like the butterfly and sting like the bee". This is the only way to stop the criticism and not by trying to gag people.
