Malawi make formal complaint

Posted: 2010-01-15 08:19

Malawi have made a formal complaint after claiming they were denied a training ground for two days leading up to Thursday’s African Nations Cup finals match with hosts Angola in Luanda.

Coach Kinnah Phiri said a protest had been handed to the tournament organisers, the Confederation of African Football.

“We find it very strange that in this competition a team cannot be found a ground to train,” he said after the 2-0 loss in the Group A match against the hosts.

“We are very disappointed because we feel that either the organising committee or the Angolan federation were working towards pushing Angola in the quarterfinals.

“Three times we went to a ground and found others using the pitch. We asked them to leave but they refused. We didn’t have a session over the last two days before the game.”

Malawi, who beat Algeria 3-0 in their opening match, are second in the standings and will likely qualify for the quarterfinals if they beat Mali in their last game in Cabinda on Monday.

If this is true, then Angolan federation must be ashamed of their deeds, and this might have seroius impact on malawi's progress in to the competition, will Angola federation be proud of this?

It is such a shame for the federation to treat Malawi that way!The organising committee should have came to RSA to get some tips on how to host a big even like this! Confederations' cup was here and there was no issues of that nature!

When SA complains about the terrible and biased conditions away from home they labelled cry/spoiled babies.

Angola has taken leave from other African on how to cheat your to a victory.

Nothing perculiar about this incident.

shame on the angolians, thats why the president haa to come cos it was a guranteed win. poor malawi. but you played very well & I'm convinced that since you won't be playing the hosters who are good in cheating in your next game you are going to win. good luck guys make us the southern hempesphere proud.

Its a shame for Angola to treat the poor Malawi team. This will catch up with them later on in the tournament.

If they did it shame on them and also if they managed to beat malawi using that trick, shame on them and they should also do that to Algeria, coz winning against Malawi didnt give them the ticket to the last 8,Malawi can still qualify by beating Mali and or even a draw can see them through, that is if Angola loose by 2 goals and above so still Angola has a mountain to climp considering the fact that Algeria has a lot to play for.GOD'S CASE, NO APEAL!!!!!!!!!!!
