There were some interesting results in the National First Division, especially in the Inland Stream where mid-table Witbank Spurs beat log leaders African Warriors 2-0 and last-placed Winners Park grabbed a lifeline by overcoming United FC 1-0.

And there was finally a win for Dynamos who have been out of form of late but managed a 1-0 victory over Batau FC at a steaming Nkowa-Nkowa Stadium.

Thanks to goals by strikers Ralph Matema and Doctor Skhosana, Spurs now find themselves just a point behind third-placed Dynamos and within striking distance of Warriors, while Winners’ fans certainly appreciate Adebayo Abayomi’s valuable goal, which lifts the Believers a little closer to AmaTuks and the other strugglers.

The Dynamos-Batau clash was full of goalmouth action, but the ball was either blasted over the bar, furiously defended or hit the woodwork.

Although there were almost forty shots at goal, the only successful strike came from the penalty spot in the second half when Linos Chalwe easily beat Batau’s new goalkeeper Brenden Wardle.

In the Coastal Stream, Nathi Lions maintained their two-point lead at the top of the tree with a sensational 4-3 win over Sergio dos Santos’ relegation threatened Ikapa Sporting at Ikamva.

The evergreen Songwe Chalwe notched Lions’ winner after Nhlanhla Mncube had bagged his brace and Senzo Mkhwanazi the team’s opener – giving the Durban outfit a good chance of reaching the Play-offs.

However, Bay United are hot on their heels after recording a 2-1 home win over Vasco da Gama who have now slumped to third spot.

Siyabonga Nontshinga and Pontsho Moloi secured Bay’s points while Omar Hendricks netted Vasco’s lone goal.

On Sunday, Hanover Park picked up a vital point after holding Carara Kicks to a goalless draw at Blue Downs, while Thanda Royal Zulu recorded their fourth straight win in a row - defeating FC Cape Town 2-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium.

Sammy Troughton’s Warriors are now just three points behind Vasco with 15 points to fight for so the next few weeks will be crucial.

Lucky Mzizi and Sifiso Sithole notched Zulu’s goals – leaving Johnny Ferreira’s team in dire straights as the fight to avoid the drop with Ikapa and Hanover going down to the wire!
