Moroka Swallows beat Free State Stars 2-1 in an Absa Premiership clash at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Swallows goals were scored by Lungisani Ndlela and Auguston Leonard while Ayanda Gcaba scored for Free State.
Both teams started the game at a blistering pace.
The game was exciting with the ball moving from one end of the pitch to the other, but it was a game of mixed fortunes as they squandered a lot of chances.
However Ndlela made up for the misses when he tapped in a cross from Mfundo Shumana in the 30th minute to give Swallows a 1-0 lead.
The goal sparked the two teams into more action as they threw everything into the game but enjoying the home ground advantage, Swallows had a slight edge over their opponents.
Credit must also go to the two goalkeepers, Swallows; Greg Etafia and Free State Stars’ Kennedy Mweene, who pulled of class saves during the game.
Stars finally got the equaliser when Gcaba out-jumped the Swallows defence to connect Kingston Nkhatha’s corner to put his side on level terms in the 77th minute.
But their joy was short lived when after defence splitting pass, debutante Auguston Leornard put Swallows ahead for the second time to score his first goal for Moroka Swallows in the 82nd minute.
Igesund might have thought his charges would change the situation but even the five minutes added time could not help and Ela Koto failed to stop the Birds’ dominance.
