Dladla wins it for Chiefs

Posted: 16 December 2009 Time: 21:33

Josta Dladla's injury time header ensured Kaizer Chiefs a 2-1 win over Ajax Cape Town at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs had taken an early lead through Thabang Rooi, but Diyo Sibisi’s goal just before the half-time break ensured an interesting second half.

Ajax keeper Hans Vonk had singlehandedly kept his team in the game, making no less than eight magnificent stops in the second half.

Amakhosi struck early on – David Mathebula raced onto a quickly-taken free-kick and sent in a cross to the far post where Rooi came sliding in to bundle the ball over the line in the eighth minute.

Chiefs could have extended their lead in the 22nd minute when Zhaimu Jambo played a floated ball to set up Siphiwe Tshabalala, who managed to defy the Ajax offside trap, but Vonk came out tops in a one-on-one situation.

As the loose ball bobbled around, Ajax defender Derek Decamps managed to block Nkosinathi Nhleko’s powerful shot.

Soon afterwards Chiefs were on the attack again; on this occasion Hans Vonk was forced into tipping Abia Nale’s drive at around for a corner-kick.

Vonk was forced into two more saves from Nhleko in the 35th minute. Four minutes later he got a hand to the Chiefs striker’s close-range shot at goal. His defence failed to clear the danger and Nale came sliding in, but his effort was deflected onto the crossbar.

But then Ajax got an unlikely equaliser. George Maluleka swung the ball perfectly for Nathan Paulse, who rose up and headed downwards. Itumeleng Khune could only block the ball, which fell to Sibisi to fire home.

Vonk was Ajax’s saviour in the second half and was at his best again when Mandla Masango tested him with a shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area in the 72nd minute, which saw the veteran keeper dive backwards to push it out for a corner.

Then in the 75th minute he again came up trumps: first up he made a full-length dive to get a hand to Dladla’s shot, before getting to his feet quickly to block Nale’s blast towards goal.

With Chiefs fans streaming out of the Loftus Stadium, the Amakhosi gave them reason to come streaming back in as they scored an injury-time winner.

Ajax were unable to clear a corner and the ball eventually came to Wayne Matle, whose floated cross was headed past Vonk by Dladla.

Point of correction on Kaizer's mistake. .There are now 3 big teams in South Africa. . .not Pirates and Chiefs. . .nope, Chiefs, Supersport and Sundowns. . .this league is gonna be interesting.

Hope there wo'nt be too much noise from your side ahead of the storm! because this result changes very little.... Even if i-Mbabalanyane drew, they still were gonna occupy the same spot on the log above Bucs.

Even if by some wizardry or human error as the norm, Downs will still be the best bet to halt the Sion 'march'.
Well done Arrows and the refferee for the correct penalty... Let`s rather jointly celebrate that, and leave Downs out of it...`Cause izokwenzela weekend!

Mh! All Stars team... yeah right! Versus All Cheaps and Recyclables F.C. Lol!

Guys lets be realistic Chiefs are far from this race, Sundowns is the main threat to Supersport. That was a lucky escape for Chiefs as Ajax went to sleep. Sat's match is key whoever wins it which I fancy Sundowns. Chiefs are in the same position that Pirates were last season nowhere close to the League but all the baseless noise about winning the League. Once and Always
