Aces fold in Free State

Posted: 12 December 2009 Time: 17:39

Mpumalanga Black Aces’ hopes of moving out of the relegation zone were put on ice when they lost 2-0 to Free State Stars at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.

Aleni Lebyane continues his good form with the opening goal, before substitute Saitjheni Tsotetsi made sure of the points just past the hour-mark with a second goal.

Stars started well and Tebelo Mofokeng had two efforts inside the first five minutes before Lebyane headed home after Paulus Masehe had seen his initial attempt blocked Godfrey Nobula.

Aces mounted their first attack of any substance in the 30th minute, but Lindokuhle Mbatha scuffed his shot wide. The visitors gradually grew in confidence and seven minutes later Ayanda Gcaba had a decent sight of goal, but his shot skidded wide of goal.

Aces made two changes at the start of the second half, introducing veteran striker Gilbert Mushangazhike and Jeffrey Makoti in place of Setjaba Muso and Sibusiso Themba.

It was Stars though, who created the second half’s first scoring opportunity, but Lebyane could only shoot straight at Oscar Ramogoadi. It was the striker’s last significant act of the game as he was soon replaced by Saitjheni Tsotetsi.

And the substitute doubled Ea Lla Koto’s lead 10 minutes later, striking a superb long-range shot that nestled in the top left corner.

With just under 30 minutes left, they were prepared to sit back and try hit Aces on the break. However, there were no further notable goalmouth incidents at either end of the pitch
