The ball a tragedy – Vonk

The ball a tragedy – Vonk

Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Hans Vonk, who has 43 caps for Bafana Bafana, has described the ball to be used at the World Cup as a “tragedy” in an interview with Dutch football publication Voetbal International.

Vonk has revealed his disdain for the World Cup ball, dubbed ‘Jabulani’, which will be used in the 64 games at the tournament.

“It is claimed the ball holds its line exactly, but in reality it veers off in all directions,” he lamented. “The ball is lighter and there seems to be more plastic used than previously.

"It is a tragedy for goalkeepers."

But the ball is not the only issue that will trouble goalkeepers, Vonk claims.

He believes that playing at altitude could cause some goalkeepers chronic problems, especially as some of the stadiums are at lower levels.

“Between the stadiums in Cape Town and Johannesburg, there is a 1,696-metre altitude change,” he said. “If you need your goalkeeper in the World Cup, you should examine the geographical circumstances.”

strew you Vonk, who care about your negativity, we don't need your pathetic comments here, this is the very same person who spent most of his years in Netherlands where africans are still seen as baboons, the same guy who did not want to stay in Bloem when Celtic wanted him, nothing positive will come from africa in his eyes, if this ball was disgned in Europe he would have sung praises for it, now that its an african disgn he talks his balls, go to hell Vonk nxeeeeeeee!!!!!!

The world cup ball was made here in the UK by Loughborough University in partnership with Adidas. The ball was tested (at least I saw it once) at the technical centre and I believe the Chelsea goal keeper Petr Cech approved the ball two weeks ago. He said it was perfect. I think Mr. Vonk needs to check his facts and give intelligent views based on research. South Africa has hosted many events and I have not heard anything close to what Mr. Vonk is suggesting with regards to altitude.

I'm now convinced that most non-Africans in this country are hell-bent to make negative comments about SA ahead of the World Cup. Are you bitter that you're not going to be part of Bafana, not even in the technical team

Guys you are too emotional. Why this inferiority complex? Vonk said nothing racist at all.1) In the last world cups, all the keepers have complained about balls e.g. the speed, grip etc. There was nothing wrong about it. 2)Altitude isknown to be a factor in football e.g. the keepers were complainingduring the confed cup Julio Ceasar for one complained that the ball was moving too fast.3) Bolivia has a high altitude so nations should use geography to their advantage that is why many people are thinking an African team can win the world cup. there are few teams that hve won the world come outside their continent. 3) Last. vonk is one of the last people that can be called racist, a person that honoured almost all of the Bafana games, left plush Holland at his peak for SA. After having problems with a coach left for Europe again (Ajax) and came back after coach left. 4.)Your racist are Benni and Lucas Radebe who have undermined the nation in so many ways in the past. 5.) Your racists are also the media that has not given people like Vonk the glory he deserves as one of if not the best SA goalkeeper in history

surprising comments from Vonk, usually only nike & puma goalkeepers complain about new footballs that adidas produce. Who cares what goalkeepers think, haven't heard too many strikers complaining about the ball, do we want goals in the World Cup or boring draws?
