Wits' misery continues

Posted: 5 December 2009 Time: 18:14

Ajax Cape town earned a hard fought 2-0 victory over struggling Bidvest Wits in an Absa Premiership clash at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ajax’s goals were scored by George Maluleka and Diyo Sibisi in the 30th and 70th minutes respectively.

After a good start to the season, Wits are slowly dropping down away from the top of the League, according to their reputation.

The Students went into this game without a win in ten matches and have only picked up four points during that run.

Sifiso Myeni was a constant thorn in Ajax’s side. At one stage, he zoomed past the Urban Warriors’ defence but instead of taking a shot at goal the midfielder opted to pass the ball to Mark Haskins, who wasted the ball, which did not go well with Wits coach Roger de Sa.

Ajax broke the ice in the 30th minute, when Maluleke played a brilliant one-two with Sifiso Vilakazi before beating an advancing Darren Keet to give his side their much needed lead.

Fabricio Rodrigues could have done better in the 45th minute to put his side on level terms, but after receiving a pass from Calvin Kadi, the Brazilian blasted his shot over the bar and the status quo remained the same at half time.

The introduction of Clifford Ngobeni and Dipsy Selolwane in the second half galvanised the coastal side, but they were disappointed by poor finishing.

On 70 minutes, Sibisi pounced on the ball from outside the Wits danger area, striking it with so much power that it left Darren Keet with the formality of picking up the ball at the back of the net in the 70th minute.

Wits also had their fair share of chances in the second half, but were disappointed by impatience in front of goal, and frustrated by the Ajax defence led by Derek Decamps and Dennis Ivanovs.
