Moroka Swallows midfielder Igor Alves has again been sidelined after picking up yet another knee injury that will force him out of action for the remainder of the League season.
Alves was carried off the pitch last Wednesday, just 10 minutes after scoring Swallows’ equaliser against Mpumalanga Black Aces. He hurt his knee while taking a free-kick.
“What happened was that I had clashed with the Aces keeper moments before taking the free-kick,” he tells KickOff.com. “I had felt a bit of pain, but since I had just come on as a substitute and had scored a goal, I wanted to continue with the game. Then, as I was taking the free-kick, I applied a lot of power, which aggravated the pain.
“I have been told by the doctors that my knee requires surgery as the meniscus is damaged. The worst thing about this injury is that the doctors have told me that I will out for the next two to three months, by which time the season will be over.”
While the latest injury is on his right knee, Alves had yet another injury on his left knee last season, which kept him out for the first six months of last season.
“I am sad that I have been disrupted again by injury, especially as this one comes at a time when I was regaining form.”
