There was a shock result in the NFD Inland Stream this weekend when lowly University of Pretoria defeated top-of-the-table Dynamos 2-1, while in the Coastal Stream; Thanda Royal Zulu are in free fall after yet another loss.
Tuks’ victory on Friday night at the Absa Stadium lifts Steve Barker’s side to 15 points, eight behind new leaders, Black Leopards who downed Witbank Spurs 3-0 at home on Saturday.
The match between big-spending United FC and rock-bottom Winners Park ended all square at 1-1 with Sibusiso Nhlapo netting Park’s goal and Patrick Twala getting his name on United’s score sheet.
And on Sunday, African Warriors, with goals from Aaron Lepele and Bulelani Matross beat Batau FC 2-1, which puts them on the same number of points as Dynamos – just two behind Leopards.
At the coast, Sergio dos Santos’ Ikapa Sporting, thanks to a brace by Danian Warley and a single strike from Jonathan Fransman took Sammy Troughton’s Thanda apart to the tune of 3-1 – leaving the former PSL side second bottom after Carara Kicks defeated Hanover 2-1 at home.
Reason Chiloane scored for Thanda who now face a tough battle to avoid the drop as many of the other teams in their division are finally finding form.
Log leaders Bay United and FC Cape Town played to a goalless draw at Blue Downs and Vasco, for whom Keenin Lesch was on target, held second-placed Nathi Lions to a 1-1 draw in KZN.
However, the talking point was a Cape Town-based referee who awarded both teams a penalty, Vasco very early in the match and Nathi about five minutes from time – a decision, which was described as ‘diabolical’ by a Da Gama official.
And Nathi Maphumulo the owner of the Durban outfit also had a gripe against the man with the whistle querying why he yellow-carded three of his players – all of whom were interestingly already sitting with two cards each prior to the encounter.
“It’s unbelievable,” Maphumulo told KickOff.com “How on earth did the ref know to give a third yellow to each of them?
“I thought our penalty was genuine, but didn’t see theirs,” he adds.
With these results, Bay remains two points ahead of Lions, while Vasco are breathing down their necks just a point behind.
