Ncobo resigned recently amid claims by former PSL referee Jonas Nhlapho that Ncobo had asked him for incriminating match-fixing information on Pirates.
Nhlapho also alleges that Ncobo promised him that he would make him Referee of the Year if he could reveal referees and clubs that are involved in match fixing, make sure he earns between R20 000 and R25 000 monthly and promised that he would sit on the referees’ panel.
Ncobo subsequently went into voluntary leave and then resigned recently after an inconclusive polygraph test as the former GM attempted to clear his name.
Ncobo insists Nhlapho’s allegations are baseless, that for instance, it is not an individual decision to decide on the Referee of the Season as it is the match commissioners that allocate points in every match based on a referee’s performance on the day and at the end of the season, the referee with the most points wins the award.
Today he also tells The Star’s supplement Shoot that he has a 212-page match-fixing dossier signed by referees that implicates club officials.
However, he says, claims that he was out to get Pirates are not true.
“Interestingly, in the entire body of information I have there is nothing implicating Pirates,” he says.
Safa has apparently assured Ncobo that they are serious about taking decisive action against the culprits and he is therefore now willing to give share his information with them after the assurance was made.
“I have agreed to meet them so we can compare notes on what they have and what I have,” Ncobo says.
He also says he has put copies in different locations, because “some of the details Ncobo would not mention are the kind of stuff that people can get killed for,” the newspaper writes.
But Ncobo is not fazed, “I will be the happiest corpse knowing that I died fighting against corruption,” he adds.
