Moroka Swallows’ Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma is confident he will make the Chipolopolo squad to face Tunisia, Cameroon and Gabon in the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
The Dube Birds bustling hit man, who was called up for the friendly against North Korea last weekend but missed it due to club commitments, says he is working hard on his game.
The 25-year-old played a starring role in his club’s 3-1 demolition of Golden Arrows scoring a brace and having a hand in the third goal. Now feels that his hard work at club level will see him make the Chipolopolo squad in January.
“I am confident that I will be part of the squad that goes to Angola because I have been working hard. I have to play as many games for my club as I can so that I can to be there.”
The former England, Portugal and Turkey-based striker contended that injuries set his career back but added that he was looking to get back to his usual devastating form that saw lift the PSL’s top scorer award while he was at Kaizer Chiefs.
“I haven’t set myself a goal target for the season, I just want to try and score in every game I play in. The coach is encouraging us to work hard and the more you work hard the more you are going to be in the team.”
Mbesuma who voted Man of the Match after Swallows beat Arrows 3-1 at the weekend acknowledged that Zambia had been drawn in a difficult group at the AFCON but is confident that they will do well.
