SuperSport break Chiefs hearts

Posted: 25 November 2009 Time: 21:45

SuperSport United produced a sterling second half performance to beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 at the Loftus Stadium.

The first half was a dreary affair and fans were frustrated as the star men in either team came off injured. First it was Kaizer Motaung Junior who replaced Knowledge Musona, who came off in the ninth minute after initially coming off for treatment on his knee.

He was soon followed by Siyabonga Nkosi, who was replaced by Jabulani Maluleke, who later on became the thorn in Chiefs’ defence.

The two teams applied cautious tactics for the better part of the first half. It was only late in the half that the game produced its best chance.

In the 33rd minute, Chiefs striker Nkosinathi Nhleko received a great through ball from Motaung Junior in the box, but with Emille Baron to beat in SuperSport’s goal, Nhleko took a tame shot and the former Chiefs keeper was alert as he used his left hand to block the ball, but it fell kindly to Siphiwe Tshabalala, but the latter dilly-dallied and Baron blocked his way.

The second half started on a low note and things went from bad to worse as the lights went off temporarily, but as soon as they were back on, SuperSport looked like a team that had used the break more cleverly.

Abia Nale, who had come in for Tshabalala, could have put Chiefs in the lead in the 61st minute, but his low shot was blocked by the in-form Baron, who was named man of the match.

However, soon after that it was SuperSport dictating terms. Matsatsantsa took the lead in the 66th minute through Glen Salmon, who had received a perfect cross from Maluleke. Salmon used his thigh to sneak in the ball.

Three minutes later, it was Maluleke who was celebrating. He received a brilliant defence-splitting pass from Anthony Laffor and he controlled, then smashed it to Bartman’s right.

Though Vladimir Vermezovic made another change when he brought in Mthokozisi Yende for Josta Dladla late in the second half, it was clear Matsatsantsa were in the driving seat and deservedly walked away with the three points.

Isn't interesting that in tow successive matches, legitimate goals were disallowed against Chiefs' opposition? It makes me very, very curious. As for Supersport, they have proven yet again and for the umpteenth time, that they are, indeed, championship material. I do not see anyone catching them, including Ajax, Santos, Pirates, Sundowns and Chiefs. Well done, Supersport!

By the way, Letsholonyane and comapny must be kicking themselves for "forgetting" the fair play ethos. They tried to get a goal while Daine Klate was injured, lost possession and were disposessed, only for SS to break and get a goal from their own unfair play.

I thought this forum would be overflowing with comments, judging by the prematch comments in the very same forum. Anyway, well done SSU. By the way, why was that SSU goal disallowed.

I would like to hear a chiefs fan saying: " I concede, SSU are the best in SA football".

I neva thought i'd live to see the day Broken Fan cry&complain about his beloved pathetic team!!!The Pretoria Soccer League Rocks!!!It's such a pity that these so called Soweto giants have deteriorated to the extent that it's no joke anymore. Before every game they full themselves that they'll win by this n that margin but come match day they end up making flimsy excuses. But i must admit the Refs were pathetic on both games, but that didn't either team.

WONDER, CHIEFS played bad last night, period! Well done to SSU and Sundowns, they deserved their famous WINS. The writting is clear: The league is haeding to PTA, SSU! Only Sundowns can challenge them.

People mark my WORDS: Chiefs will NEVER beat SSU as long as Thomas Madigage (and his Zion water) is still at SSU. This LEKGANYANE (the ZCC Chief)guy know his STORY, sorry if I offend any ZCC member.

If I were to find out what went wrong with my team, then I'll be making my heart very sore. SSP played well aswell as chiefs but only the team that took their chances won
