AmaZulu win again

AmaZulu continued their climb away from the danger zone of the Absa Premiership when they defeated Platinum Stars 2-1 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Sibusiso Hadebe and Marc van Heerden were on target for Usuthu, while Bradley Grobler scored Stars’ consolation goal.

Just past the midway point of the first half van Heerden found himself in a scoring position in the penalty area but the left-wingback’s close-range header failed to find the target.

The missed opportunities kept racking up for Usuthu, as striker Brad Ritson fired over the bar from a good scoring position in the 31st minute and midfielder Litha Ngxabi saw his effort parried to safety by Kapini in the 37th.

Usuthu deservedly took the lead on 65 minutes when Hadebe fired home from within the penalty area after a great set-up play by Nhlanhla Zwane.

And just five minutes later van Heerden doubled the home side’s lead by firing the ball into the back of the net after a clever pass from substitute Ayanda Dlamini.

Stars pulled one back late on through substitute Brad Grobler but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation for the visiting side.
