There was a flurry of goals in the NFD Coastal Steam, where rock bottom Hanover Park shocked log leaders Vasco da Gama 2-1, FC Cape Town and Carara Kicks played to a seven-goal thriller and Nathi Lions lambasted Thanda Royal Zulu 3-0.
In their last match, an improving Hanover grabbed a lifeline by beating Thanda Royal Zulu and on Saturday at Parow Park they significantly again rose to the occasion by overpowering Carlos das Neves’ highflying team 2-1.
Errol Dicks’ FC Cape Town are another team on a role, at Blue Downs they scored a remarkable 4-3 win over Kicks which lifts them well clear of the drop zone.
Nathi Lions leapfrogged Vasco after giving Sammy Troughton’s charges a good run for their money and are now in the important second spot just two points behind Bay United who defeated Ikapa Sporting 1-0 in Port Elizabeth, thanks to a Vincent Khumalo goal.
With these results, Park sit just a point behind Sergio dos Santos’ Ikapa - as the battle to avoid the drop intensifies!
Interestingly, the four Coastal games produced fourteen goals and on Sunday, there was also lots of goalmouth action in the Inland Stream as Dynamos knocked Black Leopards off their pedestal with a 2-1 victory at the Nkowa-Nkowa Stadium, while United FC beat Batau FC 3-2 in their humdinger encounter.
Earlier, African Warriors grabbed three vital points when Bulelani Matross netted a late 95th minute goal against University of Pretoria at the Charles Mopeli Stadium, which lifts them within striking distance of the top - but leaves Steve Barker’s side second from bottom!
Witbank Spurs and struggling Winners Park will have to replay their fixture after torrential rains caused havoc at the Ackerville Stadium.
The two sides did start their encounter on Saturday but after ten minutes and with the score at 0-0, the referee decided to stop proceedings.
