Amodu to meet Technical Committee

Posted: 2009-11-22 19:41

Super Eagles Shuaibu Amodu, just back from the 2010 African Nations Cup Draw in Angola, will on Tuesday lead his technical crew to a meeting with the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja.

Amodu, who has for the third time qualified Nigeria for the World Cup, will discuss his Angola 2010 Nations Cup programme with the technical committee after the Eagles were paired with reigning champions Egypt, Mozambique and Benin Republic in Group C of the tournament that takes place January 10-31.

Amodu qualified Nigeria for the 2002 World Cup finals in Korea and Japanm but was replaced months to the finals. He also qualified the Supers Eagles for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2006, but did not lead the team to the finals in Brazil.

Amodu said after the draw at the Talatona Convention Centre in Luanda on Friday that he has designed a programme which he believes will see the Eagles fully prepared for the competition, which will serve as a big test for their World Cup outing in the summer.

Nigeria play Egypt on January 12 and then tackle Benin Republic on January 16 in Benguela, before flying to Lubango to take on Mozambique four days later in the group phase.

Tuesday´s meeting will also have assistant coaches Daniel Amokachi and Fatai Amoo, as well as goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu in attendance.

Glad we are on course with our preparations. And seems like eagles are spending less time on the bench,Kanu played for the whole match duration, Malaga is using 4-5-1 formation, Victor Obinna Nsofor is the lone striker.

“Whenever Nigeria qualifies, I am happy,” says Mr Jack Warner, FIFA Vice President, “but today they qualified for the World Cup in the worst match I have ever seen them play.” Mr Warner was speaking to media during a reception organised at the residence of the Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Jeff Hart.

Mr Warner disclosed that he was sad at the standard of play displayed by the Super Eagles, adding, “I hope that having qualified, they will be able to improve themselves in time for the 2010 [World Cup in South Africa].” He congratulated all Nigerians whom, he said, view football as a religion, an described the country as being ‘on a high’. “Having qualified for the World Cup and playing in the finals of the Under-17, what else can Nigerians hope for?” he enthused.

The FIFA Vice President, who arrived the country on Friday night for the Under-17 finals at the National Stadium, Abuja, today, spoke on the organisation of the Under-17 tournament, which he said is “not first class, but nothing major went wrong.”

Present at the reception was the Chief Executive Officer of the Football Federation of Australia, Mr Ben Buckley, who is mobilising support for Australia’s bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

i get really frustrated knowing that da NFF are not gettin a technical adviser for this skumm displayd up here. do we hav to wait until we get booted out of nations cup at the group stages or QTR finals for the NFF to decide we need a foreign technical adviser. i am not sayin we sack him but provide him and da country an experienced coach. Ok now da word is spreading that we cant get MANCINI OR HIDDINK, whut happened to MARCO VAN BASTEN, JURGEN KLINNSMAN,GERARD HOULLIER ETC. these guyz hav been tested especially VAN BASTEN AND HOULLIER. If a new technical adviser takes charge with amodu as coach we will b good 2 BANG TEAMS UP. But it looks like NFF r gettin ****Y BCUZ DEY MAN QUALIFIED US AGAINST ALL ODDS. We await u guys to fold wen its 2 late.

@Nelson u have no right to tell me that my post is getting ridiculous we all have our views u idot and that is mine so dont come around here saying rubbish cuz i see u're on physcologically embattled fellow..........nonsense

Leonard: 2009-11-22 22:34

Pls NFF 140mln people cannot be wrong at the same time,or bring an outsider(a non Nigerian) he will say the same----our eagles under Amodu perform far below average yet the team is comprised of quality players, then tell me what's wrong? I'm not talking of technical input this time b/c I believe that even without Coach we should be able beat the likes of Kenya any day if the right players are selected but Amodu's presence is causing more harm as he is tied with the likes of Olofin...,Yakubu,E.T.C. Leave Amodu in this seat and he'll go to the World arena without Martins,Obasi,Taiwo,Ayinlla,Odiah e.t.c for reasons I don't want to guess. Lets be frank, Martins for instance gets 70000pounds a wk. & his Boss(Amodu) recieves $15000 a month(which is his standard) nothing will work. To impact the necessary discipline in the team, the boys require a boss far bigger than them in all aspects! No favouritism,no fear of the players bribbing their way and most of all a coach who knows that his reputation is at stake if he fails(not Vogts). If Hiddink fails there are others!!!

eze: 2009-11-22 22:54

@collin udo are you working for amodu?
Amodu can take nigeria to angola and world cup but believe me Amodu is not a good coach....setiment aside.

umarfaruk : 2009-11-22 22:55

my coment god will bless nigeria n bless our players.

wale: 2009-11-22 23:18

dear forumites, please let's respect and rever Amodu. He has done what 'the almighty' Hiddink cannot do. Hiddink failed to take Russia with their stars and good FA to the mundial. I listened to Amodu's interview on BBC today and i was impressed. He seems to know more than people think he knows. people say he cant read matches, but if Amodu cant read a match, cant Fatai Amoo(who i respect alot) read matches? Amokachi and Alloy Agu are more than capable. there's only one thing lacking in Super Eagles, and that is CONFIDENCE. we played France and we easily could have beaten them 3-0.
THE SOLUTION TO EAGLES PROBLEM IS NOT COACH, BUT WE FANS. WE NEED TO START SUPPORTING OUR TEAM BECAUSE ITS THE ONLY THING WE HAVE.
enough of sack him, keep him. lets support Amodu and the boys and it will be well.....
and a little request from me: CAN THE KIDNAP GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION PLEASE DO HIS JOB ON YAKUBU BEFORE THE WORLD CUP BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO SEE YAKUBU IN SA. PLS KEEP HIM FROM JUNE 5 TILL THE WORLD CUP ENDS.

intrepid: 2009-11-23 01:15

@ Wale good job, but why don't you wanna see Yakubu, this guy have been out for long, and his getting back into the game and scored a vital goal for us against Kenya. He is the one of the most experience striker in our team, a natural hit man. Pls for God's sake do not let him be kidnapped.

Good talk Wale, Amodu is much enlightened that many thinks.

Lets wait for the outcome of the technical meeting, all hands need to be on deck, I still have faith in the current technical crew.

one talks with football understanding and maturity while the other talk like a 10year old kid and is also a man ontop of man action.

Frank: 2009-11-23 10:31

@John: Firstly, that u r telling us u r in Munich is irrelevant. Secondly, Egypt and it's football authorities are sour losers and are fighting a psychological war. For u to lose confidence based on this psychological thingy says a lot about ur resolve as a person. We know Egypt might not be pushovers but for them to claim we won't pose a great threat to them is laughable no matter what state our football is in. We are ranked 3rd and 22nd in Africa and the world respectively, where's Egypt? Now, in what way is Egypt, who are not coming to the world cup having lost 3 matches,in better stead than Nigeria? Answer that and get over the fact that we have a coach in Amodu.

I think Amodu should be fired. The only reason why Nigeria qualified is that Tunisia lost to Mozambique. If it was not for that Super Eagels would be staying home come 2010.

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-23 13:29

@brokenfan if tunisia deserved to go to the world cup instead of Nigeria, why didnt they win Mozambique? Have u thought of that?

BishopofUnimaid02/03: 2009-11-23 13:44

I'm not an Amodu fan. I had always preferred Samson Siasia or Sunday Oliseh to Amodu. I don't subscribe to us having a foreign coach. If we must have a foreign coach then it must be a world class coach that must be ready to live in Nigeria and watch our local league. I doubt whether Hiddink or Van Basten or Klinsmann would want to make home in Nigeria just like Cappello in England. If this is not possible then damn the foreign coaches.

Amodu has done for us what even Clemens Westerhof couldn't do i.e. qualify Nigeria for two world cups. Let's allow Amodu to reap from where he has sown. He is yet to loose a competitive game for Nigeria. We may not be playing well now but we shall bounce back in style.

My advise to Amodu however, is to pick only fit players. We are behind you!

Nero: 2009-11-23 14:00

Well to all 9ja fans. Congratulations for our qualification and grouping. In on way or the other our view is not a west. Now is time to face the future. We called for no more foreign coach. I still believe that even if we don’t trust Amodu, we have others, but please! Please!! Please!!! This is not the time to make a change of coach. What SE lack is confidence and that is what we should give them. One or two changing’s then charge them to know that nothing les than d cup by Jan 2010 is expected of them. 9ja has invested a lot in Europe and if by 2010 we can not boost of facing the while of Africa and the world with our own coaches, the all our old foreigner base players and current ones has not prove that they learnt anything playing there. Amodu, you do not have enemies, but lovers of the game. And for us, nothing than good 9ja football and winning. If you have this, we praise you, if you fail, we woe you. That is how it goes!!!

@Ajibola, U r the most daft forumite I have ever seen. U r not just a nit-wit but also a moron, non-entity, a battered and weather-beaten yoke of oxen looking for whom to vent his frustration on. Please know that members of this forum are not the leadership of this country that has debased and reduced you to a scoundrel.
To more important issue, I don't know y we Nigerians are so forgetful. We sacked Trousier and brought a 'world cup coach' in Bora Milutinovic and was disgraced by Denmark. 2002, the same Amodu qualified us to the world cup; he was not only maligned as some pple are doing now but was also sacked and replaced with the local high chief from Modakeke and at the end of the day, we had the most disastrous outing in the world cup; just scoring a single goal.
We employed a 'high profile' coach in the person of Vogts to the last nations cup and was lucky to scale through the knockout stage before we ran out of luck. Why don't we learn to appreciate what we have for once and stop this nonsense of craving for a white-skin trained guinea pigs who are just coming to milk us dry of tax payers salary by collecting huge salaries.
I would have been more elatedif the people crying for Amodu's sack and replacing him with a whiteman could for once raise their voices and ask for whitemen to take over the leadership of this country also, may be then the country would be better to live in. to everybody that is clamouring for Amodu's sack, MAY YOU NEVER LIVE TO ENJOY THE FRUIT OF YOUR LABOUR!!! for the bible says that the husbandman should be the first partaker of his fruit and that the labourer is entitled to his wages. Please, where Amodu has sown, let no whiteman gather the harvest.
My parting shot, people like Ajibole sorry Ajibola should watch their tongues as they are better off living with cows, camels and donkeys of his type.

Do we realy need a coach now for Nations cup?

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-23 15:07

@john from Munich, the egyptian boss is only playing a mind game and its allowed in football, lets wait till Jan 12, luckily they are going to be our first opponent so they had better prepare before they know what hit them.

@Ajibola, those for our against AMODU are all in the interest of a better SE. nobody is happy seeing the super eagles play badly or wombling and fumbling, however we have to take heart that the team arent loosing which is very important character.
Last night i saw wigan lose woefully to spurs 9-1 but earlier in the season, wigan defeated league leaders chelsea 3-1. Football is a game, and on your day you can play well and on a bad day in office you can play woefully. What matters is to develop a level of consistency.... much has the SE has not been playing well, they have maintained a consistent result of not loosing, slowly they will step up to playing well and winning beautifully. All we need to do is keep supporting them, stand by the team and the technical crew, encourage them and they will surely deliver.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

Why are you pro Amodu trying to rubish Ajibola? As far i am concerned Jack warner statement is correct. I wonder what people like you will gain from not telling the truth. Our football is no longer what it is.

@charles,@danarchy4,ken gadaffi you said it all.bravo!!!

nelson4u.

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-23 16:25

@danarchy, good comments as ever, only if those who are against AMODU will see reasons with you.

I dont really think the reasons why most people are sympathetic with AMODU is just for him to reap the fruit of his labour, afterall he has a salary while working. It is also true that Coaches job is one of hire and fire so its not gonna be the first time such will happen.

The fact remains that there hasn't been any justtification for his sack by the so call antagonists. The issue most people have raised has been that of his lack of technical and tactical approach to the game. I do not agree to this outrightly, much as the eagles have not been playing fanciful football, the team hase exhibited some character of not loosing. This is a sign of a great team in the making and we just can halt that trend now by bringing in a new coach or technical adviser.
Chelsea under morinho were quite boring but they won almost everything available, ever since they started playing the good football, how many trophies have they won?
****nal remains the most entertaining side in the world yet for nearly 5 years, they have been without a major trophy.
Brazil was glamorous to watch in the 70's and 80's but they couldnt win the world cup with their array of stars untill 1994 and then 2002.
Italy won the 2006 world cup without really playing well but as rugged as ever. Good football doesnt transcend to good results always so if AMODU's approach is to get result no matter how it is gotten, we need not cry blue.

This debate will take us no where, i still maintaih that we need to start fashioning the way for the team to grow from strength to strength and changing the gaffer often or criticizing every thing about the team is not a way to achieving the desired success.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

mike: 2009-11-23 16:56

Some fools who do not know what technical ability is when they see one think they have the right to judge Amodu who has peoduced results. Amodu is working with what he has. World class coach Berti Vogts went to Ghana with the same eagles and they did not make it far. The fact remains that the eagles play like big men, they do not hustle and lack determination. This attitude is been going on for a while. Football is a simple game,it does not require a brain surgeon to manage it.The players make the game and not the coaches.
MIKE

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-23 17:48

I still dont understand why people forget how difficult it is to win a football game afterwards. The perfect way for the Super Eagles is to respond after a disappointing world cup qualifiers is to give great result, that is where you judge a big team and that is what we want them to do in Angola.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-23 17:54

mega,South Korea used Home advantage and not really the hindink factor, if you ever played football with all your fans behind you, you will know what home advantage could do sometimes.

Hindink no doubt is a good coach, but there is no assurance that contracting him now will help us win the nations cup or world cup nor even make the super eagles play well. He will need time and the time is not now.

If we need to employ a TA, i guess its better after the world cup and we start planning for 2014.

Dear Forumites does most of u write for writing sake or are u just biased ?

Amodu didn't qualify Nigeria for WC, God did, befor then ha Amodu has already lost hope n will, what technical no-how has he to do that...he was even lucky God answered our prayers at last, have u people forgotten that at a point our destiny wasn't anymore in our hands? all thank to mozambique , to God be the glory.
Most of u forumites out sheer pity, displeases millions of Nigerian football lover? how many mistakes will Amodu make before we agree he is incapable of handling such a huge task, forumite u are the mouth piece of millions of followers, why can't call a spade , a spade...why must we shy away from the truth? let Amodu give way for a better world class technical adviser who can make good use of what good material Amodu misuse's...

Forumite face the truth n say the truth...To God be the glory...

val: 2009-11-24 00:56

@Charlse, it is rather uncivil for you to use such a curse on those who want Amodu sacked, not withstanding how angry you are, am sure you are very well enlightened fellow. There are people who want him sacked, others want him retained while some want to see him helped by a technical adviser in areas where he is obviously lacking knowledge.
Amodu certainly needs help and boldness to be on the sidelines during the world cup finals in south africa.
You said Amodu should reap his labour, is he working for free as a coach?
Talking about reaping the fruits of our labour, what has been your reaction to the Nigerian workers in different sectors who are owed salaries for months who eventually go on strike? doctors-teachers-railway workers, your biblical quotation could be useful in this regard, rather than here, why so much use of such abuse on forumites because of differences in opinion, whatever happened to freedom of speech!! why so much fuss about forumites who want Amodu sacked?
This is just a case of Amesiemeka picking out Chukwudi fortune for age cheat while the executives, legislatives and judiciary at the top of the age cheat saga are by passed.
Mate, i beg take am easy, it has not gotten to such use of words.

During the last African Nations Cup, the sports commentator clearly stated that the top-3 biggest events on our planet were the FIFA World Cup, the Olympics, and the African Nations Cup. This means that these 3 events have more followers and viewers than any other thing on this planet. To many sociologists and cultural experts around the world, football is not just a sport, but rather, a religion. It was even stated in a World Cup documentary just before the 2006 World Cup that football had more followers than the followers of Christianity, Islam, and Hindu put together. Football is not just a game you watch to enjoy or hope that your nation wins one World Cup, but rather, it is a powerful platform on which to increase your economic status and national image in the eyes of the world.

According to nationsmaster.com, Nigeria is the 50th richest nation making about $37 billion dollar annually. Last year, the English Premiership League made about $3.15 billion (£1.93 billion) in revenue. So the English local football league makes about 10% of Nigeria's entire revenue assuming this statistic is true. This statistics does not even include revenue from the English national team in terms of sales from World Cup preparations, football gears, and participations in their European championships. So football in England could easily be up to 30% of Nigeria's annual revenue.

When I see Shaibu Amodu, I do not only see the only Black African man in history that qualified Nigeria to the World Cup twice and maybe any African nation, or a man that has only lost one game out of 29 national engagements (97% undefeated rate), but rather, I see a man on which Nigeria can and should build a football economy around on a global scale. Success in business is all about perception and presentation of the seller based on the understanding of the buyers. Amodu represents the secret success story of Nigerian football that Nigerians have failed woefully in perceiving and selling to the world to generate an unprecedented flow of revenue into the national treasury. The world loves to associate and affiliate itself with success, but it is the seller that must package and present that success to the world.

Amodu as a coach is 100% Nigerian. There is nothing European about him. No one can say he is a product of Chelsea or Manchester United and that is why he has been able to qualify Nigeria to the World Cup twice. Every Nigerian child saw him in BCC Lions of Gboko and on the Nigerian bench. I still remember the effect and high self-esteem I acquired in 1985, when a group of Nigerian boys, who ate eba and kpomo (cow skin) like me, went to China to beat Germany on foreign soil to win the Under-17 World Cup. This was when the world accepted Nigeria as a global football nation, but we failed to capitalize on it economically even after Pele encouraged us to. God is giving us another chance, especially at a time when the Nigerian Football League, referees and coaches are dismissed as underrated, to package and present Amodu to the world on behalf of the Nigerian Football League.

The illiteracy and short-sightedness of Nigeria as a nation has gotten so terrible that all they can see is if Amodu is technical enough to perform well at one World Cup in 2010. Will it destroy Nigerian Football if he does not? I guess Onigbinde was the best technical coach Nigeria ever produced because he took us to the World Cup, lost more than half of his games, won none, and did not even make it to the second round as it is expected of Nigeria. The truth is this; Nigerians are not a technical minded people culturally. You want technical and fanciful football; go get a European or a Brazilian coach. Nigerians play speed and power football even from an earlier age. Why waste your time passing ***** accurately when you can get to the ball before your opponents and take it from them easily? Europeans play technically because they were not raised on speed and physical strength. It is discipline based on the knowledge of one's qualities that wins tournaments not technical abilities only.

It is time for Nigeria to use Amodu to demonstrate the hidden potential and success story of the Nigerian Football League and our coaches on the world stage. Let it be known that European and South American nations do fall before African coaches at the World Cup, even if they do not win it all. Let all nations under heaven understand in their media that African coaches in the Nigerian league do qualify teams to the World Cup with 97% undefeated rates and challenge their coaches to match it. All Nigerian citizens have a role to play here. Their job is to give Amodu all the peace of mind, positive words of encouragement, and support to be successful at the African Nations Cup and the World Cup. Remember, the goal should never be to win just one world Cup in 2010, but rather, to use the success of Amodu to engrave the economic potential of the Nigerian Football League, Nigerian coaches, and Nigerian referees in the hearts and minds of the followers of the world's biggest religion (football) for the next 50 years.

dear forumites, let's shed our sword of abuses&profer solutions to our problem infested nation..Yes,we need to thank GOD 4 giving us something to rejoice about,by helping us qualify against all odds. We've rightly identified our Technical crew to being tactless&clueless when it matters but let's reason together Kenya played so well in Kasarani although Antoine Hey went awol, meaning that our players also have a part to share in the blame
@Victor,big up bro 4 ya comment,I score u 120%,u made mention of strength&speed being our strength as a footballing nation but I don't see our Super Eagles use this,Olofinjana,Yakubu&Kanu have payed their dues&we as football loving Nigerians are grateful for their services but feel they should give way 4 younger, skillful&hungry players to come into the S.E.
My advice to the NFF,is d@ since they cry of lack in the midst of millions of dollars, they should draft Siasia&Oliseh into the S.E bench,Fatai Amoo&Amokachi should b relieved of their positions b/c we need our best 4 Angola&S.A2010.
Amodu should invite players based on current form,he should deal with his ego and invite players like kalu Uche,Dickson Etuhu,Onyekachi Okonkwo,Stephano Okaka(Roma,Italy)Dennis Aogo,Okwunnwanne(2nd top scorer in belgian league, plays 4 Mourscon),Nedum Onuoha,Sunday Stephen,Peter Utaka(joint highest goalscorer in danish league),Rabiu Ibrahim,Obiora N****wo,Uche Agba,Ibenegbu etc,and then try and blend them into the S.E.b/c we need to present our best in Angola&S.A.2O10
God bless Nigeria
God bless S.E
