The final World Cup list

Qualification for the 2010 World Cup is officially over. Play-offs won, tears shed, hearts broken and dreams renewed, it’s all over.

After Uruguay withstood the Costa Rican pressure late in the evening, the final 32 teams were written into stone – though not without a fair bit of controversy.

And perhaps what’s a bit special about next year’s event is South Africa is that this list of 32 includes every single World Cup winner in the history of the event, thanks to the Uruguayan victory yesterday.

This list (with asterisks denoting previous World Cup victories) is:

The fact that South Africa did not fight for the last 32 place like other 31 teams is a concern that we just can't ignore....BB don't have the same fighting spirit shown by France, Algeria.etc.

Even though we performed better vs Japan and Jamaica, but I am still not convinced!

Maybe by 2014 if we qualify and had learnt from 2010 experience, may be i could be convinced...

In any case I love my country and what belongs to it, including the weakest national team,BB.

@Pearl, why don't u see the positive in this article? Most guys commenting on this article probably hate to be reminded of the dangers of unprotected ***. As much as possible the word condom should be rubbed in everyone's nose especially in a country notorious for it high HIV infection rate.

On a lighter note, if size really counts for u am sure u know who to turn to. Not uncircumcised inkwekwes like Kaizer's Prodidal Son but the Nigerians with the size u'd gleefully kill for.

Out of all teams that qualified, I wish Bafana Bafana can play New Zealand 3 times in the fisrt round to ensure qualifications for the next round and also face NZ again in the last 16, quarter finals, semi finals and in the finals so as to win the WORLD CUP. I don't see any team that can be beaten by our BB (if we are realistic enough) out of the last 32 except New Zealand. Anyway let us be patriotic enough and support them even if we know they will not do us proud.

Indeed next year's WC is a must watch cos all the teams are ready and they have come this far in ensuring that they all secure a place for themselves.

Our prayers still remains that our SE should be able to make us proud. its not a crime if Nigeria happens to be the first Africa country to carry the WC.

Did anyone watch Germany vs Ivory coast yesterday,thats what African football is supposed to be like.kudos to the Ivoriens,they were just unlucky to concede late eaqualiser from Podolski.. @Cletus, you forgot to add that Nigeria is the first African country in history to win ANY worldcup (in 1985). South Africa can only boast of the 2006 African cup of nations which they won due to home advantage because Nigeria refused to participate. Nigeria beat South Africa home and away during the 2010 worldcup qualifiers. South Africa could not even qualify for the 2010 nations cup and they are here running their mouths. It's a shame.

I'm surprised that South Africans are raining abuses on Nigerians. This is a football forum and we are meant to discuss football. Why are South Africans afraid of Nigeria? South Africa ought to respect Nigeria because of what we did to emancipate South Africa. Nigeria was in the fore front of the nations that fought apartheid. South Africa owes Nigeria respect.

SA 2010 would produce the best show piece of football from Africa. CIV, Ghana, Cameroun, Algeria and Nigeria are great representatives. Infact, Africa's only weak link here is South Africa. They couldn't even qualify for the nations cup!
