‘Shoes’ back in action again

‘Shoes’ back in action again

Posted: 2009-11-17 11:18

Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs’ legend John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu is back in action, playing for Larry Brookstone’s Highlands Park in the Gauteng stream of the Vodacom Second Division.

Although the man turns 44 next month and has 73 Bafana caps to his name as well as having played over 550 top-flight games, including lengthy spells in Turkey with renowned outfits like Fenerbahce and Bursaspor, he still has the skills to change a game.

The 1996 African Cup of Nations winner, who last played competitive football for AmaZulu in 2007/08 before becoming a free agent, joined the ambitious Park at the beginning of the season.

“It’s unbelievable,” says club official Brad Kaftel.
“Shoes could be at home walking the dogs but he isn’t married and says he enjoys playing soccer.

“He’s a legend; you should see his free kicks - before you know it the ball is straight over the wall into the back of the net. He played our first match but was then injured and out for about a month but has certainly played the last six games - we usually give him about 60 minutes.

“When he came off the pitch against Orlando Pirates’ development side, Yebo Yes, which ended in a 1-1 draw all the opposition fans – about 200 of them, stood up and applauded.

“Half of our side are under-23 so you can imagine how they look up to him!”

Peter Raath

Big-up's to Shoes, it shows that without age-cheating and off-the-field antics players could play for long!!!

Bra Shoes needs to get married and retire from soocer.

Siyaz: 2009-11-17 12:23

Shoes is a joke. Instead of getting himself a wife he persists on playing soccer. Next year he will be playing at 5th Division. I always asked myself why he doesn't want to quit. Now I know the guy has no life. I am sure he has even given up on ever getting married.

Thabang [The KHOSI One]: 2009-11-17 12:38

Nothing wrong with playing while you still can. Hat off to Shoes...

As for being unmarried at 44; GOD is yet to present SHOES with a woman to marry. Marriage is not supposed to be a game that you people make it to be.

Shoes wants to kill himself inside teh field. This guy must learn when it is time to let go and look at new ventures...like getting married and enjoying teh fruits of his toils with his family, wife and kids. Otherwise all his gains will worth nothing if he is not enjoying them with his leniage...

Well done to Shoes. it shows if u take care of ur body u can remain competitive for a long time. Lot of players should be learning a thing or two from Shoes. He's a legend. As to getting a wife, that is his own decision and no 1 can tell him what to do

Bongs: 2009-11-17 13:09

Hhayi bo lomkhulu!! hahahahahaha Grand pa Shoes please get a wife and retire from soccer now!!

ManiQ: 2009-11-17 13:20

what does marriage has to do with loving soccer? some journalists are just reporting on issues that are not relevant to the story line in any case Shoes is a legend married or not, anyway marriage is not the only thing there is about life infact Shoes has proven it.

Iyoooo!!!! some guys will never let things go. Shoes really love playing soccer and there is nothing wrong with that. Its unlike some other players as soon as they desapear they turn to alcohol and spaza shops like Mambushi.

Big up Shoes and I salute you (even though its funny really) but you still have power man

As for you not married......thats your only personally choice. It wont matter guys to suggest to him to be married cos along the way up to where he is now knows what happened and what he wants to do.....so please hands off to other people's choices

Daniel: 2009-11-17 14:42

Pirates is not 1 skipper team or Gayser Chiefs aka Family Business FC: 2009-11-17 14:57

If Big Mac MacCarthy was called because of his past success I suggest to Pareirra and his Co. to also recall Shoes.

Jacob/Styles: 2009-11-17 15:07

Sakkie sakkie saki! Take it easy man high-blood is dangerous, dont b this angry man. Ya one can tell dat you are Shoes supporter, if not you are having an interest. Usile wena!

Really guys shoes love soccer and it is his choice, but baba there is life even if you are not playing professional soccer.

The cute one: 2009-11-17 15:18

am sorry Jacob but hey sometimes we need to give the credit where it is due, well soccer players some of them dont have anything to fall back on after their soccer career and Shoes realised that at an early age and decide to behave unlike others bafethu,
and wena JJ Okocha wama simba chips stop taliking crab jou moer

Lunga: 2009-11-17 16:45

All of you with naive, stupid comments should look at yourselves and be ashamed. Shoes is an SA legend which deserves to applauded for his achievement. Where is Scara, Malatsi, Khanye, Mbuthu, Matombo, Ace Gulwa just to mention a few. they all no longer visible in SA soccer, but Shoes is. It goes to show that if you take care of yourself you'll live longer. You stupid idiots!!

Tumelo: 2009-11-17 17:18

what is wrong with us south africans???

really i want to know why we always tend to have negative inputs, opnions & anger @ anything. ok if it is an article about bafana it is the same, pirates, chiefs or sundowns same thing. instead of call this legendary home grown talent gay & not having a life first ask yrself what have u achieved in football & life, who said mariage is a must & who said u can not mary @ 50 or 60?? i want to say give shoes cridit as he deserve or leave him alone, some of u went as comparing him with aaron mokoena( the same mbazo that u want his blood day in & out).yes he love football & he is playing 4 the love game & he is also helping develop the youngster @ highlands park, we have many ex pros who are doing nothing, getting arrested 4 violence & domestic abuse,so u tell me that is what u want from our players? @ least the guy on news 4 good things, not rape, drunk & driving or ***ual harasment. yes shoes is not broke as u r all hinting,if he was broke he will probaly try @ the top level 2 earn some money. get a life & leave our greates midfieder ever, maried or not he will remain our here, our inspiration & our pride.

NB: if u have nothing good 2 say about a topic or an article lock yr dogs inside yr cave & stop proving how dumb & ignorant u r 2 all of us, god bless u shoes & keep up the good work of planting back what u learned in europe to this young stars.PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN

Mr King Shoes Loves playing soccer not coaching it because had he loved coaching he could have done it a long time ago. If his legs still allow him to play why not play then? Big ups Shoes you are a true legend better then Doctor in my books because you proved yourself in Turkey and playing for a minor team like Amazulu and you still played whereas Doctor only played for K. Chiefs in SA.

Reggie: 2009-11-17 19:37

Shoes life begins at 40not 44, Stop being greedy

lehlohonolo: 2010-01-26 02:18

I know Shoes' son who is twenty something years old and i think he lives with shoes a direct replica of shoes. I think shoes has seen it all and I bet on my last penny that 75 percent of married men want out of marriage but due to a number of obstacles such as children n wat ada people will say ur stuck in it. So Shoes has guts and congrats that he proves that age is a number because kuVodacom the youngsters run like crazy!!!!

G.Leremi 7: 2010-04-12 11:52

Com'on guys, No Wife simply means the guy doesn't fancy commitment;

It would be interesting to know how many children he has, and maybe how many he is supporting.

This guy is my hero on the pitch, but this no-wife thing tends to scare me off. What's wrong 'shoes.' We need more "SHOES MOSHOEU's pls."

leo: 2010-04-19 12:20

where is Respect black brothers, haw can u question shoes life about marriage. shoes is looking forward for an honourary of the first oldest palyer in SA to play soccer at his age. i wish he can reach 50 years playing.
