2010 Fifa World Cup seeding

2010 Fifa World Cup seeding

Posted: 2009-11-16 12:09

If the 2010 World Cup draw was conducted today, below is how the 32 nations will be seeded based on the Fifa world rankings.

Host nation South Africa is the second lowest ranked country in all the countries that have qualified or still stand a chance to do so via Play-offs, just six places ahead of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea who are ranked 91. But by virtue of being a host nation South Africa will automatically qualify for Pot 1, which consists of all the top seeded countries.

In Pot 2, Bafana Bafana face the possibilities of playing against strong countries like France, Portugal, Russia and Ukraine should these countries make it through the Play-offs.

Pot 3 is made up of top countries such as Mexico, Ivory Coast, Serbia and Paraguay.

Pot 4 with Nigeria, Slovakia, Honduras, Ghana and Japan will also not be easy.

The 2010 Fifa World Cup is going to be one of the toughest in the history of the tournament as it will have no new comers; all the countries have previously played in the tournament.

The next Fifa world rankings, which will decide the seeding, will be released on November 20, after the play offs have been finalized.

Thanks be to God for Nigeria's divine qualification for SA 2010. Now, in serious preparation for the tournament, let us commence a debate on players for all positions in the Super Eagles with the aim of assisting the Coach pick the three best Nigerian players anywhere in the world for each position. Kickoff can provide an 'assist' for this to happen.

Frank (Origina), Oscar, Ken gaddafi and all dear forumites who see justice and speak the truth; who have always stood their ground in the face of staggering oppositions...Let's stand our ground pls. I am not averse to the NFF employing a seemingly superior TA but whatever happens, it will be a travesty of justice for Amodu to be kicked out! He must not and will never!!

I suggest that Nigeria should go for the coach of the Mozambiquan National Team (The Mamba) because the guy seem to know about natural African talents and is hungry for success. He explained why the Nigerian team could not function against his team while they played each other in Abuja and confessed to having the anti-dote to decision the Tunisians. Yes he did! He looks to me like someone we can entrust with our National Team as he could do a good job without any sentiments. Anchorman.

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-16 15:49

Thanks frank( original) and Billion. By their fruits we shall know them.

Whatever happens AMODU for me should remain and we can talk of a new begining after the WORLD CUP. Not that he is the best tactician we have, whatever his shortcomings, it will be better to give him a helping hand than throwing him away. I doubt if any coach be it foreign or local could have withstood the pressure he went through to qualify Nigeria on both occasion. It will be an outright injustice to discard with him now and NEMESIS will surely catch up with NIGERIA if we dare do that again.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

ken gadaffi: 2009-11-16 16:24

i cant stop laughing seeing many people already suggesting names of those to succeed AMODU.
Many of the names being suggested are coaches who are either jobless or could not qualify their respective teams in the qualifiers.
What on earth gives this so called advocates the indication that a new coach will bring the best out of the SE than what AMODU has done thus far?

What matters most in football other than winning? Much as its good to see the SE play ***y football, I still think winning or not loosing should be the key and AMODU has proved time and time again that he has the keys.

@Billion, ken gadaffi,Frank (original),Stilo Stilo etc. why are you guys clebrating mediocrity? Amodu has been in charge of the SEs for the past 2yrs and yet he cannot fashion out a good team. A team that plays without fliudity or corhesion, were every player in that team plays OMO (on my Own)brand of football.

If this team should go to the Nation/World cup with this incompetent, shalow minded and tactically defficient coaching crew, then disaster awiats the nation.

Amodu Must Go!!

AMODU, the BEST COACH!I LIKE IT!YOU BEAT FRANCE!YOU MADE A GOOD WORLD CUP CAMPAIGN!THE BEST IN AFRICA!

Clovis: 2009-11-16 19:28

I AM SENDING A BIG CONGRATULATION TO ALL YOU AFRICAN COUNTRIES THAT QUALIFIED FOR THE WC INCLUDING SA. The hope of millions rest on your shoulders to keep that trophy here for a change.
However, I am disappointed in the hate that seems to resonate in this forum from some of the writing posted on this site. African Unite to a single goal to ensure that the trophy stays in our continent.
AMODU should remain but he needs serious help with his tactic and strategy for the WC. I did not see a free flowing game against Kenya nor did it seem like they (SE) were a cohesive team. I am hoping that the style and tactic used against Kenya wasn’t our “A” game, it was more like a “-D” game. My impression was that if the game had been a do or die for Kenya they would have beaten Nigeria by three or more goals to zero. The days of us relying on our brute strength to win games are over, it is tactics and strategy now baby!! Amodu has taken us to the world stage, one step down. Next is can he keep us there to where we can win it all or progress further in to the tournament? With Amodu alone we have less chance of making it out of the group stages.

I am happy we have finally qualified for SA 2010, we sacrifies our world cup for U-17 cup, thats fair and i know must of us we prefer to qualified than to win u-17 cup. God is great.

Son of the soil: 2009-11-17 04:20

Guys simply stop acting like fools. Is Amodu a coach? or are you guys so blind and poor minded? Nigeria can no longer even compete in Africa. It's all bc of local coaches that NFF can take bribes from, and most of u who re carried away by sentimantal ism and short thinking seircuits. Well i think Nigeria deserve a coach, like cameroon, ivory coast,Ghana etc.... We re Nigerians guys, what's wrong with u guys for God sake. can't u all see?

Anchorman: 2009-11-17 09:28

I hope that the immigration authorities in Switzerland would grant amnesty to Nigerians and other Africans residing in their Country as a way of celebrating the success of their U-17 National team over the Golden Eaglet at the just concluded FIFA U-17 WORLD CUP. Moreso as a way of showing appreciation for the overwhelming support they received from their Nigerian fans especially in Lagos. However, it is my wish that they should spare the good ones amongst the immigrants without status at the moment. I actually like to congratulate the Ghanaian (KOFI) that featured in the team and hoping this would give opportunities to others kids of African descent. Anchorman.

KE: 2009-11-17 11:43

I have been reading this forum for quite sometime now. My interest in reading it is based on the insight gained in reading through the minds and thoughts of Nigerians especially as regards the SE world cup campaign.

I quite appreciate the optimistic stand of Ken Gadaffi, Billion, etc. However, may I humbly submit that Amodu or any other coach taking Nigeria to the world cup to me is not really an achievement. Nigeria with it's population of over 140 million should be at the world cup every 4 years like Brazil. Not going to the world cup for NIGERIA (emphasis NIGERIA because we have the players who can go to the World cup and win it) is what should be considered a failure. Going to the world cup should not be a big deal with or without the best of coaches. We should not be struggling to qualify. Rather we should be using the qualifiers to perfect our strategies for a successful performance at least to the quarterfinals and then we can see how it goes from there. That is how serious and business minded countries plan and that is why winning the World Cup remains for Brazil, Italy and Germany. Then others who do their homework well can utilize the lapses in these big three to win the World Cup, e.g. France, Argentina and presently Spain. England have learnt their lessons and are trying to break in with the their present foreign coach.

Obviously, the SE performance was very poor leading to the qualification and at the big stage there will be no Tunisia, Kenya or Mozambique.

Personally, I will prefer an indigenous coach to lead Nigeria even if it is Amodu but he should learn to accept criticism and overhaul his team for the big stage. A team can easily be disgraced at this level and it is better not to be at the World Cup than to be disgraced out.

However, I beg to differ with those who feels that if the NFF feels Amodu should not lead the team, it will bring a curse on us. That is being sentimental. There is absolutely nothing wrong with stock-taking and evaluation with the aim of making positive changes for improved or increased success even without the bringer of the success. There is nothing wrong with laying the foundation while another builds on the foundation says the Holy Bible.

Thanks and may God bless Nigeria and grant the SE more success.

I’ve been waiting for this. Granted, pundits and hooligans are saying that “the only World Cup worth watching is in 2011 in New Zealand” but then again, no one wants to hear from that malicious cadre of malcontents. No need to waste payday loans to find the scores or to get more TV channels, I'. November 18th is the last day of qualification – so whoever wins today goes. It's the qualifying stage for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Good luck for all the competing teams.
