Stars start work for Mali

Stars start work for Mali

Posted: 2009-11-11 09:31

Sixteen Black Stars pitched up for their first training session on Tuesday night ahead of the meeting with Mali at the El-Wak Stadium.

Milovan Rajevac took them through their paces for a game which won’t affect the standings in Group D and the world cup places but Rajevac has urged his players to win and restore confidence after two straight losses.

Midfielder Michael Essien, Samuel Inkoom, Asamoah Gyan, Isaac Vorsah, Anthony Annan and Richard Kingston were the absentees from the first day of training but are expected to join their colleagues on Wednesday.

The game due at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi will be the last in a long qualifying process that Ghana has dominated and now Rajevac wants his players to end in the same manner as they begun: with victory in Kumasi.

Rajevac’s men have lost their last two games and the Serbian is keen for that sequence to end. “In a way it’s natural that the players will relax after qualifying for the world cup but psychologically it is important that we win on Sunday against Mali,” he told KickOffGhana.com.

“To understand how well we have done you have to look at the circumstances of this game. When the draw was made, this was supposed to be a decider but we have ensured that is not the case. Now we need to go out and win it and give ourselves the confidence you get from victories.”

We know that the Stars cannot let us down in Kumasi. The crowd will be too big for them to disappoint us.
All we need is an early goal and we Oseikrom people will be too much for Mali to contain.
We will always be there for the Black Stars
