SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt is set to be announced as the new Bafana Bafana assistant coach.

This comes after Safa president Kirsten Nematandani announced during a press conference at OR Tambo International Airport that they will rope in a third assistant to help Bafana in preparation for the World Cup 2010.

Nematandani announced yesterday that Carlos Alberto Parreira had signed a nine-month contract to return as national team coach, paving the way for Hunt to take over after the World Cup.
 
“It was our wish to have a local person coach the national team, but we only have eight months to go to the World Cup and there is no time for experimenting, so we went for experience,” the Safa president says.
 
“Also, it is Parreira’s programme that the national team is following, so it’s only fair and wise that he returns to continue with it. But the meeting has agreed in principle that the next Bafana Bafana coach after the World Cup will be one of our own.”

A Safa official who wanted to remain anonymous tells KickOff.com that Hunt has agreed to take the position as Bafana assistant coach, but an announcement will only be made after the governing body have met SuperSport and grant him permission to serve on the technical team.

“We have agreed in principle that Gavin Hunt is going to take over as Bafana Bafana coach after the World Cup. We are still to meet with SuperSport to allow him to be assistant coach; in the meantime, Parreira is in charge of the national team for the 2010 World Cup,” the source says.

Then El Presidente, please pay the guy good money as well. Then put together a devcelopment program and a reserve league adn, and, and. There is a lot to be done after the world cup, we need to build a squad that will compete with the best, at the moment, we are the worst.

I am just glad Santana is gone and although I dont understand some of your decisions, I accept it and only hope we will grow from this as I am tired of the "learning" excuse. And another thing, please don't fire Hunt when he doesn't dance to your tune like SAFA did to Shakes Mashaba...peace and love

We do not care about his programme, he failed us a big deal with his cousin Santana. His programme failed us Angola AFCON & SA FIFA world cup...we have just qualified cause we are the host nation. We didn't qualify in field of play.He should have not comeback!!!

It seems local coaches accept to be underestimated as they agree on everything they are told by fat cats(safa bigwigs).Why should we a failed program, this is load of bull, Nemathendani is talking rabish. Appoint Hunt as a head coach not after 2010. Who don't like to coach in a world cup? Mr urge all local coaches not to take Bafana head coaching seat after 2010 because it is obvious they are taken for a ride.

I feel safa did the right thing by bring in carlos peirera becos bafana bafana does not have time 4 expiriments so we needed a qualified coach and im teling good times wil be back 4 bafana and its going 2 be soon.

This is very interesting and irritating,what happens to Pitso if Hunt agrees to be ass coach?
Also if you agree in principle that means they can turn around their decision and say that there was no contract that was signed.
It is for these reasons that I still don't want to buy the national team jersey.

Pirates supporters are talking from personal hate after the lose against SS. Hunt deserve to be given a chance. He is the only coach with high coaching qualifications. I support SAFA on this one. The Gavin Hunt issue is debatable because Gordon is much more succesful than him, Gavin achieved zilch at Lidoda Venda,,, He achieved fokol at Swallows,,,,, Cut and pasted Pitso`s groungwork at Sion Utd and then won the league on the last day in successive seasons with absolutely nothing to spare..

He`s nothing special either....Gordon`s the wiser of the two, no doubt.

I agree with Mzakes - the Bafana Job requires a man with strong nerves. There is so much pressure when the whole country including its State President and Comrade Julius are putting their feet in as well.As of a sudden everybody has an oppinion. Poor Kirsten,he accepted this nomination for president at a wrong time - when all the eyes of the whole world are on the country to play well in the world cup. Now the PSL Board of club Governors are also sharpening their knives against him.Its crazy ! Is it beacuse of the R1 billion rand coming to SAFA after 2010 ?
