Santos dropped two points at the Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch on Wednesday night when they drew 2-2 with Free State Stars.
The home side could well have won this game, but gave away two soft goals and also wasted a couple of good opportunities to add to their tally.
Stars took the lead in only the second minute, with Tebelo Mofokeng heading past Tshepo Motsoeneng after former Santos man Ruben Cloete had curled a free-kick into the box.
The Cape side then had chances as Romano Scott had a long range, if rather hopeful ball, tipped over the bar, while Musa Otieno's well-timed effort from 35-yards out sailed just past goal.
However, the Peoples' Team's persistence, aided by a howling wind at the backs, saw them equalise in the 23rd minute when Tony Tsabedze fired home with a low drive from just outside the box, showing good composure to keep his effort on target.
It took a while for things to get doing in the second half, with the first chance coming in the 67th minute when Erwin Isaacs blasted a volley wide from right in front of goal.
However, a few minutes later Isaacs earned Santos the chance to go ahead when he earned a penalty after being fouled by Cloete in the box. Tyren Arendse netted from the spot to hand Santos the lead in the 71st minute.
Ea Lla Koto however denied the hosts a three point haul when they equalized in the 83rd minute, thanks to Mpho Makola, who finished expertly from just inside the box after some slack defending.
