Ngomane, Zondo confident

Ammabinneplaas co-coaches Simon Ngomane and Khabo Zondo are impressed with the side that leaves for Zimbabwe on Friday to defend their Cosafa Cup title.

The National Developmental team will face Angola in their opening match in Bulawayo on Monday.

To gauge their readiness for the tournament, the Development Team played against Orlando Pirates of Namibia with the match ending 2-2 on Sunday night.

“The match against Orlando Pirates was a good one and a lot of positives came out of the exercise. The way our boys played gives us confidence, and they are starting to gel, which was our main target before we ventured into tactics.

“But I must say we have been impressed by some of the youngsters who, besides the fact that they don’t get game time at their clubs, still have the hunger for the game and are taking this challenge seriously,” says Ngomane.

Ngomane added that what he and Zondo have done is to create a positive environment for the players to feel part of the team.

I dont understand. Shouldnt this be a development team? If so, then why are developing Ngwenya or Makhanya?

Does anyone know the rest of the squad?

I have always maintain that selection criteria for BB players should be that for a player to qualify to represent the national team they should have played in the last 5 games (Average 50 minutes per game) of their respective team regardless of which league they play in. So that we can avoid this mentality of having the bench warmers who play in Europe thinking cause they play in Europe they will qualify to play for Bafana. Players must fight hard in their teams to represent South Africa.
