Bayelsa United knocked out

Posted: 2009-10-17 10:50

Bayelsa United's CAF Confederation Cup campaign came to a cold end in freezing conditions as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Algeria's Entente Sportif Setif, losing the semifinal 2-1 on aggregate.

The Nigerian champions travelled to Algeria confident of progress despite being on the backfoot following a 1-1 first leg result in Oghara a forthnight ago.

Club chairman Rumson Baribote upped the ante by promising the players double bonuses if they advanced.

But it all went to naught within 11 minutes, when Ziaya Malik put the home side ahead.

Hard as they fought, the Nigerian side failed to change the scoreline and the Algerians advance to the final.

As for the super eagles there will be no head-to-head rule they have (2) way chance while Tunisia have (1) way chances of qualification to world cup in South Africa 2010.
We need to win our match in kenya and there is no way Tunisia will win Mozambique the best result will be a draw because they need it to qualify for nations cup since they are not sure of what will happen between us and Kenya.

Also, the following are the options FIFA will apply in order of importance in case of a tie
1. The goal difference in all group matches
2. The greatest number of goals scored in all group matches
In case a tie still exists between two (2) or three(3) teams the following will be considered:
1. The greatest number of points obtained between the teams concerned
2. The goal difference between the teams concerned
3. The greatest number of goals scored between the teams concerned.

Furthermore, in the case of a tie still persisting a draw will be made by the Organising Committeee that could be replaced by a play-off match with possible extra time and penalty kicks.

The play-off is FIFA’s last resort to determine the team to qualify for the World Cup when other means are intricately locked.

Instructively, the regulations for determining the qualified countries for both the FIFA World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations are no identical.

The 2010 Nations Cup finalists will be decided by:
1. Greatest number of points during their direct encounters
2. Highest goal difference during their direct encounters
3. Greater number of goals scored during their direct encounters
4. Greater number of away goals scored in their direct encounters.

The overall goal difference for the Orange Africa Cup of Nations only applied when a perfect tie appears during the direct encounters or when more than two (2) teams possess the same number of points.

Cameroun, Gabon, Tunisia, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Angola have confirmed their places at the Nations Cup while six more countries will join them when the qualifiers round off in November.

@Stilo, please be civil in your comment. Just like you are a fan of Amodu, others have the rights to back any other coaches and that should not make them morons or fools. Good coaches are not determined by the number of trophies won only but the manner of play of the team, the impact of the coaches on the players. I doubt if Guus Hiddink has won anything outside Neitherland but he is a top coach because of the way his team plays. A lot of people may say that Mikel, Taiwo, Ogbuke made Siasia but why have they failed to fly under a different coach after dazzling the world at the youth level against young stars (Messi, Aguero, Mascherano, Babel, et al) of the world.

shola: 2009-10-17 18:01

Calling people name is not acceptable at all, please grow up and behave like a civilized person. I respect everybody's opinion however some opinions are just very sensible. Please you have to win championship to prove who you are, we can not say you are the best because your tactics looks good on paper.Siasia i love you but you must improve and also humble yourself.

Countdown to 2010:OF OBUH'S GOLDEN EAGLETS
We all saw what the Ghanaians did yesterday to the bewilderment of the whole world. But the victory did not come so cheap. Sallas Tetteh came on board after the dismal performance of the former coach at the U-17 AYC in Togo in 2007. Came to Nigeria and won the WAFU U-20, went to Rwanda and won the U-20 AYC and WC yesterday. He has been working with the team for more than two years. Ask the NFF when was John Obuh appointed. We have to be sincere with ourselves as a nation before we begin to expect too much from our teams in championships.

The Satelittes team composed of 9 defenders, 6 midfielders, 3 strikers and 3 goalkeepers. Nigeria went to the same competition with 7 strikers, 6 midfielders, 5 defenders and 3 goalkeepers. Obuh's team too has the same satistics as Siaone's. The same with the Super Eagles, more strikers are invited than midfielders and defenders and WHAT DO WE GET-HBP.

His team was ravaged but SALVAGED with the use of MRI scans. A good development that will make us winners in the future because the MEN have been pruned from the team.

Do not expect a too much from the Eaglets. Obuh has not really known his team well enough to face different attacking teams and strategies. He has only been able to grind some results against NPL oppositions. He has not been long in his job. Can the players handle the pressure they will receive from the Nigerian fans when the chips are down. Can Obuh handle criticisms and the NFF confused bottlenecks? All these are questions that needs to be answered. I am not a prophet of doom. So I profer a little solution to Obuh's problems with the following hints.

Watch the Ghanaian teams matches, the substitutions the Coach made when they were losing (if any), his tactics and the way the players display unselfishness. Go, watch the late Tella's team and see how he won against the Columbian's, the substitutions he made when they were trailing one nil down. The way he turned defending into attacking against the Germans in the semi-final. The number of cards the team received. Ask Iroha questions of how they did it. With the above mentioned setbacks, do we really think Obuh's team can win? I believe in MIRACLES and pray for one come next 3 weeks.Mr John Obuh, May this championship not deem your hard earned reputation as Coach in Jesus name.

kent: 2009-10-17 22:40

Ghana won the cup and KON did not let us know, what a shame.

Obi: 2009-10-17 23:51

@coache....nice piece. I agree with you, but with one caveat: I really don't mind us not winning the competition, as long as we use real U-17 players and we progress reasonably far in the competition to assure continued unterest in the competition by the home fans and the development of the players. I will consider getting to the semi finals a major accomplishment by the coach!

At the african Youth Championship in Mauritius in 1993, we were knocked out in the 1st round, having lost to both Ghana and Cameroun, and winning against Mauritius. Ghana went on to reach the final of that year's WYC in Australia where they lost 2-1 to Brazil. Yet that Nigerian team gave us Jayjay Okocha, Kanu N****wo, Taribo West and Benedict Akwuegbu...these are the ones that come to mind easily. Ghana's superior team on the other hand, gave them only Odartey Lamptey and Charles Akunnor as the players of note that later went on to serve at senior level. By 1998, both akunnor and Lamptey had fizzled out. On the other hand, Okocha played on till 2006, taribo represented us at the 2002 World Cup, Akwuegbu was present at the 2000 Nations Cup and beyond, and Kanu continues to defy age even today! Jayjay played a crucial part in our 1994 Nations Cup triumph and all except Akwuegbu gave us an Olympic Gold medal. All four would later link up to give us a silver medal in the Nations Cup in 2000. Ghana on the other hand, regressed into oblivion during that period. My question is: which of these two teams (Nigeria or Ghana) actually gained from Mauritius 93? I rejoice with this Ghanaian U-20 team from the bottom of my heart, and I wish that they would nurture some of these boys into full grown internationals in future. If they do that, then it would have been worth it. On our own part, I emphasize that I can see some quality players coming through from this team: Rabiu Ibrahim, King Osanga, Obiora N****wo, Edet.... These are players who have the potential to become house-hold names in future. If they and their colleagues succeed in giving us good quality service for a long time to come, then I can seriously say that Egypt 2009 was not a bad tournament for us after all. The future will tell.

I did not expect a miracle from Bayelsa united in Algeria! They blew the chance back here in Nigeria 2 weeks ago, but I've always considered their participation in this year's competition to be a dress rehearsal for their CAF Champions League debut next year. They should study their participation in the Confederations Cup this year and take lessons from it for next year. The time for them to start planning is now......time waits for no one!

jeff: 2009-10-18 03:14

@ stilo Give it up already! Why the fuss and blind hatred against siaisa? Dude, go get something to drink and just relax! You are actually behaving like someone took your toy from you!

fash: 2009-10-18 04:43

that stilo of a boy is such a baby, just listen to em winning and crying like a six month old baby. makes me wonder who would had done such a terrible thing by taking his feeding bottle away from em. abeg who ever has baby stilo's feeding bottle should pls give it back to em and save us from this winning crying baby(stilo).

Jebsy: 2009-10-18 06:44

Forumites, does anyone noticed that this guy called stilo has wrong mad because of siasia. I mean he has a big psychiatric problem cuz he is always out of context. I bet, if we change the topic in this forum to basketball game or swimming he is still gonna be talking about great sia 1. Stilo, u can read this when u come back to your senses. Greatness is never a given. it must be earned, and Sia 1 has earned himself a greatness, that is why everyone he is the best in Nigeria today. Yes, he failed in egypt, and thats is why he is a human. To those in the glass house that pumped champaign after he crashed out in egypt, what you dont understand is, it is also put bad image on your own administration, while sia 1 will move on and achieve more success in life. so stilo, if you are lucky to come back to your senses, this message is for you and the stupid NFF.

Bob : 2009-10-18 08:11

@Stilo ... Stilo do not mind those bashing you. Truth hurts and makes your critics uncomfortable. They are the ones who have virtually destroyed Siasia by over-rating him. Sia1 is the best in their minds but not in Africa. Sellas Tetteh won the U-20 WC, and does that mean he is the best coach in Africa, no.? Ghanaians celebrate him but will not over-rate him. He is very humble. Sia1 is not invisible. At least he has been exposed as a dumb coach. When his players helped him to win silver in 2005 and 2008, he rejoiced but when he failed in Egypt, he calls African players dumb.Proud coach.Amodu is better than Sia1. If Sia1 IS YOUR BEST COACH, THEN Nigerian soccer is doomed.

ADE: 2009-10-18 11:05

It is wonderful to make all the following observation but we most build from home. The Nigerian Home league can not reap where it has not sown. The fire brigade to football in Nigeria is from our league. The league is not yet business.

Most footballers think of our league as rubbish bin where they must escape to Europe and play foot ball.

What we need is raising the bar for organisational football in Nigeria. The Academys must come. The pitches must come, The football Gym must come and the sponsorship must come.

Government cannot and should never do this. Football should have its life. The government should hands off football. If it dies in the hands of private people so be it. Federal Government Should make the rules and hands off.

When you set up a league so effective and market driven even people from brazil will play in your league.

We cannot be a consumer Nation we need to begin to buy and sell football locally. See all those big names that play football in Europe sometimes play worse football when they go abroad E.G Jon Mikel Obi.

We need to have a Primier league where the rules are

1) have your own Stadium
2) Have your own Academy
3)Have your own youth team
4) Have your own football gym
5) must have sports medical team
6) Have a capital base of 20million dollars
etc

We need the RECAPITALIZE OUR FOOTBALL TEAMS our footballers are getting worse outside because most nigerians just want to leave Nigeria not for football sake.

How many south Africans play in Nigeria? We must build a league that will attract everyone so that i football would improve.

Let us set a RECAPITALISATION STANDARD that any team that wants to play in a SUPER PREMIER league should have listed things in the next 2 years. The sponsor the league must be be ready to buy the rights in an open bid. The money must be huge, Call it the Money league or whatever.

wow..forumites here re four pathetic news i read from the tribune this morning, copy, paste nd read

1]yaradua wants amodu sacked ..http://www.tribune.com.ng/18102009/news/sports1.html.

2]mozambique pattern favoured us-amodu.....http://www.tribune.com.ng/18102009/news/sports9.html

3]we quarrel too much in camp-yobo....http://www.tribune.com.ng/18102009/news/sports3.html

4]fall out from 2010 worldcup qualifier--kanu,amokachi disagree...http://www.tribune.com.ng/18102009/news/sports6.html

AFTER READING THESE STORIES I DISCOVERED THAT 90% OF THE PROBLEM IS FROM THE CLUELESS TECHNICAL CREW...IMAGINE AMODU SAYING MOZAMBIQUE PATTERN FAVOURED HIM WITHOUT JUSTIFYING HOW IT HELPED HIM AND HE DIDN'T WIN THE MATCH IN TIME.
ALSO READ HOW AMOKACHI WHO PLAYED IN EUROPE AND SUPPOSE TO KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF FANS IN ANY TEAM ,TELLING KANU..'WHY DO YOU NEED TO GREET THE CROWD WHO BOOED YOU ALL THROUGH THE GAME??AND KANU REPLED AND TOLD HIS TEAM-MATES 'DONT MIND HIM,WE STILL NEEDS THE FANS SUPPORT LETS GO AND GREET THEM'..AND AMOKACHI WAS PISSED OFF.
SO OUR PROBLEM IS THAT THE TWO GUYS[AMODU,AMOKACHI] INCHARGE ARE COMPLICATING THEIR TECHNICAL INCOMPETENCE WITH THEIR UNPROFESSIONALISM..
NO WONDER LULU TOLD SAM AUDU OF GOAL.COM THAT IT IS ONLY GOD THAT WILL DELIVER THE WORLD TICKET TO US NOT OUR PLAYERS LEG..
EVEN OUR GO SLOW PRESIDENT IS ALSO NOT HAPPY WITH THE TEAMS RESULT.
I WILL KEEP ON PRAYING FOR THE EAGLES, THIS IS A TALENTED TEAM BEEN DESTROYED BY HUMAN ERRORS
MAY GOD HELP US AND DELIVER THE WORLD CUP TICKET TO US AMEN

ONE NIGERIA: 2009-10-18 12:21
