Mozambique confident of victory

Mozambique coach Mart Nooij believes his team will beat Tunisia in Maputo when both sides met on the final day of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

The Mambas can no longer make the party in South Africa, and can afford to lose to Tunisia and still qualify if Nigeria beat Kenya, but Nooij is taking no chances.

"We want to qualify for the Nations Cup and we don’t want to depend on another team's result to do it for us," he told KickOffNigeria.com after the game in Abuja.

"We know that if we win, we will qualify no matter what happens in Nairobi so we want to keep our destiny in our own hands."

Nooij also says victory will show that his team have progressed and could compete with the best teams on the continent, adding that both Tunisia are Nigeria were lucky to win against the Mambas on their own individual turfs.

"Tunisia were lucky to beat us when we met them in Tunisia. Nigeria too, were lucky today because we did not take our chances.

"We will do our best to win that game so that we can show the rest of Africa that we are coming to Angola to be serious and not to make up the numbers.

Nooij also added salt to Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu's festering wounds by describing the Nigerian team as naïve.

"Nigeria were tactically naive. The team has been playing the same style since we drew the first game in Maputo. We knew we could hold our own in Abuja, but we did not expect to get as many opportunities to score as we had.

"If our strikers had taken their chances, we could have won or got a draw."

Mozambique host Tunisia on November 14 simultaneously with Nigeria playing Kenya in Nairobi.

The only scenario that will see the Super Eagles qualify is if they beat Kenya, and Tunisia fail to win in Maputo.

That result will leave both sides level on points, but Nigeria would have a marginally superior goal difference, which is the first tie-breaker.

WAOW AND EVEN AN OPOSITION COACH COULD TELL US THAT WE WERE TACTICALLY NAIVE, AND HAVE BEEN PLAYING SAME PATTERN...RIDICULOUS, ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS
I DO AGREE WITH THE MOZAMBIQUE COACH...NIGERIA HAS NOT HAD A COACH FOR A LONG TIME..

@Ebuka Bora, when u stand up in the market place to call someone a thief and later realize in the evening time that the person is not after the market had dispersed, how do u call the entire people again to tell them the person is not the thief? It's unfortunate how we don't check our facts b4 posting! Anyways, apologies accepted!!

@Stilo, i have been reading your comment calling Siasia "***** head". if you don't know, a ***** head is sensitve to changes and as well sensible. look at your own head, what is it size? do you that the ants are more reaseonable than you are. since you call siasia ***** head bcos of his disappointing out recently, please answer the following question to prove that you are much better than he his,Q1:who is the best striker in the compound you live? Q2:who is the best defender in your street? Q3:Can you coach and play a team of player made up of counters(soft drink bottle covers)? Q4:can you explain a football formation to a 5 year old? Q5: can you name the first african country to win their first match in their first world cup appreance? Q6:can you play and win a football match in a video game? Q7:what is the size of a football worldwide? Q8:who score nigeria first goal at the world cup and in what year? Answer those question and prove a point about yourself that you are the true son of your father and that you know much better than siasia. try and coach u5 in your street and play against u3 and see if you'll have a ball possesion up to 43%. try playing it yourself with people your age, and see if you'll be able to kick a ball. if you don't have anything to say, why not go fishing as usuall.

According to Nooij, Mozambique had enough opportunity to kill off the game, "but my strikers did not take advantage of the chances they created."

He said: "Nigeria was very heavy and tactically naive. The team has been playing the same style since we drew the first game in Maputo. We knew we could hold our own in Abuja, but we did not reckon that we would get as many opportunities to score as we had.

i hope so.
although i have a feeling that we might not use the chance if it was handed to us.
we might still lose in Kenya

ken gadaffi: 2009-10-13 19:38

Bilion, where have u been? u have been silent all the while prior to and after the match on sunday same for the likes of stan, oscar, doyin and a host of others who have always been objective in their comments.
Whats up?

ken gadaffi: 2009-10-13 19:43

What do you expect him to say? What counts most in football is the final score..... All this talk about technical and tactical acumen is just to polish issues, what matters is the win and 3 points at stake.
So long Nigeria qualify for the WC2010, to hell with Technical naivety.

Di maria, I have been following your postulations from time to time and non has seemingly come to pass. I presume that your assumption that the Eagles will not be at the World Cup because Tunisia will win in Maputo is a good indication that the opposite will be the case. I will be eager to read your comments come Nov 14.

Thank God Mozambique coach him self have sing the gospel for the useless nff to hear. I hope to see Amodu sack immediately after the kenya match no matter the result. If amodu is reasonable enough he should have resign before now because he is totally confused and don`t have solution to our national team problem, any white man in amodu`s situation will resign.

@Stilo how do you compare amodu with Siasia? amodu is the worst coach in the world, I wonder how any reasonable Nigerian will speak bad against Siasia after all he has done for the country both as a player and coach too.

I think something positive is about to happen,if the PTF are now asking for Amodu's head it's the begining of wisdom! Also trying to entreat a foreing(BIG)coach is further in that direction! If we must be sincere, going to Tunisia to pick a draw is not that bad result so why withhold their allowances. Get this man(Amodu) fired b/f the next match b/c I forsee the REAL HEART ATTACK befalling Nigerians when Moambique wins and Amodu and his GREEN BOYS lose. Siasia should be called up as interem coach while we search for the BIG FOREIGN coach. Ofcourse it would have been lovely to have Siasia permanently but he will constantly be at loggerheads with those ROGUES at the top and I fear that at a time he might give up and dance to their tunes to keep his JOB.... we are all witness to the kind of untalentd players they imposed on him recently. MY oppinion is; until the glass house is COMPLETELY cleaned up we should rely on foreign experts afterall very proud conservative & communist countries like England and Russia are on it.

I hope for nigeria to qualify oohh but the real heart attack will come when mozambique wins or draws and our sick eagles will now lose or draw.Nff and amodu has ruined our football is westerhoh he has been building a team eversince i've known him ****** liar and incompitent coach. If they lose or draw and mozambique wins or draw i advise he escapes to europe b4 he gets the beating of his life in naija.ALL THE BEST ANYWAY.

The coach of Mozambique has said it all. I hope Nigeria is making plans to play friendly matches before the match against Kenya in Nairobi. It will be a very big mistake to under rate the Kenyans. Also Amodu should invite guys like Obodo and Odia, and Martins should be in the starting line-up.

Even those who are romancing Amodu today konw very well that he does not have what it takes to take a team to the world cup. Whatever the scores on November 14. Whether Nigeria qualifies or not. I see an end to Amodu's reign as the SE coach.

I don't blame Amodu for the mess he has put us in. I blame those who appointed him in the first place. They knew Amodu was not it but preferred to gamble thinking that since we have established stars, the players would do it for him. Truth be told. These days names don't win matches anymore. Most games are won on the bench based on tactics. Even when a good coach losses a game, everyone appreciates the coach. Siasia lost games at the under 20 world cup but his boys played well and kept possession of the ball. Granted that Siasia failed in that assignment, Amodu has not done anything to improve the lot of the playing style of the Eagles. He's not introduced a winning formula. It's a pity!

I doubt if this same Amodu can go to Kenya and win the Harambee Stars. I can bet that the Mozambicans would do us a favour by beating the Tunisians or at least get a draw. But can Amodu's clueless Eagles score at least 2 unreplied goals against the the Kenyans in their backyard?

Ebuka Bora: 2009-10-14 12:39

@abule I’m not envious of anyone’s success. On the contrary, I adore football stars.

@elzo, I’ve got conscience and that is the reason for the apology. Apart from referring to Okoro as Okoronkwo, my ‘story’ is all correct. It wasn’t cooked up. Remember that his picture wasn’t posted for that particular article. It was after his hatrick for the eaglets that his picture was posted. I looked at the picture and quickly realised that something was wrong. Igbos sometimes shorten Okoronkwo to Okoro. Immidiately I made a thorough research and discovered that Okoronkwo is not in Heartland though he played for Rangers. I learnt his contract with Rangers was not renewed. I repeat my facts are correct but they are for Okoronkwo Stanley.

@timi, nobody threatened me. I can I assure you that. I didn’t say I saw him at the Astroturf. Recall that he was drafted to the eaglets’ team at a later stage (i.e., after my visit). I was talking about Okoronkwo’s stature whom I’ve seen several times (including his time in Rangers). Please be mindful of your diction.

@allstars, thank you very much.

sam: 2009-10-14 12:44

as much as we need a technically oriented coach we also have to accept the fact that we cant really make much impact if this present team is to feature in the wc. i cannot imagine the disgrace that may come from it. ill rather prefer we put our house in order before showing up at the wc.cos the disgrace then may be unbearable

val: 2009-10-14 12:50

If failure to feature at the 2010 world cup will make us wake up and put our football in particular and sports in general in order, so be it.
Because right now we are in disarray and could spell further doom for our country's image if we progress to the next rounds all in the name of merit. Would it be good to support our SE due to merit or patriotism? merit of course!!!!!
But i have bad news for you guys, we do not merit it to be at the world cup in South Africa and am sure no forumite or Nigerian would be shocked at this just like we were not shocked at been eliminated by Germany at the u21 in Egypt.
Recently, names like Tahiti, Somalia, Lesotho, Mozambique have started sending rising blood pressures to us, this shows how decayed the system is. If we do eventually wobble and fumble to be in South Africa, then God has just decided to be Nigerian and warn us finally to take a look at our decay which is lenient enough, else we should be ready to be punished the hard way by featuring only at the nations cup in Angola.
The truth remains that our indigenous coaches have been given their chances and they all blew them, i am no advocate of foreign coaches either, but it is glaringly obvious that we do need a foreign coach, and also a complete overhaul of officials at the NFF.
I had initially thought Siasia could handle the SE, but i am wrong, lets not dwell too much on sentiments, blames, praises, bla bla.
Me thinks Siasia should remain with the u21 and we hope he is retained so he would have exactly two years to prepare for the next u21 youth world cup, while a foreign coach is employed after 14th november, qualification or not.
The coach should be given the mandate of qualifying for the world cup 2014 in Brazil while Siasia is mandated to win the the next and elusive u21 world youth championship. This would give enough room for talents hunt and discovery.

Olayinka: 2009-10-14 12:52

Mr Editor, a point of correction. If we end up with the same points as Tunisia, We are not going to SA. This is due to Tunisia scoring 2 goals in Abuja, and we scored non in Tunisia.

I was also wandering why Amodu played Yakubu. The guy wasn't fit. I don't see Mzambuq beating Tunisia. I think it will end up being a draw. Even if they win, the question is can beat Kenya with the kind of players we have. I think we should start building and start planning for 2014/2018. God bless Nigeria

When being asked if Nigeria is bad, i simply reply "pay a visit to Nigeria, you'll change your citizenship", others i reply "do you believe everything on tv? Nigeria and Africa is the best place to visit, due to wild life and many natural tourism attraction". sometimes i do speak pigeon english with them, leaving them to reason for themselves what it really means. i'm always proud to say am from NIGERIA and will remain a NIGERIAN, because home is better. No matter how high a bird may fly, it legs always point to the ground. the point? no matter where we live, who we are and what we do, home(NIGERIA) is where we return to,cos HOME IS BETTER. @Cletus
Am kind of surprised in bashing Stilo you seem to emphasize Sia1's success by reason of his teams having massive % of ball possession. Higher ball possession doesn't necessary transform into winning. Its a team's ability to take their chances that wins. eg Playing against Soth Korea, Ghana had anly 36% yet they won. If ball possession is what you use to rate Sia1 then he is not a good coach. With him as Nigeria's coach, Naija will get ball possession but will not be wiining.. As a coach he needs to train his wards to utilise their chances and score. That is what he failed to do at the U-20 WC. Anyway he knows Nigerians like ball possession and nice football and thats what he's been giving to you

@Mozambique Coach
Keep Dreaming since dreaming is free. The Tunisians also have a dream just as the Kenyans also have a dream, dream to win. I see two things might happen
1. There is no way Zambiq can beat Tunisia. Either a win for Tunisia or a draw
2. There is no way Nigeria can beat Kenya at Nairobi. Its a draw or Kenya will win

sultan003: 2009-10-14 18:20

Mart Nooij is not even sure that the super chickens will win in nairobi, that why he wants his team to win against tunsia, to avoid "IF I HAD KNOWN"

Stan: 2009-10-14 22:43

Shut the hell up Nooij. Why couldn’t you win against a tactically naďve team if you’re so good. You had so many chances but couldn’t score. May be you should spend more time training your strikers on how to score goals than talk nonsense. You’re in third place and you talk like someone who’s already qualified for the world cup.
Dummy, you contradicted yourself Mooij.

Amodu still remains Nigeria's best coach ever.the problem with Nigeria football started from the very day amodu and keshi were sacked, and one old yoruba chief was employed.onigbinde killed football in Nigeria,i wonder why he still works wit NFF.among all the so called young players he took to ko-japan 2002 world.none of them played for Nigeria again after that world cup year.only yobo, kanu and okocha survived from that team.

Amodu should be retained.my advice to amodu is to stop reading complete football, dont listen to them, they hype players that settles them with money.
my final sugestion is that John utaka should be invited to the team.he is still better than half of our regular palyers.he plays in midfield also.

Please i need amodu's email addresss i wana give him tips on how we can do well in Nation cup and world cup.
