Ajax Cape Town defender Eduardo Ferreira is not only nursing a groin injury, but also a broken heart for missing the MTN8 Final against Golden Arrows next weekend.
The game between the Urban Warriors and Abafana Bes’thende was scheduled to be the last Cup Final appearance for Ferreira before joining Mamelodi Sundowns, but with a groin injury troubling the Brazilian, his career with Ajax could be good as over.
Speaking to KickOff.com, Ferreira blamed himself for continuing to play with the injury.
“I picked up the injury last season, but I was forced to continue playing for the last five games because there were no defenders at the club.
“I went home for holidays and when I came back I thought the injury was okay, only to aggravate it again during a League game against SuperSport United.
“I have not yet started kicking the ball and have only been visiting the physio for treatment. I am a strong person and am confident that I will recover before the end of the year and play for Ajax. The supporters have been asking me when I am returning back to action and this is the motivation that I need.”
Ferreira has, however, remained hopeful that his teammates will mend his broken heart of missing the MTN8 Final by bringing the Cup back to Cape Town next weekend.
“I am disappointed to be missing the Final. This is the third time this kind of disappointment has happened. Last year I missed the Telkom Cup Final against Pirates due to a yellow card suspension and also the Nedbank Cup semifinal due to injury.
“It was my wish this time to get a medal through my efforts on the field. But I remain confident that the guys will do well against Arrows next weekend,” he adds.
