The organisers of the Cosafa Castle Cup have announced the prize money structures and ticket prices for the upcoming tournament to staged in Zimbabwe from October 17 to November 1 with the Player of the Tournament getting around R12 000.
According to the tournament website the tournament top scorer and competition’s best goalkeeper will each walk away with R7500.
The Man of the Match for each game played during the two-week tournament will receive a commemorative trophy just like the team that will get the Fair Play Award.
The South African team (Amabinneplaas), to be coached by Khabo Zondo and Simon Ngomane, have drawn a bye in the first round and will start off their campaign against Angola at Barbourfields Stadium.
The South African will comprise players who are not regulars at their respective clubs so that they can be released even if their clubs have domestic commitments.
Some of the players included in the team to take the short trip across the Limpopo are the Orlando Pirates trio of Joseph Makhanya, Oupa Manyisa, Mduduzi Nyanda and Zakhele Nene of Golden Arrows.
South Africa has won this tournament three times, including last year when they lifted the trophy in Bloemfontein with Under-20 coach Serame Letsoaka.
The regional competition’s organisers have pegged rest of the ground charges for the preliminary round group games being played at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo and Rufaro in Harare at US$2.
The same amount for standard seating will also be charged for quarter-finals, semifinals and third place play-offs matches. However, fans hoping to watch the final from the standard seats will pay US$3.
According to the organisers the tournament features the very best of Southern Africa’s talent and will afford spectators the opportunity to see not only the finest talent of today but the stars of tomorrow too in a two week celebration of the region’s football.
All countries in the Cosafa region will be participating except for Madagascar whose international schedule does not allow them to feature.
Matches will be played in Harare and Bulawayo.
