Pienaar officially ruled out

Pienaar officially ruled out

Posted: 2009-10-05 22:04

Bafana Bafana will have to make do without the services of star midfielder Steven Pienaar for the two international friendlies against Norway and Iceland.

The Everton schemer had been doubtful with a knee injury – ironically sustained after a late challenge by Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena in a clash against Portsmouth.

KickOff.com broke the news earlier on Monday that Franklin Cale had been called up as cover, and it’s now certain the Ajax Cape Town winger will join the squad.

“It’s official ... Steve Pienaar is not going to be with us for the games against Norway and Iceland, so Franklin Cale automatically take his position in the squad,” Bafana team manager Sipho Nkumane tells KickOff.com.

“Other than that, everything is going well in terms of preparations. I am currently in Iceland, where it is very cold, and will only check on Norway on Tuesday.”

Ernest Fakude

Fellows, Schillo and Mbazo were just performing their respective duties when the unfortunate happened, please dont be idiots folks, football is a contact sport. Wishing our no. 10 a speedy recovery, he's the current Everton's best player by the way.

I am disappointed he will miss this tour but am happy Teko is back. I would have loved to see Zothwane back as well.

Mbazo is certainly not our BEST but he is one of us and he has the leadership qualities, I support him and everybody selected....

However, I don’t understand the science behind the call up of CALE to replace Pienaar? Those TWO are totally different players...and I think Papi Zothwane would have been an automatic replacement. CALE should replace the likes of Tshabalala not Pienaar...you cannot replace a playmaker with a wing player. I congratulated CALE and support him...

I so wish dis coach of our could stop playing this 3 defensive middle fielders coz i know that he might be tempted of playing them now that pienaar is nt there!! I would nt mid if he plays Van heerden in Pienaar position. knowing our coach, playing 3 difensive middle fielders!! i wuld nt put that past him.

Ronny: 2009-10-06 08:11

Guys some of u neva played soccer, judging by ur comment, i can see dat u neva kicked the ball, how on earth can a player go 2 da field with the aim 2 destroy other players careers?
think before u comment.

sxivovo: 2009-10-06 08:21

As for Zothwane!! I dnt think he is ready yet!! He is nt fit bt im sure the guy will make it!! in 2010WC, The guy can shoot left and right, the guy can defend and attack, Players like him are very hard to find. you have your Teko who are gud the attack mode bt whn it comes to defensive mode, hayi!!!! khona!! you have you Sibaya who is good at the defesive mode bt when it comes to attack mode, Hayi!!! khona!!!. In Zothwane you dnt need 3 defensive middle fielders coz you know that you have umshini ozishintshayo (Automatic Machine)bt we need him to be fit. Lets for get about what happened in Cape Town bt no one can take away what that boy god's given talent.

"I am currently in Iceland, where it is very cold”

What were you expecting Mr Sipho Nkumane? A hot day in Iceland? hehehe

I hope the boys are ready for the challenge. Katlego Mphela left France complaining about the cold weather, now you are taking him to Iceland...Hehehe...Pretorian boy will freeze. I wonder what Benson Mhlongo is thinking at the moment: "Mavis should bake a lot of vatkoeks, that place is extremely cold"
Thulasizwe Mbuyane: "Bra-Benson, are you gonna chow your vatkoeks with ice?"

Thabang: 2009-10-06 09:01

This is time for TEKO’s resurrect; I am confident that he will be back to his old BB form. However we will still miss Schillosky just as we missed TEKO in the previous tour, sh**t SA's got talent.

@Ronny:

Not that Im undermining ur knowledge of football, but it does happen bra! Well, it might not b da case b/t Mbazo and da real No.10 but I ve seen it happening left, ryt and Centre! Do u remember Benard 'Shoes' Lushozi, Linda 'uganda-ganda ungena-steering' Buthelezi, Andrew 'The Jaws of life' Rabutla.....etc! These guys were well known bone breakers and they enjoyed their roles more than anybody else! So please dont tel us dat some plyerz cant do it intentionally! History of Mzansi futbol madala!

aubrey: 2009-10-06 09:27

heeeee he replaced a destributor with a winger.Ijohhhhhh Santana weeeeee

James: 2009-10-06 20:06

Taking nothing away from Cale. He deserves to be there ahead of any other leftwinger.

Haskins would have been the sensible replacement as a distributor!!!
The boy has skill, pace, can shoot with both left and right feet and most importantly!!!! he can score goals!
