A relieved Samson Siasia has backed his players to take full advantage of the second chance they have been given to push for the Fifa Under-20 World Cup trophy.

Siasia's posse endured a miserable first round campaign, losing to Venezuela and Spain before handing a 5-0 battering to Tahiti to sneak into the last 16.
 
Coach and players have faced a barrage of criticism, but as they go into Wednesday's showdown against Germany, Siasia has backed his wards to come good.
 
"If you watch these guys play against Spain, you will know that they know how to play but we needed a break to discover what the problem was and God has given us the needed break," he said.
 
"We need to utilize the chance this break has just given us. This is a miracle and things like this don't happen everyday.
 
"I have never been to any tournament where I worry my head over calculations of praying to make it to the next round through best third placed team or whatever. But I thank God that we have gotten another chance to correct our mistakes and to make our fans happy.
 
"Now that we have got this chance, I don't think we are ready to lose it. We will continue to work very hard to get to the final of this competition and strive to eventually win the trophy. It is not an insurmountable task, with hard work and luck on our side," Siasia assured. 
 
The Flying Eagles dominated possession in all three group games, but ended up scoring less goals than Venezuela and Spain. Siasia says he is confident that will change against Germany.
 
"I have often told them that keeping possession without scoring will not take us anywhere. We need to score goals. But now that the boys have managed to scale through to the next stage of the competition I am very sure that they will up their game and start scoring the goals."
 
Nigeria play Germany in Suez on Wednesday.

@Emeka, people like you don't even know the diameter of a standard football, little wonder you would pour out those vituperations of yours on Siasia.
No doubt, the team has been very blunt at the attack but do not lack in possession football. That is why barcelona is feared so much, i mean possession football. All these guys need now is to sharpen their attack so that their possession football would be complemented by goal scoring.
Siasia still remains the best local coach that we have and he has world-class capabilities.

For Emeka and his cohorts. Check the statistics of the two matches we play and tell me where the boys were playing kick and run football. Even if you dont like SIA1, you guys should learn how to critisize obejctively.

Many of you are praying that we will not qualify for second round though you claim to be Nigerians. We defeated Bulgaria in the opening match of USA 94 yet they went on to the Semi finals and the the Third place. Would you say that Nigeria will have a better rating than them?

What is the calamity that you want? 1987 was worse if you are too young to know. What then was the calamity? England has qualifyied for world cup yet the u21 under staurt peace could not muster a win (Peace is an assitant to Capello).

Giving the time, These boys are not total wash away and they showed xter much more than Super Eagles.

For those who prayed that Nigeria will not cross to second round, sorry for the dissapontment. I dont share in your grief.

Shame on all of u for ur comments and reactions to Emeka's comment. He is within his rights to feel the way he is feeling right now and to write it. That the flying Eagles qualified by the skin of their teeth is nothing to be proud of and that gives Emeka the impetus to vent his anger on the coach. I don't understand why it seems to be in our nature to allow double standards and favouritism be the order of the day yet we cry foul when our govt does the same. If any team performs as woefully as the Flying Eagles have, then the players and their coach (especially the coach) deserve some harsh words. Emeka, with all due respect, you lack the necessary ethics to write in any forum. you gave no ****ysis that led to your venomous conclussion. what made Siasia's record a fluke. a couach that in all his national assignement as a couach dating about 5 years has not lost up to 4 matches, a couch who has reach the finals of all the tournaments he has entered even if its a road side tournament involving international bodies, a number 15th best coach acording to FIFA rating. I have been following comments as it regards Siasia not even FE. The abuses of pple who critise Sisia get from others here. It suprises me because it is the same people that rain abuse on people that support SE. They see nothing good about the coach even wen he has not lost any match, but support the coach that lost 2 matches and qualified on as one of 4 best loosers. As it stands now, SE is not yet out but we have kiled the coach. If we are to have 4 best losers, truts SE will go to world cup if the ecant qualify direct.

this is a simple argument when it comes to those who dis Siasia.
the man has put us on the globe in soccer.
i mean he won silver last yr and is always in the finals in most competition he enters albiet junior level.
what has Amodu done? nothing.
let me put it this way, everytime he has made it to the finals, be it olympic or U-17, remember that there are "GREAT" football nations like England, Germany, Brasil, Spain, France,Italy, etc he beat to get there or those countries just never made it as far as Siasia did.
who has Amudo beaten, nobody.
amodu has our published players, siasia has unknown players and brings positive results. he is better.
i am a loyal fan but lets be realistic, we are not going to win every competition.
you dont hear great football power countries like Argentina cry for not qualifing, or france or portugal etc.
italy and some other coutries will be out too.

Its funny how we raise issues when we want to support our stand point. Though I dont like bringing religion or politics into football discussion (I am very much into the two directly or indirectly), but we atimes cloud straight issue because we have a side that we do not want to concede.

Let me state here that the basiC problem in Nigeria is truth where other problems hang. Are we truthful in the selcetion of leaders? Are leaders truthful in running the goverment? Are we truthful in organising free and faith elecetions?

These truth also flows to the issue at hand. Are we truthfully painting a picture of what we see in Nigeria football? They call some of us fanatics of Sia1 but I wonder who is Siasia that I wlll place HIM above my nation if not for his record that speaks.

I intentionally posted the statistics of two of our most difficult games and I dare haters of Sia1 to say that either FIFA.COM is lying or such statistics show a team that is lacking in all the department of the game.

Sia1 started coaching not too long ago and yet he has number of laurels in his kitty and the TRUTH Nigeria can tell is that AMODU in all is long years is better than Siasia. And we keep asking, what are your proofs? Answer - He has not lost any competitive games- its beats my imagination when i get such answers even in the prcarious situation it has placed our world cup hope. In the hand of a team that thier bunch of players could not defeat heartland or Kano pillars. Chei.

Agreed, the result in the two instances are not what we want but let us juxtapose;

Who handles professionals who should have more experience - Amodu/Super Eagles.

What team needs more technical instructions - Flying eagles cos of less experience.

Who plays like a team and has possession - FLYING EAGLES

Which of the two teams plays with hunger and good fighting spirit? - FLYING EAGLES of course.

The truth is nobody wants what is happening to Flying Eagles but the truth is that the team is not as bad as we want to portray. Infact it looks like a team that can improve seriously with luck on thier side.

HMMMMMMM. Let me ask, who is the best coach we have in Nigeria going by work rate and past successes? Please let answer truthfully ring in your heart.

It's good news Mikel Obi won't be playing, i wish him well as recovers, but his exclusion will be a blessing. He has never played well for the Super Eagles. Who said that Nigeria qualified through the back door? I guess we all now know the result of Spain-Italy match. In case you are still wondering, Italy beat Spain convincingly by 3 goals to 1. That in a nutshell tells us that we should encourage our flying eagles to put the results of their group stage behind them and focus on the task ahead. Beating Germany is very possible. Pls do not forget that Italy came 3rd in thier own group and have shown today that they are a team to beat in this tournament. Siasia and his boys can still do the same. SHUAIBU Amodu and his assistant, Dan Amokachi, have an issue to settle with the Super Eagles as the World Cup qualifier against Mozambique approaches.

Some players of the Super Eagles complained about the way the two coaches handle national assignment and do not take kindly to the insult the coaches passed on the players following the 2-2 draw against Tunisia last September 6.
Moreover, some of the players complained about invitations and selections made by the coaches.
‘’For me, the only sound coach we have in the national team is Fatai Amoo. He may be quiet but he knows his job, says one of the players.
Another says the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, should not just sit by and watch Amodu and Amokachi ruin the national team. ‘’ Amokachi is too arrogant, he made us to believe that he is the Chief and if he doesn’t like your face, you can’t play for Nigeria.’’
One of the team’s strikers explained that both Amodu and Amokachi appeared not to be interested in their assignments. ‘’They offer nothing at team’s meetings and passed no instructions that would have helped us against Tunisia. I got to read later in the papers about the coaches’ complaint about players’ lack of professionalism in the draw against Tunisia in Abuja. What professional input did they add to the team? They are not good coaches, they shouldn’t pass the buck to us.’’

Some people are not just fit to make comments in a public forum like this. Why refer to me as fool rather than tackling the issue. I would have loved to meet Mike1 personally. He is probably one of those that hang out in newspaper joints to argue about football every morning. Some of your data are not accurate. Like it was pointed out, Worgu will be far more than 20. Even Ekpo was in the U23 team. Until a player actually plays in a competition, you cannot say how well he will fare. Chrisantus has not justified his inclusion in the team with injury. He has to do more to be put in a team when there are other fit players. At least, he is not Ronaldo. Anyway, a better prepared team and a team touted to be the one to watch in this tournament is already out in Spain. Football is not mathematics. Do not condemn anyone, the team that has been so maligned can end up coming out on tops. The performance of the team has not really been bad so far, the players just have to put in a little more effort.

It is very simple, if ur defence is not so good concentrate on holding on to the ball and keep attacking ur opponents, Barca does not wait for the opposition to get to their own half b4 they contest for the ball, they harrass you into submission right from ur own half, it simply reduces pressure on their weak defence.
Frank and Emeka, learn to watch football properly and then you may learn to come out with constructive statements or criticisms.
