Ighalo promises 'different' F.Eagles

Posted: 2009-10-05 08:45

Nigeria Under-20 captain Odion Ighalo has promised a 'different' team when the Flying Eagles play Germany in their second round match on Wednesday.

Nigeria have had a campaign to forget, losing their opening two games to Venezuela and Spain before over-running Tahiti 5-0 and squeaking through to this stage as one of four best third placed teams.

Ighalo, one of the more highly-rated Nigerian players, has had a largely disappointing outing before sitting out the Tahiti win because of a suspension, but now he now says the Flying Eagles have learnt from their mistakes and would be a different team against Germany.

“In the match against Germany Nigerians would see a great Flying Eagles team. We have talked to each other and the technical crew led by chief coach Samson Siasia has told us our mistakes and we have learnt from this and I believe Nigerians would be happy at the end of our encounter with Germany on Wednesday,” Ighalo said before the squad's departure for Suez, venue of the second round match against Germany.

Nigeria dominated possession in all three group games, but only scored against weaklings Tahiti. Ighalo however said those problems had been sorted.

“We have overcome our scoring problem and by the special grace of God we strikers will score goals. But the most important thing is to play as a team and achieve victory at the end of the match."

I'm pretty upbeat about the potential achievement of this team in this tournament. I really don't care about the minds that have already been made up against this team. They've got all it takes to go all the way. I stand to differ on this: they will succeed!

shaun: 2009-10-05 09:56

I DONT BELIEVE IN ALL THESE TALKS B4 THE MATCH. JUST GO THERE... IF THEY CAN SURVIVE GERMANY,THEY HAVE TO MEET THE WINNER OF BRAZIL/URUGUAY. MANY OBSTACLES TO CROSS B4 YOU CAN BOAST OF WINNING A MEDAL. ANYWAY BEST OF LUCK.

Na' Awka

Calamity awaits

The foolish, pride, arrogant Siasia has lost it

Shame!

Hybreed: 2009-10-05 10:22

The reason why the FE miraculously made it to the round of 16 may not be far fetched from the fact that they have been 'destined' to go far and along the line, learn the hard way some 'goal-scoring' lessons.

Great names like (Germany,Brazil,Uruguay and the likes)do not win matches in modern day football, but tactical discipline and team spirit. Why did Argentina (the defending champion)failed to make it to Egypt if its all about names? If there is anything i know the FE have, its figthing spirit. The only problem was in the area of goal scoring which i think would be a thing of the past as we take on Germany, come wednesday.

I wish Siasia and the boys a smooth run to the finals. The germans were not so spectacular against cameroon, hence the FE of nigeria will give them a run for their 'visa' to egypt.

Lets go do it again boys,Up FE,up Nigeria!!!

Babatunde: 2009-10-05 10:24

@Brown I will second your opinion. They are no doubt a very good team with potentials, only the time duration of their preparation was not enough. Well let's hope that they can pick up from the experience they have had so far and start playing as a team.

Babatunde: 2009-10-05 10:34

@Adeshina. Another very good observation. I second that opinion too.

john: 2009-10-05 11:19

Niceguy: 2009-10-05 14:34

@Mike, Am behind you for tackling this idiot called emeka, infact one bottle of gulder for you my brother but that will be when I comes to Nigeria during Xmass.

Ayomide: 2009-10-05 15:00

Ighalo had said the true thing about the team. They need to talk to themselves especially in term of scoring goals, because out of all the five (5) goals they scored is only one (1) scored by the striker which is FATAI.

I wish them good luck.

Up Flying Eagles
Up Nigeria.

AzraEzra: 2009-10-05 15:39

Odion Ighalo has promised a "different team" does he mean new players coming from naija to come and play? or the same no idea players who play the first stage before other team favor them to the next stage? lets be realistic Odion, you dont know how to play the *****....you have to thank Taihit for not being good team and even with 9players you have no clue how to beat them good...like spain and venz. pls keep your mouth shout after the match then if have something to say you can say it...you are playing against germany and not taihit...who are by far better prepared and good when it come to playing...pls its germany you are going to play with even their women they are not easy on the pitch. i hope you dont get red against them..-

uzochi: 2009-10-05 16:49

this is a simple argument when it comes to those who dis Siasia.
the man has put us on the globe in soccer.
i mean he won silver last yr and is always in the finals in most competition he enters albiet junior level.
what has Amodu done? nothing.
let me put it this way, everytime he has made it to the finals, be it olympic or U-17, remember that there are "GREAT" football nations like England, Germany, Brasil, Spain, France,Italy, etc he beat to get there or those countries just never made it as far as Siasia did.
who has Amudo beaten, nobody.
amodu has our published players, siasia has unknown players and brings positive results. he is better.
i am a loyal fan but lets be realistic, we are not going to win every competition.
you dont hear great football power countries like Argentina cry for not qualifing, or france or portugal etc.
italy and some other coutries will be out too.
only one country will win it. its not ALWAYS going to be us. SORRY. thats is the HARD TRUTH. deal woth it. Siasia atleast qualifies for events and makes a run at it. always. Amudo doesnt.

Harrison: 2009-10-05 18:04

I cant understand why this forum has turned to Abusive forum, actually and pointing to Emeka and Frank who has supported all he said, i think the purpose of this forum is to share ideas of sports we love most and how we can through our upbuilding comments encourage the Government and those incharge of our football to do the right thing to make Nigeria the best in soccer, how can one come in this forum to rain abusive speech on the one and only Siasia who has brought smile, hope and succour to over 150 milion soccer living Nigerians, Siasia was giving this team few months ago when Bosso couldnt offer any hope, we also forget that NFF has as usual failed to act on his request as to early preparations coupled with some players who are head strong thinking they have arrived, who is to blame for Udoh not having his Visa ready? why should Nkume leave for trials abroad while others are perfecting strategies? is it Siasia who gave Chrisantius injury or do we expect him to go to tournament of this magnitude with injured players? is it a do or die affair that we should win all tournaments? Argentina did not come, will Tahitians commit suicide? at the end of the day only one team will win, am here in America, i know how detailed preparation American soccer team underwent yet win or loose they are wellcomed back home in fanfair and frenzy, when will we start telling ourselves truth, whoever thinks Siasia is not trying his best for Nigeria should go ahead and amputate his hands and legs. Enough of this Bickering in this forum, Hail u fellow forumites. Eke Harrison, California, USA.

uzochi: 2009-10-05 18:24

@HARISSON
my brother, you said it all. same thing i have always been saying. infact, if you read my comment which is right above yours, we said the same thing.
i too am here in dallas tx and i know exactly wat your talking about.
american athletes get the best equipment, the best food, drinks, team doctors, facilities.
heck, some High school soccer facilities are MUCH better than our national facilities. SAD.

Pookie: 2009-10-06 03:14

EMEKA, WHY ARE DO SPEAK ALWAYS AGAINST THE SUCCESS OF NIGERIA. YOU CALL HONORABLES, STATE HEROS AND OUR CELEBRITIES NAGATIVE NAMES. THIS IS NOT GOOD AND DOES NOT SHOW RESPECT NOR DOES IT ENCOURAGE ANYONE OF THEM INCLUDING THE PLAYERS. YOU CALL SIA 1 NAMES SO SOON, YOU ARE MADMAN OR THE MOST FOOLISH WHEREVER YOU ARE. U PRODUCT OF DISAPPOINTMENT IN THIS LIFE AND GENERATION! YOU ARE NOT A NIGERIAN OR U NEED TO TRACE YOUR ORIGIN...YOU ARE FROM NIGER MAYBE...

Kebiru Ariastotle: 2009-10-06 13:05

up Siasa, up Nigeria, i am happy right now that the Flying Eagle still have hope that they can go further in this cup.... sometimes i wonder why some people don't still understand this game according the comment they make. let be sincere imagine Italy beat Spain 3-1 yesterday... in football there is luck, preparation, commitment, determination, team work and history..
siasa is a good coach he has show himself more than once...
i still believe he can take Nigeria football to a greater height, lets accord respect to whom is due to...
i am not drawing any comparasion, he is a man that learn from his mistake.... The Flying eagles will have victory against Germany come Wenesday... up Flying Eagles up Great Nigeria Nation................

Kebiru Ariastotle: 2009-10-06 13:14

By the grace of Almighty Allah Nigeria will make it to Final of this Tunarment and eventually bring the Cup home let be optimistic and stop be pesimestic, those boys are good, they will surely improve on their scoring chances.......
you see Spain has 100% percent in the First round but now they are no where to be found..... that is the game of football for you... lets not crucify our Flying Eagles... will stil have alots of hope... we are going to be playing with our full squard against Germany. have a nice time my fellow forumites

Ebimobowei: 2009-10-06 14:00

@emeka, when a man is daft and has nothing to contribute he bcomes disruptive and you have confirmed this. u know nothing about football, and i must say dat there are quite a lot of people on this forum who have no business bn here. lets talk about strategy, tactical inputs of the coaches and the ability of players to translate their coaches instructions and stop using gutter language.

Bob : 2009-10-07 08:52

@Uzochi
Give me a break Does winning silver at U-20 and U-23 with OVERAGE PLAYERS make you a good coach ? Yes Amodu is inferrior becos at his level he does not need to use overage players in youth competitions to win silver [ Not even gold ] to feel good and impress anybody. Even with overage players, Siasia is losing... Does winning the African Youth Championship make Ghana's U-20 coach the best coach in Ghana ? Come on now, this is youth soccer we are talking about where all African coaches cheat. Siasia is not invisible..... If you doubt me, give the SE job to him and see the result ....

Bob : 2009-10-07 08:56

@ Ighalo,
please shut up and go out there and perform. Do you think the Germans are DUMP and bunch of DUMMIES ? You are promising something different, is it for the worse or better ... With this proud coach, i wonder, ..good luck

Ebimobowei: 2009-10-07 18:08

@Bob, please try and say something constructive. Now na d players u wan start to abuse, atleast they are humble and realistic enough not to point fingers at others for their performance so far.
Nobody wants the SE to fail but the attitude of certain players is what gets on my nerves. A holding midfielder loses the ball which leads to d opposition team scoring an equaliser which may stop us from going to the World Cup, and he has the guts to blame others for the team's poor performance. I support all Nigerian teams but we like Siasia because he has achieved and when you watch his teams play even when they lose you see a coach who really knows how to read matches and has versatility in his tactics. Please can you say d same for Amodu?

Ebimobowei: 2009-10-07 18:25

A TEAM THAT HAD MOST OF THEIR TRAINING PROGRAMS AND PRE-TOURNAMANT WARM UP GAMES DISAPPROVED IS EXPECTED TO GO AND START BEATING EVERYBODY SILLY, JUST BECAUSE SIASIA IS THE COACH. IT IS ABSOLUTELY WICKEDNESS TO CRITICISE SIASIA. IT IS LIKE GIVING A MAN A MACHETE TO FIGHT A MAN WITH AN AMOURED TANK AND WHEN HE LOSES WE TELL HIM HE IS A FAILURE. WE DON'T SEEM TO REALISE THAT HIS FAILURE IS OURS ALSO, BECAUSE WE KNOW THIS TEAM WAS ILL-PREPARED. SIASIA IN MY OWN OPINION DID NOT NEED THIS JOB HE HAD PROVED HIMSELF ENOUGH TO BECOME A NATIONAL TEAM COACH. NFF DID NOT WANT A COACH WHO WILL PICK HIS OWN CREW, WHO WILL BE INDEPENDENT-MINDED. SIASIA HAS ALWAYS BN RIGHT FROM HIS PLAYING DAYS A VERY FRANK AND FEARLESS PERSON BUT WE MUST GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR WHAT HE HAS ACHIEVED IN SO SHORT A TIME.IT IS NO FLUKE, 2 FINAL APPEARANCES IN THE SPACE OF 3YRS AND SOME IGNORANT CLOWN DARES TO SAY SIASIA'S PERFORMANCE IS A FLUKE? SOME PEOPLE NEED TO VISIT A PSYCHIATRIST.
