Chiefs compound Cosmos' woes

Kaizer Chiefs moved into the top half of the Premiership standings after a 2-1 win over Jomo Cosmos at Rand Stadium.

Amakhosi took the lead as early as the third minute through Nkosinathi Nhleko.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane made it 2-0 before 20 minutes had passed, before Cosmos pulled on back through Thapelo Tshilo just before the half-hour mark.

After squandering a number of chances during their midweek loss to Bloemfontein Celtic, Chiefs were quick to capitalise against Cosmos, and with the first half-chance that came their way the Amakhosi were in front.

Nhleko was brought down by Asando Mvalo and when Josta Dladla laid off the resulting free-kick to Abia Nale in the 18-yard area, his quick pass was collected by Nhleko who, with his back towards goal, turned two defenders before striking the ball past Avril Phali.

Chiefs doubled their lead shortly afterwards when Nale linked with Kaizer Motaung Jnr, who picked out Nhleko in the six-yard area. With two defenders trying to win the ball off him, Nhleko played it back to Letsholonyane, who connected with from the edge of the big box to beat Phali.

Letsholonyane went off injured soon after and Cosmos took advantage, with Tshilo heading home Bamuza Sono’s free-kick.

Nhleko missed a great chance on the half-hour mark, but Cosmos were better after the break. With 20 minutes remaining, Tshilo drove the ball hard from a free-kick, only to see it hit the crossbar.

That’s the way it finished, with Cosmos now fighting a familiar fight at the bottom of the League table.
