Lawal to lead Lobi Stars

Lawal to lead Lobi Stars

Posted: 2009-09-24 21:53

Former Nigeria international midfielder Garba Lawal has signed up with Nigerian Premier League club Lobi Stars as player/coach and could well make his debut against visiting Wikki Tourists on Sunday.

“Yes, I have joined Lobi. I had my first training [session] with the club yesterday [Wednesday],” 35-year-old tells Goal.com.

“It's really a pleasure to play alongside the younger players and try to bring part of my experience to bear on them. I have seen some good, young players, as well as some who have been with the team for some time, like Umar Zongo.”

Lawal featured for Lagos club Julius Berger before he moved to Tunisian club Esperance in 1995. He last played competitively two years ago in China.

Last season Lobi barely escaped relegation, but Lawal has insisted that won't be the case with the club this term. “We are not a team to struggle against relegation,” he said.

Lobi chief executive Dominic Iorfa confirmed the signing of the former Roda JC and Esperance star.

“He is here with us. He has trained with the team and will play a test match this week,” said Iorfa.

No one should be excited about Lawal come-back on this forum. All we are interested in is how to qualify Nigeria for SA 2010. With two matches to go, I dare say that Nigeria is still on course though many on this forum have written off the SE. Let me say again and you can write this down in your diary, in spite of the tragedy of Sept. 6, Nigeria will be in SA 2010 as long as SE can win their remaining two matches. But I have a worry. If Nigeria is not in SA 2010, it is not just because of the draw with Tunisia but droping another point again in the remaining matches. Let Nigerians support SE. If they win the remaining two matches, Tunisia will and must drop a point, either in Tunis or Maputo. And SE will be in SA 2010. Can anyone on this forum educate me on what happens if Nigeria and Tunisia eventually tie on points. Will the head-to-head rule apply this time around? My other worry. I pray it doesn't. If it doesn't, then this will be another ray of hope. SE will then have to score as many goals as possible in their remaining matches. Forumites, pls keep on praying and supporting SE. Forget about Amodu and the inept NFF for now.

Chindo is back! He could be the solution to our midfield nightmares!

This is very good. This will definitely help the quality of the league. You know we all should join hands to repair Nigeria from the bottom-up because top-bottom approach has failed. The top-bottom approach for example is why Nigeria IS NOT GOING TO QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP. Please no sentiments or prayers. I think we are insulting God's holiness by asking Him to take sides with a corrupt NFF and help Nigeria to qualify.

Biafra, I cant forget about SE being in SA 2010 as you suggested. My optimism is informed by divine revelation. Please provide information about my worry on head-to-head rule. Once this stipulates goal difference in the event of a tie on points, then SE will be in SA 2010

Lawal is broke, simple. He is just too old to be playing in a primitive league like the NPL. if he wants to contribute to the development of the league, he should take up a coaching role and leave the playing to the younger players. he should understand that if he breaks down on the pitch, there may not be qualified medics around to save him. Take note chindo

Blind patriots how refuse to face the truth, look nobody, I repeat, nobody on this forum is as optimistic as I am, but I will tell you guys the truth, there is no point in being fanatical about it, if Nigeria qualifies for the world cup at the expense of the well prepared Tunisian, then there is no such thing as the god of soccer.

Fellow, we do not deserve to ba at the wolrd cup, we are not prepared for it, if we make it there we will not learn, we will continue to do what we do.

Guys, failing to plan is planning to fail. We do not deserve to be there.

The word.: 2009-09-25 02:27

@Alhaji, what make you think you are the most patriotic on this forum? because others did not say much doesnt mean they are less patriotic.

Good move MR. Lawal, your years of experince will surely help out league.

@lankyboy. There is no point of praying for what God will not answer. It amount to trying God. It is better the so called SE does not even qualify for SA because they will go there to add salt on injury. The money budgeted to take these unpatriotic SE to SA should be use for these our striking teachers that we all knew will give us result. Let's learn how to stop waiting money on fools.

THIS IS FOR ALL THE MIKEL FANS... I DON'T WANT MIKEL TO PLAY FOR NIGER AGAIN.....
FLOPS OF THE SEASON (Minimum three starts)

Chelsea may be unbeaten at the top of the table but John Obi Mikel is clearly not the reason why as he takes his place in midfield.

A former Chelsea man, Tottenham's Carlo Cudicini, is the team's goalkeeper, and two misfiring former England internationals lead the front-line.

Flops of the Season (4-4-2)

GK: Carlo Cudicini (Tottenham) - 5.17

RB: Anthony Vanden Borre (Portsmouth) - 5.22

CB: Emerson Boyce (Wigan Atheltic) - 5.33

CB: Marc Wilson (Portsmouth) - 5.11

LB: Danny Collins (Stoke City) - 5.73

RM: Johan Elmander (Bolton) - 5.56

CM: John Obi Mikel (Chelsea) - 5.66

CM: Hayden Mullins (Portsmouth) - 5.50
