Flying Eagles fly out in style

Posted: 2009-09-18 10:10

Nigeria's Flying Eagles will leave for Egypt on Friday spotting designer suits, but not from the NFF.

Aurora, UK-based outfit sports management outfit is responsible for kitting out the squad.

"We wanted to do it so that our boys will go out there looking responsible and presenting a good image of the country," Adedapo Kujore-Olowu, a player manager and Aurora official said.

Olowu would not disclose the cost of each suit, but pointed out that it cost around GBP100 pounds to engrave the NFF logo on the jackets.

"It is not about the money for us, but about the image of the country. The NFF logos were engraved on the jackets and ties.

"This is a complete outfit, including shirts, ties and the suit itself," he said.

Olowu added that NFF vice-president Amanze Uchegbulam, who is currently with the team in Spain, has said the Glass House was impressed by the outfits and would look into the possibility of doing the same for other national teams.

i don't know why we can't learn from our past mistakes. What does the logo on a jacket got to do with our flying eagles?
We don't have to start spoiling them with money ....infact that is bad ....while we are still mourning the national embarrassment the super eagle gave us on the 6th of september.....
Well just pray that the flying eageles will wipe the memory out of our mind because i know it happened 5years ago when they fail to qualified for Germany 2006world cup ...that was the same day flying eagles played there last macth that gave them qualification to the knock out stage.
Go sia 1 we all are solidly behind you.

gerry: 2009-09-18 11:20

@tart, My understanding to this story is that the outfits were given for free to the Flying eagles.

So i don't think this is a money making avenue for the NFF but rather a business link with the Aurora business.

Dear Forumites, follow me read a caption from Brilafm.net, from Taiwo Odebunmi, a house committee member representing Nigeria Government on sports. He wrote….

“Taiwo Odebunmi says it is a blessing in disguise. Odebunmi opined in a chat with brilafm.net that, although Uche’s services will be missed in the Super Eagles, the injury might be an opportunity for the country to discover a potent replacement.

“Naturally, we are going to feel bad about it and we are going to feel sorry for the player, who has been committed to this cause.“We knew the boy is the highest goal-scorer in this qualification programme for Nigeria. But, like I said, God works in miraculous ways.

“It could be an opportunity we are looking for. Because, if the guy had been fit, it will be difficult for anybody to secure his position.“Maybe, this time around, it will be compulsory that he will not feature, God will now bring out messiahs and things will work fine. That’s my belief,” the south-west representative philosophized.”

@Dear forumites is this how to celebrate our stars, to be happy when they morn, to laugh at them during difficult times, our highest goal scorer during this qualifier is injured and we are happy. Oh God….. Remember his brother Uche Kalu is still playing for Super Eagles.

@ Hyginus, of a truth that comment from a respected member of the house of reps is disheartening. However, the honourable member is not happy with what the way Ike uche played on Sepember 6. Both Ike and Kalu let us down. They didn't show why they should remain in the Super Eagles. Tell who would not mourn, God forbid, if Osaze were the one injured! Sorry Ike Uche. We wish him luck and quick recovery but we would not miss him! He has been playing below standards in recent times

Olofinjana turns prayer warrior - For Nigeria to get 2010 W/Cup ticket
By Olawale Olaniyan - 18.09.2009
The Nigerian Tribune

Nigerian international, Seyi Olofinjana has turned prayer warrior after the September 6 2-2 draw the Super Eagles recorded with Tunisia at the National Stadium, Abuja, just as he said it would be a disaster if Nigeria failed to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa next year.

The Hull City of England midfielder said he has been having sleepless nights and hence resorted to praying for Nigeria to sail through to the 2010 World Cup.

“It would be disastrous if we don’t qualify for the 2010 World Cup because the same thing happened to Nigeria in 2006 when we lost the opportunity to be in Germany losing out to Angola at the last minute,” the former Kwara United player told Brilafm. “I’ve been taking my time praying for my country to qualify for South Africa. Not going to the World Cup will also affect us as players in our various clubs.”

Ebuka Bora: 2009-09-18 13:14

Please forumnites, I want to passionately plead with everyone to do me a great favour. The favour is simple - Do not comment on any negative comment posted by any fellow. Some of them are desparately seeking attention, and u always fall cheaply to it. One thing u should know is that we can not see the faces or hear the voices of any member of this forum. Some of them (very few)are small boys that under normal circumstance you won't let them near a football conversation involving mature minds. So this forum is the only oppurtunity they've to enjoy senior conversations. Plzzzzzzz, do me a favour - Ignore all negative comments henceforth. Thank you all and enjoy ur weekend/holidays.
Chukwuebuka Lawrence Uchendu is my name, aka Bora Militinovich.

OLUONYE: 2009-09-18 13:49

When other nations do these things they are seen as part of carrying the nations' images, not news. Whatever support now should be tactical and targeted at getting the cup, not unnecessary publicities. Nigeria has overgrown this type of news that present us as underlings before the developed nations.

TUNDE: 2009-09-18 15:34

Thanks, prof. But OLFINJANA should know that it is more disatrous for him to be in the national team than Nigeria losing to Tunisia. Let him pray that he's withdrawn from that team. He is only occupying space with his frame.

Uche: 2009-09-18 15:45

why they want to kit the boys, wetin kit fit do for them? they for use that kit money provide them with facilities for training or organize a friendly for them, do something that will improve their chances of doing well in the tournament. I don see that flying eagles as a continuation of super(chicken) eagles **** ups, that team is nothing close to under 20 or olympic team that Siasia took to the finals

mr: 2009-09-18 16:27

teams to support for the world cup.
1)Cote D'ivorie:they have good players and good coach and management. But their keeper suck.I will not support them.
2)Ghana the same as Cote D'ivorie,Ghana keeper suck i will not.
3)South Africa.they play good ball and also have good management but their don't good strikers who can score important goals.i will not support them.
4)Tunisia: well they play good team work but lack international experince.i will not support.
5)Cameroun: Yes they have every thing that need in the game of football. But they lack good coach.Well i will support them ooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Chairman: 2009-09-18 16:35

All of you criticizing, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO BETTER THE FLYING EAGLES??? We should all learn to READ and UNDERSTAND before opening our mouths. the Kit is being provided for FREE (meaning NFF did not pay for it, it is FREE, FREEEEE). Papa God will bless this Aurora company for giving something back to the country. They didnt have to do this but they did, and even if they're doing it to attract business from NFF, it is ok because they are doing it by marketing their product and not by bribing Lulu and the other cronies at the NFF...i am a strong believer in the saying "You look good, You feel good". we want these young men (U 20) to represent the country as professionals, so ofcourse we have to kit them like professionals are "kitted" in top european clubs. This might be the first time some of these boys have ever worn a suit and im 100% sure it will boost their morale and make them feel like professionals, this in turn will make them conduct themmselves as professionals on and off the pitch......Alot of ppl outside Africa still think Africa is one big COUNTRY (not a continent) they think we run around with lions and tigers and dont wear clothes or shoes. The only thing they see about Africa on the news is Genocide, Disease and Hunger...So siasia, May the good lord who plays soccer with the angels on his lunch break, bless you and your team, may he give you and your boys the discipline, skill and strenght to conquer and team that comes before you. AMEN.

Chairman: 2009-09-18 16:45

I guess some of you want them to travel with dunlop slippers, wear jerseys their mama sew for them and use bamboo sticks as shin guard.

mxm: 2009-09-18 16:51

mr as a south african I can hold my head high and say to u- WE DON'T NEED YOUR SUPPORT. There are 49million of us, m sure we can do it on our own.

presido: 2009-09-18 17:05

Hello Guys una well done, please let us pray that the guy will clear our tears of what we went through on 6th spt. Please who is this stilo? is like this guy is enemy of progress? make thunder bend that your mouth wey u take dey wish 9ja bad luck.Up Siasa up fly eagles, up 9ja, shame to stilo

claude: 2009-09-18 17:27

NFF.....why can't you stop that rubish attitude of yours. Are our boyz going to Egypt to play football or for fashion parade? I can't just understand. How do you want us to believe that stupid 4mat of urs? You guys have to remove that nonsense attitude and find another means of encouraging our boyz to do well and remove the shame which our so called chicken eagles have poured on themselves not me. Because others are coming to Egypt to play quality and active football not for fashion parade.

EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria Coach Shuaibu Amodu In Face-Off With Top Stars Over Team Selection
The under-fire coach may have further lost control of his dressing room after a showdown with his senior stars...
Sep 18, 2009 3:36:08 PM

Photo GalleryZoomNigeria Football Association
Related LinksEmbattled Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu may was approached by senior players regarding his team selection prior to the vital World Cup clash against Tunisia, Goal.com has learned.

A top source informed Goal.com that senior Super Eagles stars, led by skipper N****wo Kanu, met up with Amodu after he announced his starting XI for the clash against the Carthage Eagles in Abuja. The players wanted to complain about the complete omission of Portsmouth forward John Utaka from the squad.

The other senior players who met with Amodu at their Abuja hotel were assistant captain Joseph Yobo, Seyi Olofinjana and Utaka.

The players wanted Utaka picked for the Tunisia game because of his experience.

However, Goal.com further learned, Amodu took great exception to this demand.

"Amodu was furious with the players and warned them never ever to come forward with such a request because he alone is responsible for the team," a source informed Goal.com

"And you wouldn't believe it that during all this face-off, skipper Kanu hardly uttered a word, even though he agreed that they hold such a talk with the coach."

Officials are now worried that this showdown has further divided the dressing room.

Another source told Goal.com, "This shows that the players are not as irresponsible as some officials would want the world to believe. They really want to play at the World Cup next year.

"But they are more than disappointed that their coach would talk down on them, rather than try to explain the reasoning behind his team selection, among other things regarding the team."

This is one of many episodes that clearly shows that the Eagles dressing room is far from united.

Amodu appeared to have worsened the poor spirit in the camp by berating the players right in front of the sports minister and other top officials.

Meanwhile, some players are far from impressed with the preferential treatment the coach accords Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel.

I am a Nigerian but to be honest, there so many Nigerians without a good thinking of knowledge. it is sad to say but some Nigeria like Dumb people..So giving a suit to soccer player will spoil that player? do you what spoil a player? it is a lack of knowledge just like some of you on here. please learn how to be objective and subjective...

Doyin: 2009-09-18 19:28

Personally,I have always believed that Mikel is always in the first eleven cuz he plays 4 Chelsea and Olofin...(ogunjobi`s quota).!.I wonder what happens to Ayila..,to me he seems to be the most productive defensive midfielder we have.Only God knows what kinda brain Amodu has.

coache: 2009-09-18 22:19

Countdown to 2010: WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG.
We are enjoined in the bible not to remove the ancient landmark. But sometimes this year, Lulu and his hoods let me call them Luluhoods for short, decided that since the fans no longer come to watch the SE on Saturdays(albeit South Africa, E. Guinea, S. Leone as opponents), the best thing to do is to henceforth change the teams gameday from the ancient saturday 4:00pm to Sunday 5:00pm. I raised an alarm of the possible repercussions before FIFA approved the change. If fans do not come to Abuja stadium, why did luluhoods not move the matches to Lagos rather than moving the ancient landmark. Matches could still be played seldomly on Sunday if need be but not removing the ancient landmark of Saturday. Most of the SE players are Christians, some use the opportunity to play in Nigeria to visit ailing members of their family after Saturday games on Sunday before returning back to base. Even when the SE sojourned to PortHarcourt enroute Korea/Japan, the national day of football was not moved. Why Luluhoods??????

Secondly, after a not-too-stellar(boju boju)-performance at the end of the first round of matches in the qualifiers, Amokachi was interviewed on Supersport TV. He said the secret of their first round 6/6 performance was due largely to the fact that they allowed offensive minded players to move forward as against Berti Vogts regimental style. You do not discuss your team tactics and player movements on the pitch to journalists let alone on TV. He even mentioned Taye Taiwo in that interview, and then Tunisia.....

Moreover, the SE qualification was not helped by the siddon look Onigbinde styled Coach (old school coach) that turned down friendly matches and only stood up to celebrate goals scored by his players(Any difference from a spectator? Judge for yourself). Even when England were leading by 4-1 last week against Croatia, Capello stood dishing out instructions until the final whistle. OVERSKILL DON KILL MONKEY OOOO. A team's style of play is a reflection of the mind of the Coach. Please, help me ask him if there was a delibrate effort to teach the players how to win the ball back after loosing it. Movements without the ball etc. Coaching is no more for olodo's, we need the most astute of coaches to bring out the best in our players.

Lastly, in the Nigerian league, players do not talk on the pitch and that is affecting the national teams. NFF, let players communicate to themselves on the pitch in our league, we are tired of this achaic, strategies and all I am saying, MOVE BACK PLAYING DAY OF SE MATCHES TO SATURDAY OR ELSE....

I come here to read the reactions of Nigerians to soccer events and i greatly enjoy the back and forth but never comment. I am commenting because I am appalled that Kickoff did not find it worthy to write about Sone Aluko's fight with his club to represent Nigeria in Egypt. This is a great display of patriotism. I have not seen anything like it by a Nigerian in recent times. His club refused for him to join his team mates and he left without Aberdeen’s permission risking his career to serve his country. Eventually the club gave in today to his wish but i am appalled that for the last four days all of this was developing, Kickoff Nigeria did not find this story worthy of reporting yet it was reported daily on BBC, Goal.com and ESPN.

kenten: 2009-09-19 10:17

@Jay & Doyin, thanks for the posting. Under normal circumstances players do not have the right to insist on who should be selected by the coach. This is an act of insubordination and shows lack of respect for the coach. This only confirms that these players have no regard for the coach and his technical capabilities - Amodu has lost the dressing room and should quit promptly.I however have a word or two for the so called 'senior players'- with exception of Kanu the rest (Yobo, Olofinjana, Utaka) have no business being in the SE. You guys inspire unproductivity and mediocrity on the younger players in the team. I won't be surprised if there is division in the team as these unproductive elements call the shots in the team at the expense of more efficient players some of whom have been exiled from the team.

kenten: 2009-09-19 10:27

@Adebola, I agree completely with you - Sone Aluko is now a model for every young Nigerian. Despite his privileged antecedence, he is doggedly committed to play for his father land against all odds. This should shame some of the puffy, recalcitrant empty vessels who would want to be begged to play for the country.I pray he will eventually be released by his club-side - the whole episode is already giving him positive popularity in the international media.

coache: 2009-09-19 13:04
