Enugu Rangers have replaced former Nigeria coach Christain Chukwu with Alphonsus Dike, who until recently was in charge of the country’s Under-17 team.
Dike has been given a two-year contract by Rangers and was picked ahead of several other top coaches, including former international David Adiele and David Egbiri.
Dike has previously worked with Heartland of Owerri. He was sacked as coach of Nigeria’s Under-17s when he failed to qualify them for the 2009 African Junior Championship in Algeria.
Before now Chukwu insisted that he was still Rangers’ top coach, despite an announcement by club management that he had been fired for poor performance. Thereafter, the club advertised in national newspapers for a head coach.
Last season, Rangers finished sixth in the 20-team Nigerian Premier League, missing out on a chance to play international football next year.
