I don’t care about Germany – Khenyeza

Posted: 2009-09-05 09:26

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Mabhuti Khenyeza, who has been called up for the national team for the first time since he was dropped on the eve of the Confederations Cup, says he is not worried about the Germans ahead of the friendly international at the Bay Arena tonight.

In Bafana’s last training session, Khenyeza looked sharp alongside his clubmate Katlego Mphela.

“I don’t care about the Germans because my focus is on Bafana and my teammates,” he says. “Germany is Germany and South Africa is South Africa. It doesn’t really matter to as to which level they are playing at, I’m not worried about them at all.”

Bafana Bafana coach Joel Santana is likely to start with Mphela and Bernard Parker up-front, with Khenyeza set to come in as substitute later in the match.

When Khenyeza was dropped before the Confederations Cup for arriving late in the camp, there was a public outcry. But now the striker tells KickOff.com he is ready to fight for his place.

“Coming back to Bafana is a great feeling and I appreciate that the coach has decided to give me another opportunity. In return I just want to deliver. Honestly, I didn‘t expect the call-up, but you know, as a player you need to be ready all the time whenever you are called. So I was ready and now I’m prepared to deliver.”

With the 2010 World Cup around the corner, a place in Bafana’s attack is still up for grabs and Khenyeza is prepared to battle it out to get a nod.

“I will try by all means to get another opportunity to represent myself and then I will take it from there,” he adds.
