Zambia players denied UK visas

Zambia’s South African-based contingent might miss their country’s international assignment in London on Wednesday because they do not have visas to travel to Britain.
The five players were unable to get visas on Monday because it was a public holiday and the British High Commission was closed.
Football Association of Zambia communications officer Erick Mwanza insisted the players’ visas would be issued on Tuesday and the players would then fly to fly out to London.
Zambia play Ghana in a friendly international at Leyton Orient’s ground on Wednesday. The five would arrive on the morning of the match having had to endure an overnight flight, not the most ideal preparation for a friendly.
It also begs the question as to why Zambian officials have left the procuring of visas to the last minute, displaying an inefficiency which was not questioned by Zambian reporters on Monday. The fixture was organised some time ago and the squad named some 10 days ago.
The five are the goalkeeping duo of Kennedy Mweene and Kalililo Kakonje of Free State Stars and AmaZulu; defender Joseph Musonda of Lamontville Golden Arrows; midfielder Noah Chivuta from Maritzburg United and Felix Katongo who has signed with Mamelodi Sundowns.
