Former Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu has been fired by Rangers.

The club's management met on Wednesday and took the decision to fire the ex-Green Eagles captain for “failing to deliver last season”.

What has happened to loyalty and respect? Pity for Chukwu. He has endured many "sacks" and may be he can join politics...the easiest way to criminality and riches. I think it is time to go from football.

collins: 2009-08-05 19:57

a coach just graded by nff.

muhammed: 2009-08-05 19:58

this guy is always lucky to be sacked its time to quit from football and something else.

muhammed: 2009-08-05 19:59

Steve o: 2009-08-05 20:45

A failure always remain a failure in whatever he/she does,Christain chukwu beliv it or not u ar a failure and a disgrace to this nation, maybe u can go into farming.

kenten: 2009-08-05 21:08

The Rangers management should show some respect .... A coach in NFF's so called 'Elder' Coaching cartegorization. In a few years time he will take over from Onigbinde as 'Chief Examiner' and 'Head of Patrons' Nigerian coaching cartegory. The NFF will continue to ridicule itself as long as it intends to relegate excellence and merit to the background.

joe: 2009-08-05 21:58

@stephen...ur reference of farming maybe as the last in ladder of occupation shows ur level of civilisation, calling others a failure just because u have not been able to achieve what others have achieved is nothing but an act of inbuilt jealousy, ur inability to show a bit of a respect to a senior stateman exposes only but your upbringing and level of education...u are a shame to this site and i believe nobody here will want to emulate you...If u dont know who chairman chukwu is, he is the first and among the only two nigerians to lift the nations cup for us, he is near to perfect as a footballer, he has used his talent to the good of our nation...he has coached our nationall team, he did not lead rangers to relagation, and if you dont know, rangers is a state team that does not spend extravangantly to get the best players in the country, finishing sixth with the players at his disposition is not failure, but inability to create something from nothing.Lastly not all great footballers do transform to great coaches if you know anything about football, His main gift is that of a footballer and he has fully used it to the good of all so HE IS A GREAT SUCCESS

odiichelsea : 2009-08-05 22:10

he may be one of the best defenders during his playing days because back pass can be given to the goal keeper at that time; but in terms of coaching, he should not be considered. one of the problems of the super eagles today is because he did not make any input or discover a single player to the team. maybe his best is yet to come in luxury bus during as an Enugu man...hahaha

joe: 2009-08-05 22:19

@odiichelsea , and why was your dad not the best defender at the sametime since he is of the same age as chukwu, and you why are you not the best striker now that the work of defenders have become more complicated...i m sure you are better than no bus driver and the last Enugu man is surely better than the whole of your generation... huhuhu

odiichelsea : 2009-08-05 22:24

i think that chukwu knows that ekene diri chukwu is looking for a new enugu bus driver. he should apply now or regret later. Rangers have sacked him two times and even jimeta fc will not allow him to drag them to amatuer league. pls apply now

CHUKWUS PEDIGREE IS NOT IN DOUBT As a player, he became the captain of Rangers INTERNATIONAL AND THE CAPTAIN OF THE GREEN EAGLES IN THE LATE 70s. He was the first Nigerian captain to lift the African Nations Cup trophy after a 3-0 victory over Algeria in the final of the 1980 tournament.

His coaching career BEGAN in Lebanon in the mid 1990s, before being appointed coach of the Kenya national team in 1998. Later, from 2003 to 2005, he coached THE SUPER EAGLES, leading US to THE semifinals OF the 2004 African Cup of Nations. During the 2006 World Cup qualification phase, HE was blamed for inept coaching and management of the SUPER EAGLES, and two matches before the qualifying campaign was over, he was suspended. In two matches – home and away – against eventual group winners Angola, THE SUPER EAGLES failed to win either one of those two encounters. This was blamed on Chukwu and those two crucial failures eventually led to Nigeria failing to qualify for the World Cup, after having appeared at all World Cup finals tournaments since OUR debut in 1994. THATS AS FAR AS HIS STATS GOES, HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS ONE OF THE MOST FORMIDABLE DEFENDERS NIGERIA EVER HAD,AND INDEED ONE OF THE EX- NIGERIAN FOOTBALLERS WHO TRIED THEIR HANDS IN COACHING. HE CERTAINLY CANNOT BE DESCRIBED AS A FAILED COACH, HE GAVE HIS ALL AND THAT IS WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A MAN WHO HAS A PASSION FOR HIS JOB. ENUGU RANGERS ARE CERTAINLY LOOKING AT REKINDLING THE OLD DAY AND COACH CHUKWU DOES NOT FIGURE IN THAT PLAN. I WISH HIM THE BEST.... OUR CHAIRMAN.

Chukwu coached Enugu Rangers to 6th place in the 2008-2009 edition of the Nigeria Premier League. However he was sacked on August 5th, 2009 for failing to reach the club's targets for the season.

Steve o: 2009-08-06 00:27

@joe"he is near to perfect as a footballer" so u know he was not perfect, that shows a point of being a failure, sacked as a coach 4 not less than 4 occasions,is that a gud record to be proven? He was a super eagles coach not bcox of his competent but bcox some big names in the nfa were looking4 a rubber stamp to use to achieve their selfish interest,if u can tell urself the truth,is he the best among the coaches that applied? Is high time u advice the old man to go back to his village to recieve an OZO title, then i will regard him as ur chairman chukwu.

Stan: 2009-08-06 03:47

Joe, you have nothing to apologize for. You said the right things. Humble of you though.

Stephen, I don’t know where you went to school, but your reasoning is illiterate-like; and you have really embarrassed yourself here. To say someone is a failure because they are not perfect is of the lowest intellect imaginable. Man that’s sad.
Besides you, who else have you ever heard is perfect in the history of the world? Isn’t God the only perfect being? You need to go back to school for another 10-15 years- even if you’ve been before.

Uzoh: 2009-08-06 10:22

Uzo (Dublin).I'm a die hard Rangers fan till this day.Chukwu was not responsibly for Eagles failure to participant in 2006 World Cup,but some players like Okocha,Obafemi, etc, who choices matches to play.In Rwanda and Angola away,Chukwu had less than 16 players for those two matches and the only key players in those matches were Kanu and Yobo, while the captain of the team Okocha and other key players were absent.

On my dear Rangers, the last trohpy Rangers won,the FA cup in 1983,was won by Chukwu coached Rangers.Rangers won the match against DIC Bess of Kaduna, coached by late Udemezie, via penalty shoot out.Ayo Ogunlano lost the shoot out that won the cup for Rangers;late Patrick Okalla caught his penalty. So Chukwu was the assistant to Westerhof in 1994 Nations Cup,assistant to Brodick in eaglet of 1985,etc.So Chukwu as a coach is a very big sucess.

igilikpe: 2009-08-06 14:52

When clubs all over the world are bracing up for the new season by playing friendly matches to get them in proper shape, Nigerian clubs and their petty managers are busying sacking coaches and pretending to be searching for new ones. WHEN WILL OUR LEAGUE GO BEYOND THE LEVEL OF MEDIOCRITY?

Andy : 2009-08-06 15:05

Christian Chukwu it is time to quit active participation in any thing football in Nigerian. You are always getting rash decisions by those who call themselves sports administrator, but cannot even play football or understand the rudiments. You still remain the chairman of Nigerian Green Eagles.

elzo: 2009-08-06 17:44

am i surprised at the criticisms fired at chukwu on this forum? no! it is easy to pull a trigger than to load a gun with cartridges. so chukwu was also the guilty party for the delayed match bonuses and unpaid salaries of rangers players last season, eh? so chukwu was also responsible for the failure of the team to meet his demands for improved player welfare and pre-season matches to test his the strength of his squad. friends, coaching is not all about results. psychology is a big part of productivity when it comes to athletes' or players' performance. those rangers players have suffered terribly in more ways that are beyond chukwu's help. what you put into a team is what you will get at the end. chukwu was just a coach, not a team manager, psyhcologist or president. it is a shame that some of our football administrators are still swimming in the waters of mediocrity when it comes to football management. let me go beyond chukwu for a good example. how many times has the french national team lost to nations considered minnows ? was raymond domenech fired? the same goes for south africa. they had been losing under santana until they put up a good show at the recently completed confederation tournament in their country. continuity is our bane in nigerian football. and until we learn from the mistakes of the past, it will continue to hunt us and expose the ignorance of our football administrators and team owners. chukwu, as far as i know, remains a legend in nigerian football. he'll rise again in the pecking order of coaching. to every thing in life there's a season. this is his season to experience the sad story of coaching.

Orkula: 2009-08-06 19:45

Leave Chukwu alone, he is being crucified for an offence committed by his employers who refused to give him wreapons to work by not making funds available for the signing of plaers and their allowances.
Football globally is money spining, and only those ready to spend will get favourable results.
The era of players drinking garri and sugar to plsay for clubs is gone.
You are all witnesses and even celebrated the fees piad on Cristiano Ronaldo, Adebayor and others, and the sane should be done here.

David : 2009-08-06 20:53

Enough of Chukwu's humilation in the hands of inept football administrators. Chukwu may not be a fantastic coach and he has never pretended to be one but he deserves more respect from these political skunks. They should find a good reason to give for sacking Chukwu. How can they accuse chukwu of failure to deliver when they refused to impregnate him. For a woman to deliver, the husband must have the ability to impregnate her. It is a case of a fool who sacks his messenger for failing to bring him water in a basket that was given to him by the master. I advise Chukwu to forget about Nigerian football. If he wants to coach, let him set up a small football academy in his backyard so as to keep himself busy. I learnt he owns a transport company that can feed him for the rest of his life. It is more gratifying to be the CEO of ones company than to earn the title of the most sacked coach in the land.
