Enyimba complicate CAF wrangle

Enyimba complicate CAF wrangle

Posted: 2009-07-28 07:24

Federation Cup champions Enyimba on Monday wrote to the NFF asking to be entered into next season's CAF Confederations Cup as League third place finishers.

The decision by Enyimba, following a board meeting last week, will be sure to embarrass the NFF, who stirred nationwide controversy by handing the slot to Warri Wolves ahead of Federation Cup runners-up Sharks.

Wolves finished fourth in the League.

Enyimba Media Officer Tonnex Chukwu was however quick to point out that the decision should not be seen in that light, "We are not trying to embarrass the NFF," he told KickOffNigeria.com.

"The situation is that the Enyimba board believes that we should be able to determine which route is best for us to enter the competition, and they decided to choose the League," Chukwu said.

Very good! Enyimba. Lets see what nff will do now. I blv with this decision by enyimba, sharks will take the 2nd slot. NFF are handled by incapable hands. We need ex players to handle our football house

maark: 2009-07-28 08:10

Pls enyimba pls keep embarrassing the nff. We are delighted. Nff needs to be embarrassed bcos they called for it without disgracing them, they wont do their job effectively.

fASH: 2009-07-28 09:38

This is really a move from Enyimba & yet another show of incompetent leadership from NFF which is what Nigeria is all about right now.

Hopefully, NFF will concede & return ghana-must-go bags they received.

What a pathetic situation.

ese : 2009-07-28 09:44

which of these two clubs- warri wolves and sharks fc will be a better representative for nigerian in the CAF confederation cup. PLEASE BE OBJECTIVE.

Emmy: 2009-07-28 10:46

I would like to commend Enyimba for this bold move it took. It is unfortunate that NFF could hastily rush to select Warri Wolves for the second CAF cup slot without consulting Enyimba. It was very clear that something was wrong in the way NFF selected Warri Wolves which send danger signal for other teams in the league. This very decison by Enyimba would put to rest who and who should represent Nigeria in the CAF cup. Up Enyimba and Sharks and down to NFF and Warri Wolves.

There is actually no complication in the NFF decision. It is FINAL.

NFF has the sole responsibility of registering clubs with CAF competitions.

ENYIMBA in reality have no say in this matter because it is not really complicated.

ENYIMBA could have had a point if the 2 qualification spots it won was for 2 different competitions but in this case it is for only CAF Confederation Cup so it will have to qualify as Cup winner which is the 1st "tie-breaker".

Anyansi & Green may just think it is payback time for the "stakeholders" who now dominate the NFF board.

Emmy u spoke well. I love the word 'hastily' u used. Nff rushed, moved without precaution, manoeuvred without looking forward & they accepted ghana must go without knowing the consequence and not carrying enyimba along. Who even told nff that enyimba wanted to go continental with the FA cup success. Its only coward that leap without checking for obstacles.Folem u're wrong the nff decision is not final wait till shark tender their case to Court of Arbitration for Sport(CAS) then u can conclude. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Once again I say thanks to Enyimba management for exposing the ineptitude of the nff

muhammed: 2009-07-28 12:56

i think nff will give sharks the ticket by now.

nelson: 2009-07-28 13:07

2nd drama?

The word.: 2009-07-28 13:33

halleluya!, the truth is coming out small by small. those crooks that cannot control thier family that are now in the position to control only one thing that gave "140 million people happiness".how i wish i can see the faces of those people that make that decision, they will pee to their pants now.

thank you enyimba for the embarrassment.

the time of "sido and look" is over. 140 million people cannot be fool.

Kelechi: 2009-07-28 14:58

Enyimba FC of Aba is not only a confused team, but an embarrassment to Nigerian football. They can as well relinquish their Confederation Cup Trohpy to Sharks FC of Portharcourt.

danarchy -is- back: 2009-07-28 15:03

PLS CORRECT ME IF AM WRONG.. DOES THE CONSTITUTION ALLOW ENYIMBA TO DECIDE THEIR ROUTE TO THE COMPETITION... IF NO THEN A PLAY OFF WILL SOLVE THIS DILEMA... ELSE THE TIME THE TEAM IS SUPPOSED TO CONCENTRATE ON PREPARING FOR THE COMPETITION WILL WILL SPENT ON IRRELEVANT CONFRONTATIONS THUS MAKING THE ACTUAL TOURNAMENT REPRESENTATIVE A FLOB IN THE COMPETITION..

wale: 2009-07-28 15:41

Eyimba board are a bunch of jokers. whoever told them they can decide which competition to go. it is strictly NFF decision and it stays as so. its like having bayelsa utd say they dont want champions league but confed cup. eyimba must learn to follow guidelines.
and to those who jump to write comments, i will like you to think twice and not make a dummy of yourself. confed cup is for FA cup winners. that is the rule.

cantona: 2009-07-28 16:48

we all accused the nff of taking ghana must go in awarding the ticket to warra wolves, now is it not possible that enyimba have also take ghana must go bags from sharks and are trying to help them through the back door

ese : 2009-07-28 17:08

please nigerians answer my simple question. between sharks fc and warri wolves . which of the two teams will be better representative for nigeria in the CAF confederation cup. be objective

Nigerian Gunner: 2009-07-28 20:48

cantona, that's the most brilliant comment i've seen so far.

What the hell is Enyimba thinking. They've qualified for the caf cup already, it shouldn't matter to them what route they're gonna use to enter the competition (unless there's an advantage for Enyimba in qualifying as 3rd in the league instead of as FA cup winners. if they'll have to play fewer preliminary rounds or something, then i'll understand what they're doing). But right now, it looks like they're trying to help sharks. I don't follow the nigerian league, but this is ridiculous.

Eberechi P.: 2009-07-29 00:25

The Elephants of Igboland (Enyimba) have made a point clear. And that is the fact that they played the finals of the FA cup to win the laurel and not to represent Nigeria in next year competition because by virtue of coming in third place in the Nigerian league, they knew the are guaranteed a place in the African Champions league. What they have done now is to give JUSTICE a place in Nigeria even IF others think otherwise. Sharks should therefore by merit take Enyimba's place for the confederations cup, PERIOD. Thank you Enyimba for showing Nigerians that there is still justice and Equity in the country.

u r right in a way in ur assesment that its the responsibility of the nff to register the team to represent Naija and their decision is final. but on this one they have made a big mistake and unless they revise their decision there will be a great consequence for it.

Eberechi. P == spot on there mate
