The Peoples Elephants are one point clear of Pillars going into Wednesday's big season finale, and a result against the northern aristocrats will hand them their sixth domestic title, level with Rangers and one ahead of Shooting Stars.
But their two CAF Champions League triumphs will give them the edge over the Flying Antelopes.
It will be the first time in recent memory that the two clubs in direct contention for the title go head to head, but Enyimba have more at stake than just any title win and their players are well aware, according to Media Officer Tonnex Chukwu.
"The players are very aware of what they are about to achieve, and we are all feeling it," he told KickOffNigeria.com. "It is not every day that a team stands on the doorstep of history."
But he insists that there is calm within the dressing room.
"They are all very relaxed, like for any normal League match. Of course this is not any normal league game, but our approach and our preparations have not changed.
"It is still the same way we prepare for any game that we have prepared for this one and the players know that they have something important in front of them."
Pillars are on the hunt for only their second title, the first having come only in 2008, but Media Officer Malikawa Idris is confident they can derail Enyimba's history-chasing ambitions.
"They are not better than us, and it doesnt matter whether they are playing at home or not. I dont see us losing in Aba," he said.
On Tuesday, the Enyimba players were paid the remainder of their sign-on fees, a key motivation for players in the Nigerian league and Chukwu says losing is not an option.
"We know we only need a draw to win the title, but we are not playing for a draw. Enyimba have never lost a championship match in Aba, and we are not about to start now."
The game kicks off at 16h00 Nigerian time and will be live on SuperSport 9 Channel 209. |
