Austin Eguavoen future tied to Lars Lagerback
Austin Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi and Alloy Agu will all be fired along with Lars Lagerback if and when the Swede fails to meet his targets and is asked to go.

NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi told KickOffNigeria.com that the three indigenous coaches had been told in no uncertain terms that it was in their own best interests to ensure that Lagerback got every support he needed to succeed.

"We had a meeting with them where we made it very clear that if Lagerback is fired today, they will not automatically take over. They will be fired too," Lulu said.

"So it will be in their own best interests to so everything they can to make sure that he succeeds, because as long as he is there, they will be there too. If he goes, they go."

Lulu explained that although the federation had every confidence in the Nigerian trio, there was the need to put the fail-safe option in place as a precaution.

"Of course we know that they are patriotic Nigerians who will not do anything to undermine their country. But it is important for us to let them know that Lagerback's success will be their success, and his failure will be their failure."

He added that that was the reason why Eguavoen was also fired when his former boss Berti Vogts was let go.

"We wanted to keep him and Ike Shorunmu, but we needed to make everyone understand that the coaching crew are a team, and the failure of one is the failure of all. So they had to go."

Reports say Eguavoen has been offered a contract similar to what former coach Shuaibu Amodu currently has, while Amokachi and Alloy Agu stay on their current deals of N1.5 and N1 million respectively.
