Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has explained why Thamsanqa Sangweni did not sign for the club after spending almost two weeks on trial.

The former Orlando Pirates player has been dealing with off-field issues that have had a big impact on his career. He was released by Chippa United in January.

"We spoke with the coach [Eric Tinkler] and he explained to me he [Sangweni] doesn't fit into his plans going forward," Kadodia revealed.

"He's a very talented player but unfortunately we can't accommodate him."

The Team of Choice chairman also revealed the club has parted ways with Belgian striker Andrea Fileccia and three other players as they look to trim the squad.

"We've parted ways with Fileccia and other players I can't mention because we are still negotiating with them. We are not a club that just fires players," he added.

There has also been talk about the club rewarding players if they survive relegation.

"We are not gonna discuss that with the media," said Kadodia. "We need to survive relegation, it's not a secret."
